To set up TikTok Pixel on a WordPress site, install TikTok’s official WordPress plugin, connect the right TikTok Business Center and Ads Manager accounts, then create or select a Pixel under the plugin’s Data Sharing settings. Once the base code is installed, configure the website events you need and verify that TikTok receives them. TikTok’s plugin guide was last updated in February 2025, so some interface labels may differ from the current screens.
What TikTok Pixel does—and what you need first
TikTok Pixel is code placed on a website to share configured website events with TikTok. Businesses can use those events to measure website traffic and campaign performance and to help optimize campaigns. The setup described here is account and software configuration; it does not require a physical product.
Before starting, TikTok’s WordPress guide lists these prerequisites:
- A TikTok for Business account
- A Business Center account linked to TikTok for Business
- A TikTok Ads Manager account associated with that Business Center
- A TikTok Pixel, which you can create during setup or select if one already exists
See TikTok’s Pixel overview and WordPress plugin instructions for its current guidance.

Install the TikTok plugin and connect your accounts
TikTok’s documented plugin flow moves from WordPress to TikTok account authorization, then to Business Center, Ads Manager, and Pixel selection. Use accounts that belong to the business running the campaigns; choosing an unrelated or inaccessible account can prevent you from managing the connection.
- Install and activate the plugin. In WordPress, open Plugins, search for TikTok, then install and activate the TikTok for Business app/plugin. Confirm that you are using the official plugin before connecting an account.
- Authorize TikTok for Business. Follow the plugin prompt to sign in to TikTok and authorize the connection. If your TikTok for Business account is already connected, TikTok’s guide says you can skip this authorization step.
- Connect Business Center. Select the Business Center account linked to your TikTok for Business account and connect it.
- Connect Ads Manager. Select and connect the associated TikTok Ads account.
- Create or select a Pixel. In the WordPress plugin, open Data Sharing. Create a new Pixel or choose an existing one that belongs to the intended account.
- Complete setup. TikTok’s guide says to ensure Advanced Matching is turned on, complete the displayed Pixel installation steps, and finish setup. Follow the current plugin prompts if their wording or order differs from the February 2025 guide.
Choose how to connect website data
A WordPress site can send web events through Pixel, Events API, or both. These are different implementation choices, not three steps every site must complete. TikTok’s July 2026 guidance recommends using Pixel together with Events API for a more reliable connection, fuller-funnel measurement, ad delivery, and audience creation; it also says the combined setup takes additional work to deduplicate events. Pixel alone is the lighter, easier-to-implement option. A direct Events API integration can require developer or technical marketing support, while a supported partner may simplify it. TikTok’s recommendation is not a requirement to add server-side tracking.
Rank #2
| Path | Implementation and skills | Coverage and follow-up |
|---|---|---|
| Pixel | Browser-based website code; TikTok describes it as lightweight and easier to implement. | Shares events from the browser. Verify that the base code and configured events fire as intended. |
| Events API | Direct implementation may require developers or technical marketing support; a partner can simplify the work. | Adds a server-side data connection. Configure and verify the events and parameters used by the integration. |
| Pixel + Events API | Requires the Pixel and Events API implementations to be coordinated. | TikTok recommends this combination, but matching events and parameters and handling deduplication add setup work. |
TikTok’s July 2026 general estimates—not WordPress-specific guarantees—put manual Pixel setup at “a few minutes,” direct Events API setup at 1–4 weeks, and partner setup at a time that varies and may be under an hour. See its comparison of website data connection methods for the scope and trade-offs.
When Google Tag Manager makes sense
If the site already uses Google Tag Manager (GTM), TikTok documents a separate route through Events Manager: choose GTM and select the relevant account, web container, and workspace. The GTM account needs a web container and Publish, Approve, Edit, and Read permissions. Event setup can use TikTok Event Builder or GTM data layer APIs; TikTok says the data layer API approach best fits sites already passing custom event data through a GTM data layer. Review pending GTM changes before publishing. Follow TikTok’s GTM setup guide.
When a commerce integration is relevant
TikTok’s partner directory lists WordPress for Pixel and WooCommerce for Pixel plus Events API. If your WordPress site runs WooCommerce, check the current partner options against your setup; a commerce integration is an alternative route, not a prerequisite for the ordinary WordPress plugin flow. TikTok’s web events partner directory lists the supported integrations.
Configure events after the base Pixel is installed
Install the Pixel base code before configuring events. Events tell TikTok which meaningful actions happen on the site; parameters add details about those actions. TikTok’s Event Builder instructions and Event Builder and Custom Code guide describe the available approaches.
Rank #4
Use Event Builder for common actions
Event Builder can set up events based on button clicks or URL visits. A button rule can track an action such as AddToCart; a URL rule can track a stable page associated with a meaningful outcome, such as an order confirmation page. TikTok may suggest events and parameters based on page elements. Choose a rule that corresponds to the action you actually want to measure, and make sure the page or button behavior is stable enough for that rule to remain useful.
Use Custom Code when the visual rules are not enough
Custom Code offers more control over event and parameter setup when the visual Event Builder cannot describe the required behavior. This can be useful for site-specific actions or values, but it calls for careful implementation and verification.

Include parameters required for your use case
- Value and Currency: TikTok says both are required for value optimization.
- Content ID and Content Type: TikTok says these can be required for Video Shopping Ads and catalog management. Make sure the Content ID sent by the site matches the relevant catalog item.
- Consistency across integrations: If using both Pixel and Events API, configure matching events and parameters across the website implementations.
Verify that TikTok receives the events
After completing setup, inspect Events Manager and use TikTok’s Pixel Helper Chrome extension or web diagnostics to check whether events fire and whether their data is present. Test the actions the site is supposed to report—for example, visiting a tracked confirmation page or clicking the configured button—and inspect the resulting event information. TikTok’s documentation describes these verification routes; the instructions do not guarantee that a particular WordPress site is correctly configured.
Troubleshoot events that do not appear or look wrong
TikTok identifies several common Event Builder issues. Check the relevant cause rather than adding another integration before confirming the existing setup.
- No event fires: Check that the Pixel base code is installed and correctly placed, then inspect whether the event rule matches the page visit or click behavior.
- Event fires without expected details: Check that the required event parameters are being sent.
- Catalog-related event does not match: Compare the site’s Content ID with the corresponding catalog ID, and confirm Content Type is included where required.
- Events are blocked: Check whether the site’s Content Security Policy (CSP) restricts the Pixel or its requests.
- Pixel and Events API both send the same action: Align the event names and parameters and configure deduplication so duplicate reports are handled correctly.
