Blink Mini 2 is a plug-in indoor security camera with up to 1080p video, motion alerts, two-way audio, infrared night vision, and a built-in spotlight for color night view. It can also be used outdoors, but only with Blink’s separately sold Weather Resistant Power Adapter for the stated IP65 protection. Basic camera operation does not require a subscription or Sync Module 2; cloud storage and Person Detection do.
What the Blink Mini 2 does
Mini 2 is continuously powered through USB-C rather than a battery. It connects directly to 2.4 GHz 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and normally works without a Sync Module. The camera provides live viewing, motion detection, recording options, infrared night vision, a spotlight-assisted color night view, and two-way audio.
Blink lists H.264 video at up to 1920 × 1080 pixels and up to 30 frames per second. The lens has a 143° diagonal field of view (115° horizontal and 59° vertical), fixed focus from 3 feet to infinity, and an approximately 20-foot motion-detection range. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent test measurements.

Power and placement requirements
Indoor installation
Place the included stand on a shelf or mount it with the supplied screws, then run the USB-C cable to an indoor outlet. Because the camera is not battery-powered, choose a position with dependable power and enough cable reach.

Outdoor installation
Blink’s IP65 weather-resistance rating applies when Mini 2 is paired with the Blink Weather Resistant Power Adapter. That adapter is sold separately; the indoor adapter included with the camera is not the outdoor-weather solution.
Why windows are a poor substitute
Blink cautions that Mini 2 was not designed to operate correctly through glass. A window can interfere with motion detection and degrade nighttime image quality through reflections. The setup guidance describes disabling the recording and infrared LEDs to reduce reflections when testing such a position, but still characterizes window placement as less accurate.
Storage, subscriptions, and live view
You have two documented storage routes. Cloud storage uses an optional Blink Subscription Plan. Local storage uses a Sync Module 2. The Sync Module is not required for ordinary camera operation, but it is the accessory Blink documents for local recording.

Detection and privacy controls
Motion and person detection
Standard motion detection is part of the camera’s core functionality. Person Detection uses embedded computer vision and requires an optional Blink subscription, so it is not equivalent to ordinary motion alerts.

Privacy Zones
Mini 2 supports up to two Privacy Zones. Draw these areas in the Blink app to mask selected portions of the image from recording. Privacy Zones are different from Activity Zones: Activity Zones influence where motion is analyzed, while Privacy Zones prevent the selected area from being recorded.

Where Mini 2 fits best
- Good fit: rooms, entryways, nurseries, apartments, and other locations with a nearby outlet where 1080p monitoring and a wide view are sufficient.
- Consider another setup: locations without continuous power, because Mini 2 is not a battery camera.
- For outdoor coverage: budget for the separate Weather Resistant Power Adapter and install within the camera’s stated temperature range.
- For local storage: add a Sync Module 2 and plan the installation around that hardware.
- For person-specific alerts or longer live sessions: include the applicable Blink subscription in the ownership decision.
Security and support lifespan
Blink states that Mini 2 receives guaranteed software security updates until at least four years after the device is last available for purchase as a new unit on Blink’s websites. The four-year period is tied to that end-of-sale date, not necessarily to the date you buy an individual camera.
Bottom line for buyers
Blink Mini 2 is a sensible compact camera when you have continuous power and want a broad indoor view with straightforward app setup. The important trade-offs are storage and advanced features: choose a Blink plan for cloud storage and Person Detection, or a Sync Module 2 for local storage. Outdoor use is conditional on the separate weather-resistant adapter, and a window-facing installation should not be treated as equivalent to a clear indoor view.
