Tap the button repeatedly, or press and hold it, until you have the section you need; tap outside the toolbar to finish. Samsung saves the result as one image in Gallery. The control is designed for scrollable webpages, articles, chats and app screens, not fixed content. See Samsung’s US support instructions for the current terminology.
What Samsung calls a long screenshot
Samsung’s name for a scrolling screenshot is Scroll capture. It is a post-capture control: you do not select it before taking the first frame. The phone captures the visible screen, scrolls downward, stitches the additional sections into the same image and keeps extending it each time you use the control.
Labels and button placement can differ by Galaxy model, Android/One UI version, carrier and region. The procedure below applies to Galaxy phones that show Scroll capture and to content that can actually scroll.
Take a scrolling screenshot step by step
- Open the content. Go to the webpage, article, chat or app screen you want to save. Scroll to the point where the capture should begin. The page must extend beyond one display and allow scrolling.
- Take the first screenshot. Press the Side/Power button and Volume Down button at the same time, then release them. Do not hold either button after the screenshot animation; holding them can open the power menu or change the volume instead.
- Tap Scroll capture. When the screenshot toolbar appears, tap the icon showing two downward arrows. The phone automatically moves down and adds the next section.
- Extend the image. Tap the same icon again for another increment. If you need to move much farther, press and hold the icon; release when the capture reaches the desired point. You can continue until the page no longer provides additional scrollable content or the phone stops extending the image.
- Finish. Tap anywhere outside the toolbar. The completed long screenshot is saved automatically.
Samsung describes Scroll capture as a way to save a whole scrollable screen, such as a web page or article, as one image. Its Saudi support page was updated April 23, 2026; the regional instructions show the same workflow.

Find, edit and share the long image
Open the saved file
Open Gallery > Albums > Screenshots. Samsung also documents My Files > Images as an alternate location. The long capture appears as a single image alongside ordinary screenshots.
Make adjustments
In Gallery, open the image and use the edit controls to crop unwanted sections, draw or add text, apply the available adjustments, and save a copy. Cropping is useful when the page includes navigation or a blank ending after the final scroll.
Send or archive it
Use Gallery’s share button to send the image to a messaging app, email, cloud drive or another destination. A very tall image may be harder for a recipient to view than a PDF or a series of ordinary screenshots, so crop it to the relevant section before sharing when practical.

- Open Settings.
- Tap Advanced features.
- Open Screenshots and screen recorder. On some Galaxy software, this menu is labeled Screen capture.
- Turn on Show toolbar after capturing.
Take another normal screenshot after changing the setting. The Scroll capture control is part of this toolbar, so it cannot be selected from the camera or Gallery before the initial capture.
Confirm that the screen can scroll
Samsung only makes Scroll capture available when scrolling is possible. A home screen, a single photograph, a dialog box or a page that already fits in one display may not produce the control. Try a longer webpage or article and verify that you can swipe through additional content before taking the screenshot.
Check for app restrictions
Some apps and screens disable screenshots for privacy, security or copyright reasons. A banking app, protected video service or work profile may show a black result, a warning or no screenshot at all. Scroll capture cannot override an application’s restriction.
Account for software and model differences
Menu names, button locations and feature availability vary with model, Android/One UI release, carrier and region. Samsung’s Canada support page notes the same variability. Install the updates offered for your phone and check the exact model’s manual if the setting names differ.

Choosing the right capture method

No accessory is required for the standard button method. Gesture or S Pen workflows, where offered by a particular model, still depend on that model’s software and do not make a blocked screen capturable.
Quality, length and privacy considerations
There is no universal published size limit
Samsung support pages do not publish one universal maximum pixel height or file size for Scroll capture. The achievable length varies with the content, and Samsung notes that captures may be resized before saving. If a very long page will not extend farther, capture it in logical sections and share those sections separately.
Watch for dynamic pages
Pages that load more content while you scroll can change during capture. Wait for the section to finish loading before tapping Scroll capture again. If an article inserts an advertisement or expands a panel between increments, stop, crop the result and recapture the affected section if necessary.
Protect sensitive information
A long image can include account numbers, private messages and content far below the starting point. Review the entire image before sharing, and crop or mark out sensitive details in Gallery.

Troubleshooting common failures
The screenshot toolbar never appears
- Enable Show toolbar after capturing under Settings > Advanced features > Screenshots and screen recorder (or Screen capture).
- Take the button combination as a quick simultaneous press and release.
- Restart the phone if the toolbar setting is enabled but still does not appear, then test again in a scrollable webpage.
Scroll capture is greyed out or missing
- Confirm that the current screen scrolls beyond one display.
- Try a different app to distinguish a page limitation from a phone-wide setting.
- Check whether the app or work profile prohibits screenshots.
The image stops before the end
- Tap or hold the downward-arrow control again; one tap adds only the next increment.
- Wait for lazy-loaded content to appear before extending.
- If the page has reached its end, finish the capture and take a second image for any separate section.
The result is black or shows a warning
This normally indicates an app-level privacy, security or copyright restriction. Use the app’s own export, download or share command instead; changing the screenshot toolbar cannot bypass that protection.
The buttons open another function
Press Side/Power and Volume Down together and release immediately. A long press can invoke the power menu or alter volume. If a case makes either button hard to press, remove it temporarily while testing.

Is there a Samsung-documented maximum height for a Scroll capture image?
No universal pixel-height or file-size maximum is published in the cited Samsung support pages. The achievable length depends on the content, and captures may be resized before saving.
Can Scroll capture record a screen that an app deliberately protects?
No. Apps can block screenshots for privacy, security or copyright reasons. Use an export or sharing function supplied by that app instead.
