The TracFone-oriented model is N151DL and is commonly carrier-restricted. However, current direct TracFone inventory is not confirmed; most remaining stock appears to be used, open-box, or marketplace inventory. Before buying, obtain the exact IMEI and check it with TracFone.
What the TracFone Nokia C200 is
HMD announced the Nokia C200 as a US 4G smartphone planned for the second quarter of 2022, with a $119 manufacturer’s suggested retail price and TracFone listed among its US wireless partners. That announcement establishes the original distribution plan, not current stock. HMD’s US expansion announcement identifies the launch details.
The TracFone-specific device is identified as Nokia C200 N151DL. A TracFone user guide uses that model number and documents USB-C charging. The N151DL TracFone guide is more useful than a listing title because “Nokia C200” also appears on other regional and carrier variants.
Do not confuse N151DL with every C200
Another identifier, TA-1437, is associated with the C200 family. It may represent a different regional or carrier configuration with different firmware, bands, SIM behavior, or activation eligibility. A separate C200 guide reference associates TA-1437 and N151DL, but a marketplace listing that only says “C200 unlocked” is not enough to identify the TracFone version.

Is the Nokia C200 still available?
Direct TracFone stock
Current TracFone pages surfaced for this article do not verify an active C200 product page, inventory, and checkout flow. TracFone still lists Nokia among supported brands, but that does not prove that the C200 remains a current retail product. Check TracFone’s brand support page and the current BYOP page for live status.
Marketplace and old stock
Third-party listings continue to show N151DL phones in new, open-box, refurbished, used, locked, and parts-only condition. Indexed examples included approximately $69.99 for a new listing and $14.99 for a used listing; these were individual seller prices, not an official price range, and may exclude shipping or taxes. A listing proves only that a seller is offering a device. It does not prove a clean IMEI, current activation eligibility, warranty coverage, or unlockability.

What “locked on TracFone” means
A carrier lock is software that prevents activation with an unrelated carrier until the original provider authorizes an unlock. TracFone defines unlocking as disabling software that would otherwise prevent activation elsewhere, while warning that an unlocked phone can still have limited functionality because network technologies and compatibility differ. Read TracFone’s terms for the governing policy.
- A TracFone or eligible TracFone-family SIM may work while the phone remains locked.
- An unrelated carrier’s SIM may be rejected or fail to register.
- Paying a marketplace seller does not itself unlock the phone.
- “TracFone compatible,” “used on TracFone,” and “unlocked” describe different situations.
The N151DL should therefore be treated as restricted until the individual handset’s status is verified. A phone that accepts one TracFone-family SIM is not automatically unlocked or interchangeable across every related brand.
How to check a listing before buying
Ask the seller for the exact model and IMEI before paying. The IMEI matters more than the product name because activation databases and blacklist records apply to the individual device.

- Confirm that the phone is N151DL, not merely a C200 with an unspecified regional variant.
- Request the IMEI from the phone’s settings or by dialing
*#06#. A public listing can mask some digits, but the seller must provide enough information for a private check. - Ask whether it is TracFone-locked, carrier-unlocked, locked to another provider, or not tested.
- Ask whether it was previously activated and whether it has been reported lost, stolen, or associated with fraud.
- Run the IMEI through TracFone’s compatibility checker, using the intended carrier context and ZIP code.
- Confirm a meaningful return period. Avoid “for parts,” “activation unknown,” or no-return listings unless you accept the risk.
- For used phones, verify battery condition, USB-C port operation, factory-reset status, and removal of the previous owner’s Google account.
“New” can mean old retail stock, so it does not establish battery freshness or current warranty coverage.
How to verify the lock and activate it
Practical lock test
- Power on the C200 and record its IMEI.
- Insert a SIM from a carrier unrelated to TracFone, if one is available.
- Restart the phone and watch for a SIM rejection, network-registration failure, or unlock-code request.
- Review network or SIM settings for lock information where the installed software exposes it; Android labels vary by carrier firmware and version.
- Use the intended carrier’s activation process rather than treating a single SIM test as final proof.
TracFone activation sequence
- Confirm the N151DL model and IMEI.
- Submit the IMEI to TracFone’s official checker. Acceptance can depend on LTE bands, ZIP code, service configuration, and current network policy.
- Obtain the appropriate TracFone SIM or activation method.
- Select a current TracFone plan and activate through the official BYOP flow.
- Test calls, texts, mobile data, and emergency calling before the seller’s return window expires.
The C200’s “4G” label is not a universal compatibility guarantee. TracFone says supported bands and service area affect eligibility, and an LTE-capable phone can still fail an operator’s IMEI database check. A Verizon-branded or other-brand-locked C200 should not be assumed to activate on TracFone merely because of corporate or network relationships.
Can TracFone unlock it?
The indexed TracFone terms say an unlock request generally requires a customer request, at least 12 months of TracFone activation with plans redeemed for at least 12 months, a working handset, and no lost, stolen, or fraud association. For a phone without the required service history, the terms state that TracFone may charge up to $300, depending on how long it was active. These are policy terms available at the time of checking, not a permanent promise; confirm the current rule for the specific IMEI before purchase.

A used handset’s prior service history may not transfer cleanly to a new buyer. Eligibility can depend on the activation date, account and IMEI records, device capability, brand, and technical unlock process. Ask TracFone about the exact IMEI rather than relying on a seller’s assurance. TracFone support lists 1-800-867-7183 and online support through its support page.

Consider it when
- The price is very low and you want a basic secondary Android phone.
- You already use TracFone and the IMEI passes its current checker.
- The seller provides a clean IMEI, a return period, and clear lock information.
- You do not need 5G, modern performance, long software support, or frequent carrier changes.
Pass on it when
- You need an unlocked phone immediately.
- The seller will not provide the IMEI or offers no returns.
- The listing says “activation unknown,” “for parts,” or confuses N151DL with an international C200.
- You need dependable use across several carriers or expect the latest network and software features.
- The price is close to that of a newer unlocked budget phone.
The decisive buying criterion is verified activation eligibility, not cosmetic condition or the lowest advertised price.
Alternatives
Newer TracFone-compatible Nokia
TracFone’s BYOP page currently surfaces newer examples such as the Nokia C300 and Nokia C110. They may offer a more current starting point, but check each phone’s IMEI and ZIP-code eligibility rather than assuming compatibility from the model name.

Unlocked budget Android phone
An unlocked budget phone is usually preferable if you may change carriers, test multiple SIMs, or want easier resale. Compare the higher purchase price with the value of avoiding carrier restrictions and a potentially lengthy unlock process.
Used unlocked phone
A reputable refurbisher may provide more flexibility than a locked C200. Still verify IMEI cleanliness, battery health, LTE/VoLTE support, software condition, returns, and that “unlocked” applies to the exact device being shipped.
