How to Hide Prices in WooCommerce (Guests, Logged-In Users, and Wholesale Roles)

To hide WooCommerce prices, use an extension that matches the audience and outcome you need. Catalog Visibility Options provides store-wide settings for showing prices to everyone, hiding them from everyone, or showing them only to logged-in users. In its restricted modes, Add to Cart is disabled automatically. If guests should see a private catalog, a login prompt, or a quote-request option, use Hide Prices & Private Store. For wholesale or role-specific pricing, use the targeting controls described in WooCommerce’s Wholesale for WooCommerce store-owner guide.

Choose the visitor experience before hiding prices

“Hide the price” can mean several different things. Decide what an unauthorised visitor should see and whether that visitor must be prevented from purchasing.

Requirement Suitable WooCommerce approach What visitors experience Purchase effect documented by WooCommerce
Hide prices across the whole store, but allow approved users to see them Catalog Visibility Options Prices are visible only to logged-in users when that mode is selected Add to Cart is automatically disabled for logged-out visitors in the restricted price modes
Hide prices and replace them with a message Hide Prices & Private Store Configurable text can replace the price; the store can also remove Add to Cart Price-hiding mode removes Add to Cart
Hide the shop and product pages from guests Hide Prices & Private Store Guests cannot browse the catalog in the private-store mode Access is controlled by the selected guest-access mode
Require visitors to sign in before entering the site Hide Prices & Private Store The website can force login instead of exposing the public catalog Only the access permitted by the extension remains available
Collect enquiries instead of displaying a price Hide Prices & Private Store quote-request mode Visitors are directed toward a quote request rather than a displayed price Use the quote workflow instead of normal price-led purchasing
Hide selected wholesale prices from retail customers Wholesale for WooCommerce Rules can target products, categories, or user roles; wholesale products can be hidden from visitors and non-wholesale customers Depends on the roles and product-visibility rules you configure

Show prices only to logged-in users

This is the clearest option when guests may browse products but must create an account or be approved before seeing prices.

  1. Install and activate WooCommerce’s Catalog Visibility Options extension.
  2. In WordPress, open WooCommerce > Settings > Visibility Options.
  3. Set the price visibility option to Enabled for Logged In Users.
  4. Review the optional replacement text for the hidden price and Add to Cart button, then save the settings.
  5. Open a shop archive and a single product page in a logged-out browser window, and repeat the check while signed in with an approved account.

WooCommerce documents three store-wide price states in this extension: Enabled, Disabled, and Enabled for Logged In Users. The last two restricted states also disable Add to Cart automatically, so this is not merely a visual change to the price label. See the official configuration reference for the extension’s current labels and behavior.

Hide prices for every visitor

Choose the global Disabled price state in Catalog Visibility Options when no visitor should see catalog prices. Add to Cart is disabled in this mode, and the extension supports replacement text for the price and button.

This setting is appropriate for a catalogue used to start conversations, obtain custom quotations, or publish products before commercial terms are agreed. It does not, by itself, describe a private website or remove products from the catalog; select a private-store mode when guests should not browse products at all.

Hide prices from guests with a private catalog or quote flow

Hide Prices & Private Store separates four guest-access outcomes:

  • Hide prices: keep products visible while removing prices and Add to Cart, with configurable replacement text.
  • Hide shop and products: keep the catalog out of guest view.
  • Hide the website and force login: require authentication before visitors can access the site.
  • Request quotes: replace normal price display with a quote-oriented workflow.

Select the mode that matches the business process. Hiding a number while leaving a normal purchase path visible is a different requirement from making the entire catalog private.

Hide wholesale prices from retail customers

Role-based stores need narrower rules than a single global switch. WooCommerce’s Wholesale for WooCommerce store-owner guide documents a Hide Price setting that can be applied to selected products, product categories, or user roles. Its documentation also describes hiding wholesale products from visitors and non-wholesale customers.

  1. Create or confirm the wholesale and retail customer roles used by your store.
  2. Identify whether the rule applies to an individual product, a category, or every product assigned to a wholesale role.
  3. Configure the relevant Hide Price and product-visibility settings in the wholesale extension.
  4. Test the same product as a logged-out visitor, a retail customer, and each wholesale role that should receive a price.

For more granular B2B rules, WooCommerce’s Extend B2B – Catalog documentation describes targeting by product or category, customer, role, and geographic rules, including rule priority. Use those controls when one global guest/login switch cannot express your sales policy.

Price hiding is not the same as catalog hiding

  • Price hiding: products remain discoverable, but the price is replaced or omitted.
  • Catalog hiding: shop archives or product pages are withheld from the selected audience.
  • Forced login: visitors must authenticate before entering the site or catalog.
  • Quote requests: the visitor is offered an enquiry path instead of a normal price-and-cart flow.

Choose based on whether discovery, authentication, or sales qualification is the primary goal. The extensions document these as separate behaviors rather than interchangeable labels.

Verify the result on every storefront surface

After saving a rule, test each audience in a private browser window and in a real account for every relevant role.

  • Check shop and category archives, not only the product page.
  • Open variable products and products with sale prices to confirm that no alternate price remains visible.
  • Confirm the Add to Cart button, quantity controls, mini-cart, and checkout behavior for each audience.
  • Check login, registration, replacement-message, and quote-request links from a guest session.
  • Clear or bypass page caches while testing, then retest with the cache enabled.
  • Review any custom theme, headless storefront, feed, or integration that renders product data independently of the standard WooCommerce templates.

Important limitation: storefront hiding is not proven data secrecy

The cited WooCommerce documentation establishes what the storefront displays and how Add to Cart is controlled. It does not establish that a hidden price is removed from every REST or other API response, cache layer, product feed, structured-data field, or custom integration. If confidential pricing is the requirement, inspect those channels for your specific hosting, caching, theme, and integrations rather than assuming frontend hiding protects every output.

A practical decision checklist

  • Everyone should see prices: leave price visibility enabled.
  • Only authenticated customers should see prices: use Catalog Visibility Options with Enabled for Logged In Users.
  • No one should see prices: use the extension’s Disabled mode and configure replacement text if needed.
  • Guests should not browse products: choose the private shop/products mode.
  • Guests must sign in first: choose forced-login mode.
  • Sales staff should quote instead of publish prices: choose quote-request behavior.
  • Retail and wholesale audiences need different rules: configure role-, product-, category-, or geographic targeting and verify each role.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does WooCommerce hide prices for guests by itself?

The documented store-wide controls are provided by the Catalog Visibility Options extension; they are not presented as a universal WooCommerce core setting.

Will hiding a price also disable Add to Cart?

Yes, Catalog Visibility Options documents automatic Add to Cart disabling when prices are disabled or limited to logged-in users. Hide Prices & Private Store also removes Add to Cart in its price-hiding mode.

Can I show different prices to wholesale and retail customers?

Yes. Wholesale for WooCommerce documents price-hiding and visibility rules for selected products, categories, and user roles; configure and test the roles your store uses.
