Windows 11 Build 26100.2448 was a Windows 11 version 24H2 Release Preview build released on November 14, 2024 as KB5046740. It was an Insider testing release, not the final public December update. Microsoft later released the public KB5048667 update, which brought Windows 11 24H2 to build 26100.2605 on December 10, 2024.

Microsoft announced the preview build in the Windows Insider Release Preview announcement. Release Preview is closer to production than Beta or Canary, but it remains pre-release software. Features can be enabled gradually, so installing the build did not guarantee that every listed change would appear immediately.
What changed in Build 26100.2448?
Start-menu jump lists
Right-clicking a supported pinned app in Start can show a jump list of app-specific actions or recent items. This depends on the individual app; it is not automatically available for every application, and Microsoft classified the rollout as gradual.
Narrator scan-mode shortcuts
Narrator added shortcuts for moving through content more quickly: N moves to the next item and L moves to the next landmark. To use them:

Microsoft said additional language files would be delivered separately through the Microsoft Store.
System-tray date, time and notifications
The preview tested a shorter date-and-time presentation in the system tray. Microsoft also documented a case where the notification bell might not appear when Do Not Disturb was enabled and the desktop used a slideshow background. These were staged changes rather than guaranteed behavior on every installation.
Touchscreen edge gestures
The release included touchscreen and Settings improvements related to edge gestures. Exact wording and availability could vary by Insider rollout, so the menu labels on a particular device may differ.

Bug fixes included
Desktop, input and taskbar
- The circles shown by “Show location of pointer when I press the CTRL key” could be too small on some displays; this was corrected.
- Clipboard History opened with
Win + Vcould appear empty despite being enabled and having copied content. - When the taskbar was set to hide automatically, Search could appear only as an icon instead of a full search box.
File Explorer
- Reduced excessive spacing between items in the left navigation pane.
- Fixed the Search box being cut off when the Explorer window was small.
- Fixed the See more menu opening upward and potentially moving off-screen instead of opening downward.
Task Manager and WSL
- The Users page in Task Manager could stop responding to keyboard input.
- Windows Subsystem for Linux could stop working and fail to start. This addresses the documented startup failure; it is not a promise that every WSL problem is resolved.
Graphics, images and document export
- GDI+ image-property retrieval and scaling during image re-encoding were corrected.
- RAW-format images could display the wrong orientation.
- An application could stop responding while exporting chart objects to PDF or XLSX.
Gaming and multi-monitor behavior
Opening and closing Xbox Game Bar while gaming across multiple monitors could leave the mouse unlocked from the game window. The build fixed that behavior.
Deployment and ARM64
HTA optional components were added to ARM64 Windows PE. This primarily affects deployment engineers and IT administrators rather than typical home users.

Was it available to everyone?
No. Build 26100.2448 was offered through the Release Preview Channel to users who had joined Windows Insider. It was not the November 2024 stable update and should not be treated as a normal Patch Tuesday security release.
Because the build dates from November 2024, Windows Update and Insider settings in 2026 should not be expected to offer this exact package. They normally provide a newer build instead.
How to identify the installed build
- Open Settings.
- Go to System > About.
- Under Windows specifications, check the version and OS build.
Alternatively, press Win + R, enter winver, and select OK. Confirm both 24H2 and 26100.2448; another 26100-series build is a different package or feature state.

How Insider users could obtain it
- Open Settings > Windows Update > Windows Insider Program.
- Link a Microsoft account if Windows requests it.
- Select Release Preview Channel.
- Return to Windows Update and check for updates.
- Restart when prompted.
That path now leads to the current Release Preview target, not necessarily 26100.2448. Back up important data before using preview software.

Release Preview can make sense when
- You intentionally use Windows Insider.
- The computer is backed up and not essential to production work.
- You need one of the documented fixes and accept possible regressions.
- You can report problems through Feedback Hub.
Stay on stable Windows when
- The PC supports business-critical work.
- You require maximum driver and application compatibility.
- You use specialized hardware or software.
- You are looking for an ordinary security update rather than pre-release testing.
For most users, the stable servicing path and a later public cumulative update are more appropriate than trying to obtain this historical preview build.

Troubleshooting and installation guidance
If Windows Update fails
- Restart Windows and retry.
- Check available storage.
- Disconnect unnecessary peripherals.
- Investigate third-party antivirus or system-modification utilities.
- Record the exact Windows Update error code.
If you use the Microsoft Update Catalog, select the package matching your Windows release and architecture. Do not download MSU files from unofficial mirrors.
Manual installation of the public successor
Administrators can use the package documented for KB5048667. For an x64 package stored at the example path, Microsoft gave these methods:
DISM /Online /Add-Package /PackagePath:c:packagesWindows11.0-KB5048667-x64.msu
Add-WindowsPackage -Online -PackagePath "c:packagesWindows11.0-KB5048667-x64.msu"
Use the correct architecture and filename. These commands are for the later public KB5048667 package, not a way to install KB5046740 without obtaining the appropriate preview package and prerequisites. The Catalog listing is available at Microsoft Update Catalog.
If a listed feature is missing
Check that the device is on 24H2 and the expected build, then allow for Microsoft’s staged rollout. A feature may be enabled independently of the base OS build.
If WSL still will not start
- Restart Windows.
- Confirm hardware virtualization is still enabled.
- Check the installed WSL version and distribution.
- Run the relevant current WSL diagnostic commands.
- Consult Microsoft’s Windows 11 24H2 resolved-issues dashboard before considering rollback.
ARM64 and x64 systems use different packages and can have different compatibility behavior. Devices running Windows 11 23H2 or earlier should not assume that a 26100-series package applies to them.
Bottom line
Build 26100.2448 was a historical Windows 11 24H2 Release Preview build, not a universal stable update. It tested incremental Start, Narrator, tray, touch and Dynamic Lighting changes and fixed specific Explorer, WSL, graphics, Task Manager and gaming issues. The public follow-up was KB5048667, build 26100.2605. Most readers should use the current stable update channel rather than seek the old preview package.
