Wired models generally deliver the strongest microphone and sound value at this budget. The Logitech G435 LIGHTSPEED is the main wireless exception, with important fit and microphone compromises.

Our three safest choices
- Best overall: Logitech G432, if a verified seller has it at $50 or less.
- Best competitive FPS: Razer BlackShark V2 X.
- Best wireless: Logitech G435 LIGHTSPEED, provided its fit suits you and the microphone is adequate.
How the $50 cutoff works
The main list uses new products, US pre-tax street pricing, and a $50 maximum. Refurbished, used and open-box units are excluded. A sale-only product is labeled as such; a manufacturer MSRP does not qualify a headset. Check price and stock on the day you order because RTINGS has removed models when availability became unreliable or prices rose.
Headset recommendations
1. Logitech G432 — best overall value
The G432 is the most complete wired package when its live price is at or below $50. Its 3.5mm connection works broadly, while the included USB adapter enables Logitech software, EQ and presets. RTINGS describes it as comfortable and light, and its boom mic is a practical choice for Discord and classes.

Fit is the qualification: ear-cup positioning can produce inconsistent sound, and low bass is limited. Skip it if you cannot confirm current stock at the budget price or want wireless freedom. RTINGS source.
2. Razer BlackShark V2 X — best for competitive FPS
This 240g, 3.5mm headset uses Razer TriForce 50mm drivers and a HyperClear cardioid boom microphone. Closed earcups provide passive isolation, useful when a fan or shared room competes with game audio. Its lightweight design and emphasis on effects and positional detail suit shooters.
Razer’s virtual 7.1 feature is software-based and limited to Windows 10 64-bit; it is not active noise cancellation. The headset has no wireless mode or Chroma lighting. Razer specifications.
3. SteelSeries Arctis Nova 1 — best balanced wired alternative
The Nova 1 combines a 3.5mm cable, retractable ClearCast microphone, on-headset volume and mute controls, and AirWeave memory-foam cushions. SteelSeries lists 253g and compatibility with PC, Mac, Chromebook, PlayStation, Xbox, Switch and mobile devices using the appropriate jack.
It is a sensible all-rounder for gaming, calls and music, but RTINGS notes that it lacks app support and sound-customization controls. SteelSeries specifications.
4. Astro A10 — best microphone-focused pick
RTINGS’ testing gives the wired A10 strong microphone recording and noise-handling results. Its punchy tuning brings game effects and footsteps forward, making it suitable for voice chat and action games.
Dialogue and instruments can sound recessed, and there are no built-in EQ presets. Choose it for communication clarity rather than music accuracy. RTINGS testing.
5. Logitech G435 LIGHTSPEED — best wireless option
The G435 combines a low-latency USB dongle with Bluetooth, so it can serve a PC and a phone without a cable. Its warm presentation works well for games, and the wireless design keeps a desk uncluttered. Check the current retailer price before treating it as an under-$50 buy; Logitech’s product page is here.

Its integrated microphones are less effective at separating background noise than a boom mic, and RTINGS says the fit favors smaller heads. It has no sound-customization features. Disable Bluetooth while troubleshooting the 2.4GHz connection.

6. Turtle Beach Recon 50X/50P — cheapest usable wired headset
The Recon 50 family offers a basic AUX connection, large padded cups and a boom mic with strong recording quality in RTINGS’ testing. Select the Xbox-oriented 50X or PlayStation-oriented 50P suffix carefully; PC is the focus here, but bundle controls differ.
The plastic construction and muddy dialogue are the compromises. It is a good replacement when spending as little as possible matters more than refinement. RTINGS testing.
7. HyperX Cloud III — best durable sale pick
The Cloud III becomes compelling when a promotion brings it to $50 or less. It includes a detachable microphone, analog connection and USB adapter, plus HyperX NGENUITY graphic EQ and presets. RTINGS reports strong midrange clarity.
Sub-bass is weak and normal pricing often exceeds the cutoff, so verify the checkout price rather than relying on an old MSRP. RTINGS testing.
8. HyperX Cloud Stinger 2 Core — basic HyperX option
HyperX lists 40mm directional drivers, a closed-back design, swivel-to-mute microphone, included PC extension/splitter and a 0.60lb weight. The page displayed a $29.99 sale against a $39.99 reference price, but it also showed the headset out of stock on August 18, 2026.
Treat it as a retailer-stock watch, not a guaranteed current purchase. HyperX product page.
9. Turtle Beach Recon 70 — comfort-first alternative
RTINGS describes the Recon 70 as more comfortable than the Recon 50X/50P. That makes it the better Recon choice when clamp and cushion feel matter most.

11. Corsair HS55 Stereo — buy only when discounted
The HS55 has memory-foam leatherette pads, 50mm neodymium drivers, a flip-to-mute omnidirectional microphone and a 3.5mm cable. Corsair lists its weight as 273–284g depending on the displayed specification.

12. Razer Kraken V3 X — RGB-focused alternative
The Kraken V3 X is worth considering only if you specifically want RGB lighting and USB connectivity and can verify a current sub-$50 offer. USB can bypass poor motherboard analog audio and may provide software controls.
Do not assume an old sale still applies: RTINGS removed the Kraken X from notable mentions because stock and pricing became inconsistent. RTINGS availability note.
13. Logitech G332 — conventional Logitech alternative
The G332 is a traditional wired headset with a 3.5mm connection and boom microphone. It can make sense when a current retailer has it materially cheaper than newer alternatives.
Because it is an older model, verify stock, exact revision and PC cable arrangement; historical MSRP is not evidence that it currently offers good value.
14. Corsair HS35 Stereo — simple multi-platform option
The HS35 is a straightforward 3.5mm headset for buyers who do not need USB software or wireless pairing. Its appeal is broad analog compatibility rather than extra features.
Check current microphone configuration, splitter inclusion and price separately. Do not confuse this model with the HS55 Stereo, whose official price is above the budget.

15. JBL Quantum 100 — non-gamer-looking alternative
The Quantum 100 can suit buyers who prefer a restrained design and a conventional wired headset with a microphone. Include it only when a live US listing is $50 or less and the seller provides a clear warranty and return policy.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteIt is an entry-level option, so prioritize a verified price and fit over marketing claims. If those checks fail, choose one of the better-documented models above rather than an unknown marketplace brand.
Wired versus wireless under $50
Why wired usually wins
- No charging, pairing or wireless interference.
- Usually better boom-microphone performance at this price.
- 3.5mm models can work with PCs, consoles and phones.
- USB adapters can add EQ or bypass poor onboard audio.
When wireless is worth it
Choose wireless for movement and a cleaner desk, accepting battery management, dongle placement and more limited microphone choices. Plug a dongle directly into the PC, try a rear motherboard port if front USB is unstable, charge fully, select the correct Windows input and output, and test 2.4GHz with Bluetooth disabled.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.PC compatibility checklist
- Identify whether the computer has one TRRS combo jack or separate headphone and microphone ports.
- Confirm that a PC splitter is included for separate ports.
- Check whether the headset is USB-only, 3.5mm-only or supplied with both.
- Verify that surround software supports your Windows edition.
- Confirm the exact PC, Xbox or PlayStation variant.
- Check whether the microphone is detachable, retractable, flip-to-mute or fixed.
- Prefer a replaceable cable when long-term repairability matters.
Microphone and comfort troubleshooting
If the microphone is muffled or quiet
- Set the correct input device and level in Windows, Discord and the game.
- Place a boom mic near the corner of your mouth.
- Check the hardware mute or flip-to-mute position.
- Reduce overly aggressive noise suppression if it clips words.
- Confirm that a console adapter or TRRS/TRS mismatch is not being used.
If the headset works but the mic does not
Common causes are missing splitters, wrong Windows privacy permissions, an unrecognized USB adapter, a faulty cable or a muted control. Test the headset directly on another device before blaming software.
Fit, glasses and long sessions
Comfort depends on head size, clamp force, glasses, hair, pad depth and heat tolerance. Lightweight does not guarantee comfort. Glasses can break the ear-cup seal and create pressure points; leatherette pads can run hot. Small-head users may find some models loose, while RTINGS specifically flags the G435 as better suited to smaller heads. If clamp is excessive, gently stretching the headband over a box can help, but over-bending can damage it.
Surround, drivers and noise claims
Virtual 7.1 is software processing, not proof of better positional audio. Start with stereo, clear imaging, comfort and a usable microphone; enable surround only if it improves your particular game. Driver size—40mm or 50mm—describes a component, not sound quality. Tuning, enclosure, fit and software matter more.
Passive isolation comes from the earcups. Microphone noise reduction affects what other people hear. Active noise cancellation electronically reduces sound for the wearer. The BlackShark V2 X advertises passive isolation and a cardioid microphone, not ANC. Razer’s description.
Buying decision
- Pick wired unless freedom of movement is your primary requirement.
- Choose a boom mic for Discord, classes, calls or streaming.
- Match the connector and splitter to your PC before ordering.
- Use sale-only labels honestly and verify stock at checkout.
- Prioritize fit and microphone performance over RGB, driver-size claims and virtual surround.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are cheap gaming headsets good for music?
Some are enjoyable for casual listening, but many emphasize effects or footsteps. The Astro A10, for example, can recess dialogue and instruments, while the G432 has limited low bass. A balanced wired model such as the Arctis Nova 1 is a safer general-use choice.
Is wired better than wireless under $50?
Usually. Wired headsets avoid charging and pairing issues and commonly provide better microphones at this price. Wireless is worthwhile when movement and desk cleanliness matter more than those compromises.
Best Value
- ADVANCED PASSIVE NOISE CANCELLATION — sturdy closed earcups fully cover ears to prevent noise from leaking into the headset, with its cushions providing a closer seal for more sound isolation.
- 7.1 SURROUND SOUND FOR POSITIONAL AUDIO — Outfitted with custom-tuned 50 mm drivers, capable of software-enabled surround sound. *Only available on Windows 10 64-bit
- TRIFORCE TITANIUM 50MM HIGH-END SOUND DRIVERS — With titanium-coated diaphragms for added clarity, our new, cutting-edge proprietary design divides the driver into 3 parts for the individual tuning of highs, mids, and lowsproducing brighter, clearer audio with richer highs and more powerful lows
- LIGHTWEIGHT DESIGN WITH BREATHABLE FOAM EAR CUSHIONS — At just 240g, the BlackShark V2X is engineered from the ground up for maximum comfort
- RAZER HYPERCLEAR CARDIOID MIC — Improved pickup pattern ensures more voice and less noise as it tapers off towards the mic’s back and sides
Do I need a USB headset for PC?
No. 3.5mm is broadly compatible and driver-free. USB can provide software controls or bypass poor motherboard audio, but it is not automatically better.
Can these headsets work with PS5 or Xbox?
Many 3.5mm models can, but controls and bundles vary. Check the exact Recon 50X/50P or other platform suffix and confirm the console’s jack or adapter requirements.
Which under-$50 headset has the best microphone?
The Astro A10 is the microphone-focused recommendation based on RTINGS testing. Boom microphones generally outperform integrated microphones such as the G435’s.
Which is best for glasses?
No headset is universally best for glasses. Look for deep, soft cushions and moderate clamp, then use the retailer’s return policy because frames can create pressure and leaks.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Is 7.1 surround worth using?
Not automatically. It is virtual, software-dependent processing and can sound worse than stereo. Test both modes and keep the one that gives clearer separation in your games.
What if my PC has separate microphone and headphone ports?
Use the included PC splitter, or obtain a compatible TRRS-to-dual-TRS splitter. Without it, one part of the headset may not work.
Should I buy headphones without a microphone?
Only if you already own a separate microphone. This guide focuses on all-in-one headsets because most PC gaming and communication buyers need both.
Are refurbished headsets worth considering?
They can reduce cost, but they are excluded from the main ranking. Buy only with a trustworthy seller, a stated warranty and a return period, because battery, pads and cables are wear items.
The Bottom Line
For most PC buyers, start with the Logitech G432, choose the Razer BlackShark V2 X for competitive FPS, and consider the Logitech G435 only when wireless convenience outweighs its integrated-mic and fit compromises. Verify the price, stock, connector and platform variant immediately before checkout.
