To add a free shipping bar in WooCommerce, first configure the actual Free shipping method in the shipping zone that applies to your customers. Then configure a progress-bar extension to show the right threshold and message. The bar communicates eligibility; it does not grant free shipping by itself.
1. Configure WooCommerce’s free shipping offer
Set up the shipping rule before choosing a bar. In your WordPress dashboard, go to WooCommerce > Settings > Shipping > Shipping zones, edit the relevant zone, and add the Free shipping method. WooCommerce’s Free Shipping documentation describes three eligibility options:
- No requirement: the method is available without a minimum spend or coupon condition.
- A valid free shipping coupon: customers need to apply an eligible coupon.
- A minimum order amount: customers must reach the amount you set.
Give the method a clear name customers will recognize, and enter the minimum amount if your offer has one. Check every shipping zone where the offer should apply; a rule in one zone does not establish the same rule for other zones.
2. Choose a progress bar and configure it
For a single free-shipping goal, WooCommerce’s Shipping Progress Bar extension documents its settings under WooCommerce > Settings > Shipping Progress Bar. There, configure the threshold, the messages for shoppers who have not yet qualified and those who have, and where the bar should appear. See the Shipping Progress Bar documentation for the extension’s setup and placement options.

The extension also documents a [shipping_progress_bar] shortcode for manual placement. Use it where your theme or page builder allows shortcode content, then check that the resulting bar appears in the intended location.
3. Make the displayed goal match shipping eligibility
Compare the bar’s target with the Free shipping method configured for the customer’s shipping zone. The Shipping Progress Bar documentation says the extension can detect the customer’s zone and use its applicable threshold. If your zones have different minimums, test with addresses in each zone rather than assuming one displayed amount works for all customers.

Coupon-based offers need particular care: an offer requiring a valid coupon is not the same as an automatic minimum-spend offer. The extension documentation describes a calculation setting for coupon behavior. Check that setting and test the message with the relevant coupon applied so the bar does not imply eligibility under the wrong conditions.
4. Pick a placement that fits the shopping journey
Choose where the bar is most useful: product pages can tell shoppers about the goal while browsing, while the cart can show how much more to add. Checkout placement can reinforce the offer near purchase, but it should not obscure the order details or conflict with the checkout layout. The extension documents page targeting and display options; the live result depends on your theme and checkout setup.

After setting placement, preview the storefront on desktop and mobile. Change quantities and cart contents, and apply or remove a coupon where relevant. Confirm that the amount remaining and the qualified message update as expected.

Extensions vary in how they source the goal and where they display it. Choose based on your store’s actual zones, coupon rules, page type, and layout rather than feature labels alone.
