WooCommerce has one base currency. Changing that setting does not convert existing product prices: a product set to 10 remains 10 until you edit it or add an extension. To show additional currencies, and especially to let customers pay in one, you need a multicurrency plugin and a payment gateway configured to accept the selected currency.
The seven options below are not a universal ranking. They cover different requirements—rate-based conversion, market-specific prices, geolocation, gateway routing and display-only conversion—so the right choice depends on your pricing policy and checkout stack.
What a WooCommerce multicurrency plugin must do
“Currency switcher” can mean two different things. A display converter changes the symbol and the amount shown to a visitor; it does not change the currency captured at checkout. A multicurrency checkout changes the order currency and requires a compatible payment gateway, taxes, shipping rules and extensions.
- Rate-based conversion: one base price is converted using an exchange rate. This is convenient, but market prices can move whenever rates update.
- Manual per-currency pricing: you enter a separate price for each currency. This gives control over local price points but requires ongoing maintenance.
- Hybrid pricing: some currencies use converted prices while others use manually entered prices.
Automatic location detection can select a currency from a visitor’s country, but a visible switcher is still useful so customers can override that choice. Test the complete checkout on a staging copy with real products, variations, coupons, shipping, taxes and every gateway you intend to offer. WooCommerce warns that theme, plugin and third-party extension integrations can still fail even when a plugin advertises compatibility.

1. WPML Multilingual & Multicurrency for WooCommerce
WPML’s WooCommerce Multilingual plugin can handle multicurrency even when the store uses only one language. Its documented modes include automatic exchange conversion, manual prices per currency, or a mixture of both. You can place a switcher in a block, widget or shortcode, select currencies by visitor location, and route payment gateways by currency.
The free WooCommerce Multilingual plugin is documented as handling multicurrency for a single-language store; the paid WPML package adds broader multilingual functionality. Confirm which package supplies each feature you plan to use before installation.
2. TIV Multi-Currency for WooCommerce
TIV is aimed at stores where the selected currency must continue through checkout: WooCommerce’s extension documentation says it uses converted prices during checkout so customers can pay in the currency they select.

- Metric converter
- 10-Digits with punctuation
Compatibility is the main qualification. WooCommerce states, “We have tested Multi-currency with many WordPress themes, plugins and third-party WooCommerce extensions, but some may still have compatibility issues.” Check the extension’s compatibility information against your theme, tax tools, shipping extensions and gateways, then run a staging checkout.

The WooCommerce Marketplace documentation describes GeoIP-based display, exchange-rate updates, currency switchers, and permissions for payment methods by currency. Those controls can be useful when a gateway supports only selected currencies.
The Marketplace listing showed a paid $99 one-year option at the time of the cited snapshot; pricing is volatile, so verify the current listing before buying. It also showed a 3.3 rating from four reviews and more than 400 active installs—too small a review base to treat as proof of quality or compatibility.

- 10 digit large angled LCD display
- Durable plastic keys
- Functions include: currency conversion functions, automatic tax keys, percent key, backspace key, 3 key independent memory, extra-large plus key, sign change, and automatic power down
- Sleek dark blue design
- Opertes on twin power (solar/battery backup)
4. Aelia Currency Switcher
Aelia is suited to merchants who want intentional regional price points rather than a number that changes with every exchange-rate update. Its product documentation says you can enter prices for each currency for products and coupons without relying on an exchange rate. Getting-started documentation also describes geolocation.
Manual prices mean you must maintain those values when your pricing, promotions or costs change. No independent test establishes how Aelia will behave with your particular theme and extensions, so validate the full order flow on staging.

WPExperts documents geolocation, rate APIs, custom product prices, geographic pricing zones and a checkout-currency option. Its setup notes include MaxMind requirements and cache exclusions; incorrectly cached currency pages can show one visitor another visitor’s prices.

CURCY is a WordPress.org-listed multicurrency plugin. The directory snapshot dated September 25, 2026 showed version 2.2.17, 20,000-plus active installations, a WordPress 6.0-or-newer requirement, PHP 7.4-or-newer, and testing up to WordPress 7.1.2.
Those figures describe that dated directory entry, not a guarantee for your installation. The cited information does not establish a complete, comparable list of checkout, gateway-routing, rate-source or manual-pricing capabilities, so verify those features in the current plugin documentation before selecting it.

7. WooCommerce Currency Converter Widget
WooCommerce’s own Currency Converter Widget is the simplest option in this list, but it is not a multicurrency checkout plugin. It lets shoppers view converted amounts; it does not change the currency charged. Use it only when your store still takes payment in its single base currency.
If customers must pay in another currency, WooCommerce explicitly says you need a multicurrency extension or plugin rather than this display-only widget.
How to choose among them
Choose rate conversion when
You want one maintained base price and accept that local amounts will follow exchange-rate movements. Check the rate provider, update schedule, rounding and whether you can set a markup or override individual prices.
Choose manual prices when
You set different psychological, tax-inclusive or market-specific price points. Confirm that the plugin supports manual values for products, variations, coupons and sale prices—not just a currency symbol.
Choose gateway routing when
You operate gateways with different currency support. Verify that the plugin can enable or disable each gateway by currency and that the gateway account itself is configured for those currencies.
Choose geolocation carefully
Location-based selection is convenient, but VPNs, mobile networks and cached pages can produce the wrong country. Keep a manual switcher available and exclude currency-sensitive pages from full-page caching as the plugin’s documentation requires.
Quick Recap
Staging checklist before launch
- Set the WooCommerce base currency and confirm that existing product numbers were not silently converted.
- Install the candidate plugin on staging and configure each currency, rate source or manual price.
- Test the switcher on product, cart and checkout pages, including logged-in and guest sessions.
- Place test orders with every gateway, coupon, shipping method, tax rule, variable product and refund path.
- Inspect the currency stored in orders, emails, invoices, analytics and accounting exports.
- Test cache behavior and geolocation from more than one country, then document a rollback plan.
