Exynos 2300 Processor: Release Status, Rumored Specs and Galaxy Phones

The Exynos 2300 appears to have been an unreleased Samsung flagship SoC project. Here is what is confirmed, what was only rumored, and which Galaxy phones actually used other chips.

The Exynos 2300 was never confirmed as a commercial smartphone processor. Samsung reportedly developed a flagship chip codenamed “Quadra,” but no retail phone with a verified Exynos 2300 has been announced. The Galaxy S23, S23+ and S23 Ultra all launched with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy worldwide.

What the Exynos 2300 name refers to

Exynos 2300 describes a Samsung flagship-system-on-chip project that appeared in 2022 reporting, not a normally available product such as the Exynos 2200 or Exynos 2400. “Quadra” was the repeatedly reported internal codename, although Samsung never publicly confirmed that name.

  • Reported: Samsung developed and tested a chip associated with the Exynos 2300 name.
  • Unconfirmed: Its final CPU, GPU, modem, clocks, manufacturing status and performance.
  • Not established: A retail launch, official datasheet or consumer smartphone containing it.

The defensible description is that the project was apparently canceled, abandoned or stopped before commercial launch. Samsung has not published a detailed cancellation announcement.

How it fits between the Exynos 2200 and Exynos 2400

Exynos 2200: the confirmed predecessor

Samsung officially announced the Exynos 2200 in January 2022. Its documented features include Samsung 4 nm EUV manufacturing, an Armv9 CPU design, an AMD RDNA 2-derived Xclipse GPU, hardware ray tracing, an upgraded NPU and integrated 5G. Those are Exynos 2200 specifications, not proof of equivalent Exynos 2300 features. Samsung’s announcement provides the confirmed details.

Exynos 2400: the later flagship generation

Samsung returned to the Exynos name with the Exynos 2400 in selected Galaxy S24 models, alongside Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 variants in other markets. Its appearance effectively bypassed the 2300 designation. Samsung’s later reporting identifies this transition from the S23 Snapdragon platform to the S24-generation Snapdragon/Exynos mix. Samsung’s 2025 first-quarter interim report records that product history.

Rumored Exynos 2300 specifications

No final Samsung specification sheet exists. The following table separates recurring reports from confirmed facts; every technical detail other than commercial availability remains uncertain.

Attribute Reported expectation Confidence
Internal codename Quadra Medium; reported repeatedly, not Samsung-confirmed
Product class Samsung Exynos flagship mobile SoC Medium
Process Samsung 4 nm, sometimes described as an improved 4 nm process Low to medium
CPU architecture Armv9-era design Low to medium
Prime core One Cortex-X3 was reported Low to medium
Performance cores Cortex-A715 and/or Cortex-A710 Low to medium; reports conflicted
Efficiency cores Cortex-A510 family; one report described three A510R1 cores Low to medium
GPU Continuation of AMD RDNA 2-derived Xclipse graphics was expected Low
Intended phones Mostly linked to the Galaxy S23; later reports mentioned other Galaxy products Low
Commercial availability No confirmed retail release High

One contemporary report described a possible layout of one Cortex-X3, two Cortex-A715, two Cortex-A710 and three Cortex-A510-class cores on 4 nm. Ars Technica presented this as reported information, not a Samsung specification. Its Galaxy S23 coverage also distinguishes the rumored chip from the silicon that actually shipped.

Why the Galaxy S23 did not use it

Samsung’s February 2023 launch material names the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform for Galaxy in the Galaxy S23, S23+ and S23 Ultra. Qualcomm likewise said the customized platform powered the S23 series globally. Samsung’s announcement and Qualcomm’s partnership release establish that there was no Exynos 2300 S23 variant.

Contemporary reports offered several possible reasons, but Samsung did not confirm one single cause:

  • Performance may not have been competitive with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
  • Samsung’s 4 nm yield and efficiency difficulties may have affected readiness and volume.
  • The Samsung–Qualcomm agreement supplied a mature, customized Snapdragon alternative.
  • Development timing may have made a worldwide flagship launch too risky.

Notebookcheck summarized the reports about exclusive Snapdragon use and Exynos 2300 concerns, while SamMobile reported that work might have continued even if the S23 would not use the chip. Notebookcheck’s report and SamMobile’s report should be read as reporting, not an official cancellation statement.

Exynos 2300 versus Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy

The Snapdragon comparison is between a confirmed retail platform and an unconfirmed project. Samsung lists a maximum CPU speed of 3.36 GHz for the Galaxy S23’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy in its business specification document. The platform also uses Qualcomm Adreno graphics, an X70 5G modem-RF system and FastConnect connectivity. Samsung’s specification PDF documents the shipped device.

There is no reliable final Exynos 2300 device against which to run a fair benchmark. Claims that it was definitively faster, cooler, more efficient or slower are speculative unless tied to a verified engineering sample with disclosed firmware, benchmark version, thermal conditions, power mode and test device. Leaked CPU layouts and predicted clocks cannot establish sustained gaming, battery, modem or camera performance.

Which phones have the Exynos 2300?

None has been confirmed. The Galaxy S23 family used Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy globally. The Galaxy S23 FE is not an Exynos 2300 phone: Samsung’s processor showcase associates selected regional versions with the Exynos 2200. Samsung’s showcase is the relevant reference.

Reports speculated about other Galaxy products, but no commercially verified model number, retail listing or official Samsung page establishes an Exynos 2300 device.

How to avoid a misleading listing

  1. Check the phone’s exact model number rather than relying on the commercial name.
  2. Match the processor against the manufacturer’s full specifications for that model and destination market.
  3. Ask for credible device-level evidence before accepting an “Exynos 2300” claim; such listings are likely errors or misinformation.
  4. For imported phones, verify 5G/LTE bands, regional firmware, VoLTE and Wi-Fi calling, Samsung Pay support, warranty coverage, carrier certification and dual-SIM behavior.

For an actual Samsung flagship near the rumored 2300 target, the Galaxy S23 series is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy option. The Galaxy S23 FE uses Exynos 2200 in some markets, and the Galaxy S24 generation uses Exynos 2400 or Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 depending on region. Confirm the exact regional variant before buying; current prices vary by storage, condition, carrier and market.

The historical significance

The Exynos 2300 is best understood as a missing link in Samsung’s flagship-chip timeline: an apparently real development effort between the official Exynos 2200 and the later Exynos 2400, but not a product consumers could buy. Treat leaked specifications as historical reports, not as a finished datasheet.
