Amazon’s current U.S. guidance says non-Prime customers can receive free delivery when an order totals at least $35, provided the items qualify and are fulfilled and shipped by Amazon. Amazon estimates five to eight days for this delivery, so it is not the same as Prime-speed shipping.
What Amazon’s $35 minimum means now
For shoppers without Prime in the United States, Amazon says free delivery is available on orders of $35 or more. The total applies per order, and reaching the amount alone does not make every item eligible.

Eligibility requirements
- The product detail page must show that the item qualifies for free shipping.
- The item must be fulfilled by Amazon.
- The item must be shipped by Amazon.
- Eligible items generally need to be included in the same qualifying order to count toward the minimum.
Marketplace listings can have different fulfillment and shipping terms, so check each product page and the cart before placing an order.
How long free delivery takes
Amazon’s current explainer says eligible non-Prime free-delivery orders can take five to eight days. The benefit removes the delivery charge under the stated conditions; it does not promise Prime’s faster arrival windows.

How the $35 threshold began
On August 28, 2023, Amazon confirmed to TechCrunch that it was testing a $35 minimum for some non-Prime customers. The test raised the threshold from $25 in affected regions, rather than changing the rule uniformly for every customer at once.
The Associated Press reported that customers in some areas saw a $35 threshold while others still saw $25. Amazon said customers within the same ZIP-code-grouped region would see the same test threshold. Amazon’s spokesperson described the move as an evaluation of its offerings, saying the company was “currently testing a $35 minimum for non-Prime customers to qualify for free shipping.”

That rollout history is different from the current U.S. guidance. Amazon’s official explainer, published March 11, 2025, states the $35 requirement as the applicable non-Prime free-delivery guidance.

The practical choice depends on how often you order, how quickly you need packages and whether your purchases routinely reach $35. Amazon’s current U.S. explainer lists Prime at $14.99 per month or $139 per year. Those prices and benefits can change, so verify the membership page before subscribing.

| Consideration | Non-Prime order meeting $35 | Prime membership |

| Qualifying items | Items must be eligible and fulfilled and shipped by Amazon. | Prime eligibility also varies by item and location; check the product page. |
| Order pattern | Works best when planned purchases can be consolidated into qualifying orders. | Useful for frequent or time-sensitive orders that may not reach $35 individually. |

How to get free delivery without Prime
- Open the product page and check the seller, fulfillment information and free-shipping message.
- Add eligible items to your cart until the qualifying order total reaches at least $35.
- Review the cart and checkout page to confirm that free delivery is applied.
- Check the estimated arrival date; Amazon’s stated estimate for this benefit is five to eight days.
- If free delivery does not appear, remove or replace items that are not fulfilled and shipped by Amazon, or check whether the order is being split into separate shipments.
What shoppers should watch for
- Not every Amazon listing counts: third-party seller, fulfillment and eligibility details matter.
- The threshold is a service term, not a permanent guarantee: Amazon can change minimums, prices and delivery benefits.
- Free does not mean fast: allow the full five-to-eight-day estimate when timing matters.
- Do not add unwanted products just to reach $35: compare the resulting total with the shipping charge shown at checkout.
- Geography matters: the historical test varied by region, while the current statement cited here is Amazon’s U.S. guidance.
