What happened to Outlook SaRA?
SaRA previously supplied automated diagnostics for Outlook and other Microsoft 365 products. Microsoft describes the current change as a design change: Outlook diagnostic experiences are being delivered through Get Help, so an older SaRA download or installation may redirect you rather than open the former interface. See Microsoft’s migration notice at How to use Outlook SaRA diagnostics in Windows Get Help.
This does not mean every SaRA download reference disappeared. It means the supported Outlook workflow has changed. Use current Get Help instructions rather than screenshots or command examples written for the legacy client.
Check whether the troubleshooter applies to your Outlook
Classic Outlook for Windows
The listed Get Help tools are for classic Outlook for Windows. The computer must run Windows 10 or later, and the troubleshooter must run on the same PC where classic Outlook is installed. Microsoft’s current list is at Classic Outlook troubleshooters.

New Outlook for Windows
The classic-Outlook links do not work with new Outlook. Check Outlook for the New Outlook toggle or other version indicators before starting. If you use new Outlook, follow Microsoft’s separate guidance at Resolve Outlook for Windows issues with automated troubleshooting tools instead of repeatedly installing SaRA.
Important environment limits
- Get Help can be disabled by organizational policy.
- Microsoft says the troubleshooters are not currently optimized for virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), including pooled or nonpersistent desktops, and may not function properly there.
- Microsoft’s documented administrative workflow expects Outlook to be running. If Outlook cannot start at all, try the graphical startup troubleshooter first and then use manual troubleshooting or administrator support.
Run an Outlook troubleshooter in Get Help
- Open the Get Help app in Windows.
- Enter wording that describes the problem in the search box.
- Select the matching Outlook troubleshooter and choose Start, or use its launch control.
- If Windows asks, “This site is trying to open Get Help,” select Open.
- Follow the diagnostic questions and provide consent when requested.
- Review the findings and suggested remedies. Reopen Outlook if a recommended change resolves the issue.
General instructions for the app are available in Running troubleshooters in Get Help. Labels and availability can vary by Windows build, language, tenant, and organizational policy, so an exact phrase may not always return the same card.

For deeper calendar integrity work, Microsoft points to CalCheck, which examines calendar items and settings such as permissions, free/busy publishing, delegates, and automatic booking. It is a specialized calendar tool, not a general replacement for Get Help.

%LocalAppData%GetHelpPaste that environment-variable path into File Explorer’s address bar. If logs do not open automatically, inspect that folder and provide the relevant files to your help desk. Do not search the entire drive first.
Use GetHelpCmd.exe for scripted or enterprise diagnostics
Microsoft recommends GetHelpCmd.exe as the replacement for the SaRA command-line utility. SaRA’s command-line utility was removed from supported Windows versions through updates released on or after March 10, 2026; existing scripts must be migrated to the GetHelpCmdLine environment rather than reused unchanged. See Microsoft’s removal and replacement notice.
- Download the GetHelp ZIP package and extract it, for example, to
C:GetHelpCMD. - Open Command Prompt. Microsoft’s documented workflow does not require an administrator session.
- Change to the extracted folder and run:
GetHelpCmd.exe -S ExpertExperienceAdminTask -AcceptEula- Enter
Ywhen prompted. - Allow about 1–2 minutes for diagnostic files to be prepared.
- Check
%localappdata%tempGetHelpdafsand confirm thatRUN.ps1exists. - Open PowerShell as a normal user and change to the DAFs directory. Microsoft’s example is:
cd C:UsersUSERNAMEAppDataLocalTempGetHelpDAFs- Run the script:
.Run.ps1 -execPath C:UsersUSERNAMEAppDataLocalTempGetHelpDAFsA successful run displays timestamps and percentage progress. The complete collection can take up to 35 minutes, especially with a large Outlook profile. Keep the device powered on, avoid interrupting Outlook, and leave the original Command Prompt window open until completion or timeout. Final logs should appear in %localappdata%GetHelp.
If PowerShell blocks Run.ps1

Set-ExecutionPolicy -Scope Process -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -ForceThis affects only the current PowerShell process. A permanent, machine-wide execution-policy change is not necessary for this diagnostic unless your organization explicitly requires one.
Advanced Fiddler trace collection
For network-level investigation, Microsoft provides a separate Get Help entry point at https://aka.ms/FiddlerTrace-GetHelp and instructions at https://aka.ms/FiddlerTraceInstructions-GetHelp. Treat this as an advanced support workflow. Network traces can contain account, domain, URL, or message metadata, so collect them only under appropriate support or organizational guidance.
When Get Help fails
“Open Get Help” does nothing
First check whether Get Help is blocked by policy, whether you are on Windows 10 or later, and whether you launched the tool on the same computer as classic Outlook. Also confirm that you are not using new Outlook. A damaged Get Help app or protocol handler is another practical possibility; involve your Windows administrator rather than bypassing organizational controls.
The DAFs folder or RUN.ps1 is missing
Check %localappdata%tempGetHelpDAFs and verify that the preparation command completed. If necessary, rerun the command from the extracted GetHelp folder. Endpoint security software may have quarantined or blocked an extracted file; use your organization’s approved review or exception process instead of disabling protection indiscriminately.

The diagnostic produces no repair
Not every tool changes Outlook. Some identify a cause, recommend a remedy, or collect evidence. Apply the recommended steps, then use Microsoft’s manual issue-specific guidance when the finding does not resolve the problem.
VDI or remote deployment
Microsoft warns that Get Help troubleshooters may not function properly in VDI. Escalate to the desktop engineering or Microsoft 365 support team and use centrally approved diagnostic collection. GetHelpCmdLine is designed for command-line, PowerShell, remote, and scripted organizational scenarios, subject to your policies.

- Calendar integrity: use CalCheck for specialized calendar checks.
- Unsupported scenario, blocked policy, or total startup failure: use Microsoft’s manual troubleshooting articles or contact your administrator or Microsoft support.

Can old SaRA command-line scripts be reused?
No. Microsoft says supported command-line scenarios were migrated to GetHelpCmdLine, so scripts must be adapted to the new environment.
