Short answer: The Motorola Edge (2020) is a genuine original Edge model, not the Edge+ or a later Edge generation. Its 6.7-inch 90Hz OLED screen, headphone jack, microSD slot, stereo speakers and Snapdragon 765 remain appealing for inexpensive used-phone buyers. In 2026, however, uncertain software support, battery age, curved-screen repair risk and carrier-specific 5G compatibility make it a poor default primary phone. Buy only when the exact variant is compatible, the screen and battery are healthy, and the price is well below newer supported phones.
What is the Motorola Edge 2020?
The Motorola Edge (2020) was Motorola’s upper-midrange 5G phone introduced alongside the more expensive Motorola Edge+. It launched with Android 10 and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765, placing it below the Edge+ and its Snapdragon 865 platform. Listings may call it “Motorola Edge,” “Motorola Edge 5G,” “Motorola Edge 5G unlocked,” or use an XT2063-series model number.
Do not confuse it with the Motorola Edge+ (2020), Edge (2021), Edge 20, or later Edge generations. Motorola’s official specifications identify the regular model here: Motorola Edge specifications.

Display and design
The defining feature is Motorola’s 6.7-inch “Endless Edge” curved OLED. Its 90Hz refresh rate makes scrolling and supported animations feel smoother than 60Hz phones, while HDR10 and the wide color gamut give video a more premium presentation. The large panel is still enjoyable for browsing, streaming and navigation.
Curved glass is also the main ownership risk. Screen protectors are harder to fit, reflections and color shifts can appear near the bends, and edge touches can be accidental. On a used unit, inspect for green or pink tint, flicker, dead zones, ghost touches, burn-in and cracks that begin at the sides. A curved OLED replacement can eliminate the savings from a cheap purchase.
The phone includes features newer models often omit: a headphone jack, microSD expansion and dual stereo speakers. Its water-repellent construction should not be treated as permission to submerge it.
Performance in 2026
The Snapdragon 765 remains adequate for web browsing, messaging, streaming, navigation, social apps and casual games. Six gigabytes of RAM is workable for ordinary multitasking. It is not equivalent to a 2020 flagship Snapdragon 865 phone and is well behind current 2026 midrange and flagship processors. Expect longer app loads and limited headroom in demanding games; the 5G logo and 90Hz display do not make it a modern-performance device.

Motorola gives the Edge a versatile rear array: a 64MP f/1.8 main camera, 16MP f/2.2 ultra-wide that also handles macro shots, an 8MP f/2.4 2× optical telephoto and a time-of-flight sensor. The selfie camera is 25MP. Motorola lists 4K recording at 30fps, plus 1080p at 60 or 30fps and 720p at 30fps. Night Vision, RAW capture, manual controls, portrait, HDR, macro and electronic stabilization are available on the specification page.
Rank #2
The flexibility is useful in good light, but megapixel counts do not equal current flagship image quality. Newer phones process night scenes and moving subjects more effectively, and independent reviews found the Edge’s camera results less consistent than its display and general usability. See Digital Trends, Android Authority and TechRadar for period evaluations.
Battery life and charging
The original 4,500mAh battery was a strong point, and Motorola advertised up to two days under its own usage assumptions. That claim does not describe a six-year-old used battery. Surviving units may have reduced endurance, heat during 5G or gaming, unexpected shutdowns, or slow charging from a worn battery, damaged cable or dirty port.
When buying, test charging from roughly 0–10 percent for several minutes, confirm the cable fits firmly, watch for the TurboPower indication, and check for excessive heat or shutdowns below 15–20 percent. Ask for battery-health evidence where available and include a possible replacement in your budget; a claimed replacement is not proof that the cell is genuine.
5G and carrier compatibility
Yes, the Edge supports 5G, with bands including n1, n3, n7, n28, n38 and n78 on Motorola’s specification. Actual service depends on the model, carrier, region, plan and coverage. The user guide also cautions that 5G availability is service-dependent.
Do not assume an “unlocked” listing works on every network. Before paying, verify:

- Renewed condition : May have few minor scuffs or scratches
- }; { language_tag:en_CA, value:This device is unlocked & will be compatible with all major Canadian carriers.
- Network bands in regions may be different depending on the mobile operator & your location. Available storage is less due to phone software updates & apps usage.

- Premium aftermarket charger & USB Cable only.
- the exact model number and whether it is a US, international or carrier version;

- that the phone is genuinely unlocked, not merely described that way;
- whether the software supports the advertised dual-SIM or 5G behavior.
Motorola’s specification notes that dual 5G/4G SIM capability was not available at launch and could be added later through software, another reason to check the particular device.

Every Edge (2020) launched on Android 10. That launch version is not the same as a guaranteed current version. Motorola says upgrade plans and functionality can vary by product, carrier and region, and its security page warns that devices no longer listed may no longer receive updates. Check the exact model in Motorola’s software-upgrade guide and security-update information before purchase.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteFor a 2026 buyer, treat official support as expired or uncertain unless Motorola confirms otherwise for that exact variant. That makes the phone unsuitable for buyers who require long-term security updates, dependable banking-app compatibility, enterprise enrollment or a current Android release.
Common used-buying problems
Curved OLED damage
- Display tint, flicker, uneven brightness or burn-in.
- Unresponsive curved edges or ghost touches.
- Cracks extending from the frame.
Battery and USB-C wear
- Rapid drain, heat or shutdowns at low percentages.
- Loose port, intermittent charging or missing TurboPower behavior.
- Slow USB 2.0 file transfers, even when charging works normally.
Variant and storage confusion
Listings may say 128GB or 256GB because both appear in official regional materials. On the phone, open Settings → About phone → Device details, compare the model number with the listing, and check actual storage. Confirm it is the regular Edge rather than Edge+.
Water and accessory claims
Water-repellent design is not waterproof certification. Also confirm that a case or curved-screen protector is made for the original 2020 Edge, not Edge+, Edge 2021 or Edge 20.
Is it worth buying in 2026?
It can make sense when
- You need a cheap secondary or temporary phone.
- You specifically want a headphone jack, microSD slot, stereo speakers or a large 90Hz OLED.
- The exact model is carrier-compatible and unlocked.
- The screen is flawless, the battery is usable and the price is substantially below newer supported phones.
- You accept uncertain security support and possible battery replacement.
Skip it when
- It will be your main phone for several more years.
- You handle banking, sensitive work or business enrollment on it.
- The seller cannot provide a model number or return period.
- The asking price approaches a newer budget or refurbished midrange phone.
- The display has damage, edge-touch problems or burn-in.
- You need dependable 5G across multiple carriers or heavy-gaming performance.
Motorola’s US launch price was $699, with a $499 introductory price in 2020; those historical figures are not a 2026 valuation. TechRadar’s launch report documents the original pricing. Judge any current listing by condition, support life and carrier fit rather than by its launch price.
Quick Recap
