No. Sony’s current PS5 system settings do not document a dedicated system-wide Night Mode, Night Light, blue-light filter, dark-theme switch, or scheduled night display mode. You can dim the console’s physical indicator, use accessibility controls, and—most effectively—adjust the TV or monitor that displays the PS5 picture.
This reflects Sony’s latest support documentation reviewed on August 18, 2026; a future firmware update could change the available options.
What “Night Mode” could mean
People use “night mode” to describe several different functions:
- A darker console interface or theme.
- Lower screen brightness or panel light output.
- A warmer color temperature or reduced blue-light output.
- Less flashing, motion, or visual stimulation.
- An automatic schedule that changes settings after dark.
The PS5 does not provide one console setting that performs these functions. The appropriate control depends on what is bothering you.

PS5 settings that can help at night
Dim the PS5’s power indicator
If the bright light on the console itself is the problem, set it to Dim:
- From the PS5 home screen, open Settings.
- Select System.
- Open Beep and Light.
- Select Brightness.
- Choose Dim.
Sony documents three choices—Dim, Medium, and Bright. This changes only the physical console indicator; it does not dim your TV or monitor, change game brightness, alter the home-screen colors, or filter blue light. See Sony’s instructions at PlayStation Support.
Use accessibility display controls
Go to Settings > Accessibility > Display and Sound. The documented options include Invert Colors, Color Correction, Text Size, Bold Text, High Contrast, Show Check Mark on Enabled Settings, Auto-Scroll Speed, and Reduce Motion.
- Reduce Motion can reduce some interface movement. It does not dim the picture or remove blue light, and individual games may still have their own motion effects.
- High Contrast improves the distinction between text and backgrounds. It is a legibility aid, not a brightness-reduction mode.
- Color Correction applies selectable filters and an intensity control for color-perception needs. It is not a general night filter and can change game colors.
- Invert Colors reverses text and background colors. It can help particular accessibility needs, but it usually looks unlike a natural dark theme. Sony also states that enabling it turns off HDR.

Review video-output settings carefully
Under Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output, the PS5 offers options such as Resolution, 120 Hz Output, ALLM, Video Transfer Rate, HDR, Adjust HDR, Deep Color Output, and RGB Range. These are for compatibility and picture output, not for night viewing.
Turning HDR off may make an image appear less intense on some displays, but it is not a blue-light filter or dark mode. Incorrect RGB Range settings can make blacks look crushed or gray. Lowering resolution or refresh rate is not a reliable way to reduce eye strain. Change these options only for a specific display problem, using Sony’s 4K and video-output guidance.
The best way to dim PS5 gaming
The PS5 sends its picture to an external TV or monitor, so that display is normally where night-time brightness and color controls belong. Menu names vary by manufacturer and model. Look for options such as Eye Comfort, Low Blue Light, Night Shift, Night Mode, Warm Color, Reduce Blue, Cinema, or Filmmaker.
Change settings in this order
- Lower Backlight or OLED Light. This reduces the panel’s overall light output. It is usually the most direct way to reduce glare.
- Choose Cinema or Filmmaker. These presets are generally less aggressive than Vivid or Dynamic modes.
- Reduce Brightness only if needed. On many TVs, Brightness changes the black level rather than overall light output; lowering it too far can hide shadow detail.
- Enable Eye Comfort or Low Blue Light. This usually warms the image or reduces some blue wavelengths. It may make whites look yellow or orange and does not necessarily make the panel physically dimmer.
- Reduce excessive Dynamic Contrast or vivid processing. These features can make highlights feel harsh in a dark room.
- Calibrate the game’s brightness or HDR. Check the game’s Display, Video, Graphics, or Accessibility menu.
- Dim the PS5 indicator separately if the console light is also distracting.
Do not assume every device’s “Night Mode” changes the picture. On some TVs, soundbars, or home-theater systems, the label refers to volume compression or dialogue enhancement instead.

Can PS5 schedule a darker screen at night?
Sony’s current PS5 documentation does not list a console-level schedule that changes screen brightness, color temperature, or interface appearance at sunset or at a selected time. Look for scheduling on the TV or monitor instead; some models can automate Eye Comfort or a picture preset.
PS5 Rest Mode is not a substitute. To enter it, press the PS button, select Power, then Enter Rest Mode (or press the console’s power button once). Rest Mode lowers console activity and power use and can support charging and updates; it does not apply a display filter. Details are in Sony’s power-saving guide.
Game-specific night and comfort controls
Individual games may offer gamma or brightness sliders, HDR calibration, color filters, high-contrast modes, reduced-flash options, camera-shake controls, motion-blur settings, or other accessibility presets. These apply only to that title and cannot change the PS5 home screen, streaming apps, or the PlayStation Store.
Check the game’s Options/Settings > Display, Video, Graphics, or Accessibility sections. Exact labels vary by game, edition, and software version.

If the picture is suddenly too bright, dark, or washed out
- Check whether the TV changed to Vivid, Dynamic, HDR, or another picture preset.
- Compare the TV’s HDR state with the PS5’s HDR and Adjust HDR settings.
- Check RGB Range and the display’s corresponding HDMI black-level setting; mismatches can produce gray blacks or crushed detail.
- Inspect HDMI input settings and any receiver, soundbar, HDMI switch, or capture device between the PS5 and display.
- If HDR stopped working after an accessibility change, check Invert Colors; Sony says that option disables HDR.
- Review the game’s own brightness, gamma, HDR, and accessibility settings.

Use softer room lighting, reduce reflections on the screen, and sit at a comfortable distance. A completely dark room can make a bright screen feel more glaring by comparison. If discomfort, headaches, or visual sensitivity persists, take regular breaks and consider professional medical advice; no PS5 setting guarantees relief for every viewer.
PS5 versus Xbox Night Mode
Xbox has separately documented a Night Mode with dimming and blue-light controls, which is a common source of confusion. That feature does not establish an equivalent option on PS5. What about the PlayStation App?
The PlayStation App is a separate mobile application, and its theme behavior can differ between iOS and Android. A dark appearance in the app would not add Night Mode to the PS5 console. Treat mobile-app settings and console settings as separate features.
