Firefox can capture the whole page but downloads PNG files, so you must convert that PNG. A tool that explicitly advertises JPG export, such as the GoFullPage Chrome extension, can produce JPG directly; its store listing is a vendor claim and has not been independently tested here.
What “whole webpage” means
A normal screenshot records only the pixels currently visible in the browser window. A whole-page, full-page or entire-page capture extends below the viewport and combines the page’s scrollable content into one tall image. It is useful for archiving an article, documenting a design, reviewing a landing page, or sharing a page without sending a link.
JPG and PNG are different output formats. Firefox’s documented screenshot workflow saves PNG, not JPG. If your destination specifically requires .jpg or .jpeg, plan on a conversion step unless the capture tool offers JPG export itself.
Method 1: Firefox’s built-in full-page screenshot
Firefox documents screenshots of either the visible area or the full webpage. The built-in route is free and does not require an extension, but the downloaded file is PNG.

- Open the webpage in Firefox and wait for the content you need to appear. If the page loads sections only after scrolling, scroll through it once first so those sections have a chance to render.
- Open Firefox’s screenshot command. Depending on your Firefox version, this is available from the page context menu or the browser’s screenshot/Page Actions control. Menu wording and location can change between releases.
- Choose the option labelled Full Page (or equivalent), rather than the visible-area selection.
- Preview the capture and choose Download. Mozilla’s help says the image is downloaded as a PNG to your normal downloads folder.
- Open that PNG in an image editor and use Export, Save As or an equivalent command to choose JPEG/JPG. Set the quality you need, then confirm the file name ends in
.jpgor.jpeg.
Do not rename page.png to page.jpg; changing the extension does not convert the image data. JPEG also does not preserve transparency, so an editor may ask you to choose a background color when converting a transparent PNG.
Method 2: Firefox Developer Tools
Firefox’s source documentation also describes an entire-page screenshot through Developer Tools and documents the --fullpage option. This is useful when the regular screenshot control is unavailable or when you want a repeatable command.
- Open Developer Tools for the page.
- Use the Developer Tools screenshot command and include the
--fullpageoption, following the syntax shown in Firefox’s documentation for your release. - Save the generated image, then convert it from PNG to JPG in an image editor if JPEG is required.
The cited Firefox documentation establishes full-page capture and the --fullpage option, but not JPG output. Treat the result as PNG unless your own Firefox build clearly offers another format.
Method 3: A browser extension that exports JPG
The GoFullPage listing in the Chrome Web Store advertises full-page capture and JPG export. That makes it a direct option when you need a JPEG without a separate conversion step.

- Install GoFullPage from the Chrome Web Store and review the permissions requested by the current listing.
- Open the target page, then activate the extension from Chrome’s Extensions menu.
- Start a full-page capture and wait while the extension scrolls or otherwise assembles the page.
- Choose its JPG export control if the current version presents one, then verify the downloaded file opens as a JPEG.
The JPG and full-page capabilities are claims in the vendor’s store listing, not the result of an independent test. Extensions can also be affected by pages that require a login, block scripted scrolling, show consent dialogs, or render content only after interaction.

Converting a full-page PNG to JPG correctly
Any image editor that can open PNG and export JPEG can perform the conversion. Use this sequence:
- Open the full-page PNG.
- Choose Export or Save As, select JPEG or JPG, and pick a destination.
- Choose an image quality. Higher quality keeps text and fine edges clearer but creates a larger file; lower quality produces a smaller file with more visible compression.
- If the PNG has transparency, flatten it onto a solid background before exporting because JPEG has no alpha channel.
- Reopen the exported file or inspect its properties to confirm that it is actually JPEG and that the full page is present.
Very tall pages can produce extremely large pixel dimensions. If an editor refuses to open or export the file, capture shorter sections, reduce the image dimensions before export, or use a tool that can resize during capture. Resizing after capture can make small webpage text harder to read, so keep the original PNG as an archive.
Common problems and fixes
Only the visible screen was saved
You selected a visible-area or region capture instead of Full Page. Repeat the capture and choose the full-page option. A browser window’s operating-system screenshot shortcut normally does not include content below the viewport.

The file is PNG when you need JPG
That is expected from Firefox’s documented workflow. Convert the PNG through an image editor, or use a capture tool whose current listing explicitly offers JPG export.
Images or sections are missing
Modern pages often lazy-load images and other components. Wait for the page to finish loading, scroll through the page once, dismiss obstructing dialogs, and capture again. A section that appears only after a click may require that interaction before capture. If the content is behind a login, keep the session active and check that the capture tool is permitted to access it.
A cookie banner, newsletter box or chat bubble covers the page
Close the overlay before capturing. If it returns on every load, an automated capture service that handles consent and removes common overlays can produce a cleaner result than a manual browser capture.
The capture stops, freezes or creates a blank image
Reload the page, wait for network activity to settle, and try a shorter page or a private window with extensions disabled. Script-heavy pages, bot checks, cross-origin frames and pages that change while scrolling can defeat browser extensions. Save the page in sections if a single image exceeds your editor’s memory.

The JPG looks blurry
JPEG compression and resizing both reduce detail. Export at a higher quality, avoid unnecessary downscaling, and keep the original PNG for text-heavy material. If the image is for printing, capture at a larger viewport or scale and resize only after checking the final dimensions.
The page changed between captures
Record the URL, date and time, and capture after the page reaches the same state each time. Disable animations where your capture method allows it, or use a fixed delay/wait condition in an automated service.

Reliability and cost
For browser captures, reliability depends on the page, extensions, login state and available memory. An API is easier to run from scheduled jobs or CI because the request can specify waits, cookies, headers, viewport and resource blocking. Check the response headers and retain failed-request logs instead of assuming every HTTP response is a usable image.

- Confirm that you need the entire page, not just the visible viewport.
