Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFor a single page you want to keep and read offline, use SingleFile: it saves the page and its resources into one HTML file, and its CLI supports command-line capture. For a growing, self-hosted archive with multiple output formats, scheduled imports, and collection management, consider ArchiveBox. They solve different problems: a portable page copy is not the same as a managed archive.
Choose a tool by what you need to keep
| Need | Best fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| One page in a file you can open offline | SingleFile | Combines a web page and resources such as images, stylesheets, fonts, and frames into one HTML file. |
| Command-line creation of a single-page HTML copy | SingleFile CLI | Provides command-line capture for Windows, macOS, and Linux without manually using the browser extension. |
| A self-hosted collection, multiple capture formats, or recurring imports | ArchiveBox | Offers a CLI, REST API, browser extension, web interface, Python API access, and scheduled imports, with several types of capture output. |
| A visual record of a page rather than a portable HTML copy | ArchiveBox screenshot or PDF output; ScreenshotNeo for API-driven screenshots | These workflows capture visual output. A screenshot is not a substitute for an HTML archive when you need page resources or text. |
For either product, treat documented features as capabilities, not a guarantee that every site will be captured completely. Interactive behavior, authenticated views, and content loaded only after later interaction may not be preserved. Test representative pages before relying on a workflow for important material.
Save one web page as a single offline HTML file
Use the SingleFile browser extension for a manual capture
SingleFile is designed for a one-page copy: it saves the document and resources including images, stylesheets, fonts, and frames into one HTML file. Its official project page lists browser extensions for Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari, and describes the software as free and open source. Install the extension from the appropriate browser extension source linked by the project, open the page, and use the extension to save it. Exact browser menus can vary by browser and extension version.
SingleFile also documents options to load deferred images and iframes before saving, batch-save URLs, and send captures to destinations such as GitHub, Amazon S3, Google Drive, or WebDAV. These options can help with pages that reveal content as they load or with a repeatable destination, but they do not guarantee preservation of every script-driven interaction or server-only response.

Use SingleFile CLI when capture needs to be repeatable
The SingleFile project documents a command-line interface for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Consult its official CLI documentation for current installation instructions and arguments: SingleFile project. CLI packaging and commands can change, so use the instructions for your operating system rather than assuming a command or package name. A CLI is useful when you want to invoke the same capture process from a script or process a batch of URLs; validate the resulting HTML with pages representative of your target sites.
Build a self-hosted web-page archive with ArchiveBox
What the collection model gives you
ArchiveBox is a self-hosted application for collecting URLs and retaining multiple forms of capture. Its documentation describes access through a CLI, REST API, browser extension, web interface, and Python API. It accepts URLs and supports scheduled imports. Each added URL gets a snapshot folder; documented artifacts include an index and metadata, SingleFile HTML, a wget clone, headless-Chrome PDF, screenshot and DOM output, article text, and WARC output.
This is a better fit than a lone HTML file when you expect a collection to grow, want different representations of a page, or need recurring imports. Select outputs for the use you actually have: HTML for offline browsing, a screenshot for visual reference, PDF for a document-like rendering, metadata or DOM for processing, or WARC when an archival container is useful.
Use the browser extension through an ArchiveBox server
The ArchiveBox browser extension submits the current page or URLs to an ArchiveBox server. Its documented uses include saving a current page and importing browser history and bookmarks; it can also be configured for local screenshots and MHTML copies. This is not a standalone archive: the server must be accessible and the extension needs API-key configuration. The extension documentation says local capture artifacts are stored in extension-local storage and removed after 30 days by default unless that behavior is changed. Check the extension’s current documentation before depending on local artifacts for retention.

Plan storage and backups around the archive you create
ArchiveBox documents ordinary files and folders as its storage approach, alongside formats such as HTML, PDF, PNG, JSON, SQLite, and WARC. Estimate storage from a sample of your own captures and retention policy; the documentation cited here does not establish a universally suitable drive size or backup configuration. Keep a separate backup if the collection matters, and verify that it can be restored. A successful capture in a local folder is not itself a backup.
Understand HTML, screenshots, PDF, and WARC
Single-file HTML: portable reading copy
A single-file capture packages a page and its resources into one HTML document, making it convenient to store, share, or open offline in a browser. It is generally the closest match when your goal is “save this page as one file.” It should not be treated as a perfect interactive clone: server-side features, later network requests, and site behavior may not survive in a static file.
Screenshots and PDFs: visual evidence
A screenshot preserves the rendered appearance at capture time, while a PDF provides a document-style representation. Neither format preserves the full page as a functioning website. For a collection, ArchiveBox documents screenshot and PDF outputs; for API-driven screenshots, ScreenshotNeo is an option described below.
WARC: a structured archival container
WARC is an archival container format with metadata-bearing records, not a promise that a site can be captured or replayed in full. The Internet Archive’s WARC Documentation, Release 0.1, dated February 7, 2017, describes WARC as an extension of ARC that adds flexibility for metadata and named headers: Internet Archive WARC documentation. Choose WARC when the format suits your preservation or processing workflow, and retain another representation if readers also need easy offline browsing.

Automate screenshots with ScreenshotNeo
If your task is specifically to request rendered screenshots from code or an AI agent, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server from Yorker Media. It is not a replacement for a self-hosted multi-format archive such as ArchiveBox or a single-file HTML workflow: it returns PNG, JPEG, or WebP screenshots or a PDF. Its capture can accept cookie/consent banners as a visitor and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each of those steps can be turned off. Bot checks/CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and responses include X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers indicating the outcome.
Make one screenshot request with cURL
Replace the example URL with the page you want to capture and supply your API key. This GET request writes the response body to shot.webp:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request parameters and response details. The example requests WebP output by filename; configure output options as needed using the documented API parameters.
Python and Node.js examples
Python, using the supplied requests library:
import requests
r = requests.get(
"https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot",
params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"},
timeout=90,
)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
Node.js using the built-in fetch API:
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
The Node.js example makes the request but does not save the response to disk; read the response body and write it as bytes if you need a local file. Protect API keys in environment variables or a secrets manager rather than committing them to source control.
Options for tailored captures
ScreenshotNeo documents 63 options. Relevant controls include full-page capture with lazy images loaded, a CSS selector for capturing one element, dark mode, 12 device presets or a custom viewport, retina scale, and PDF page size, margins, landscape orientation, and page ranges. For page preparation it supports custom CSS and JavaScript, clicking an element, hiding selectors, waiting for a selector, delay, or network idle, and blocking ads, trackers, requests, or resource types.

Screenshot API parameter names used by other providers also work, which can ease migration. Check the documentation for exact parameter names, defaults, and interactions between options.
Use the MCP server with an AI client
ScreenshotNeo provides an MCP server for AI agents, including Claude, Cursor, and any MCP client. Its documented tools are take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf. This can put screenshot capture or PDF generation into an agent workflow without writing a separate browser automation script; configure the MCP connection according to the current product documentation.
Plans and billing
| Plan | Included shots per month | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Free | 1,000 | $0; no card |
| Starter | 3,000 | $5 |
| Growth | 15,000 | $15 |
| Pro | 60,000 | $39 |
| Scale | 250,000 | $99 |
| Business | 1,000,000 | $249 |
These are the stated monthly plan allowances and prices; yearly billing gives two months free. Every feature is available on every plan. Use the response billing headers and usage API to monitor actual usage rather than treating every request as a billable shot.
Or skip the browser setup
Use the one-call API example above when you need a rendered screenshot rather than a self-hosted archive or single-file HTML copy. Cookie banners, popups, and chat widgets are removed before the shot; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed. An MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots. The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card, and paid plans start at $5 for 3,000.

Troubleshoot incomplete or failed captures
The saved HTML is missing images or embedded content
- For SingleFile, try its documented options to load deferred images and iframes before saving.
- For pages that reveal content only after interaction, trigger the needed state before capture where the workflow permits it; do not assume a static copy includes later content.
- Test the target pages directly. Neither tool’s feature list establishes universal capture completeness.
An ArchiveBox browser-extension save does not reach the archive
- Confirm the ArchiveBox server is accessible from the browser.
- Check that the extension is configured with the correct server and API key.
- Review the extension’s current documentation if local artifacts or server submissions behave differently than expected.
The capture is blank, blocked, or times out
- For ScreenshotNeo, inspect
X-Page-VerdictandX-Billedin the response to identify how the request was classified. - For browser-based tools, retry a representative URL and consider whether the page depends on sign-in, a bot check, or content loaded only after interaction.
- Do not interpret a screenshot or archive that failed to render as proof the original page was empty.
The page looks right but cannot be used offline as expected
- A screenshot is a visual record, not a navigable website.
- A PDF is a document representation, not an interactive page.
- Use a single-file HTML capture for portable browsing, or retain several ArchiveBox outputs when the collection needs distinct use cases.
Reliability, workflow, and cost decisions
For a handful of pages, the browser extension or SingleFile CLI keeps setup simple. For recurring imports and a collection you control, ArchiveBox introduces server setup and ongoing storage and backup responsibility in exchange for a multi-format archive workflow. For screenshot requests in an application, an API avoids managing browser capture infrastructure yourself, but it produces screenshot/PDF outputs rather than a complete self-hosted collection.
Best Value
- Scanner type: Document
- Connectivity technology: USB
- With Auto Scan Mode, the scanner automatically detects what you're scanning
- Digitize documents and images
Before committing valuable material, run a small pilot against the kinds of pages you actually need: ordinary articles, pages with deferred media, authenticated content if relevant, and pages with interactive elements. Compare the saved artifact with the live page, decide what “good enough” means for your use, and retain more than one format when a single representation would be insufficient. No independent controlled comparison or universal fidelity guarantee is established for these tools.
Frequently asked questions
Can a saved web page preserve its original interactivity?
Not reliably as a general rule. A static HTML capture may omit server-only behavior or later network responses, and screenshots and PDFs are visual or document outputs rather than interactive copies. Test the specific site and workflow.
Is WARC interchangeable with a single HTML file?
No. A single HTML file is convenient for opening a page offline; WARC is a record-oriented archival container with metadata. Pick the format based on how the archive will be read and processed.
