On Windows, Task Scheduler supports a minute schedule using schtasks /create /sc minute /mo 10; that command schedules a task but does not capture the screen by itself. The steps below show how to schedule your own capture script and explain when a remote website screenshot API is a better fit.
First decide what needs to be captured
A desktop screenshot records the screen shown in a local computer session. A website screenshot service renders a URL remotely and returns an image or PDF. These are different workflows: use the first for an application window or desktop, and the second when you need a recurring record of a web page.
- Local desktop: Use an operating-system scheduler plus a capture tool or script. You control the local files and capture context.
- Website URL: Use a scheduler that calls a screenshot API at the desired times. The service captures the rendered page, not the computer’s screen.
For either approach, decide where files should go, how filenames will be made unique, and whether the computer or capture process will be available at each scheduled run. Desktop capture can depend on an active logged-in session and system capture permissions.
Windows: schedule a desktop screenshot every 10 minutes
Use a two-stage setup: prepare a command or script that captures the current screen and writes an image file, then schedule that command. The exact capture command depends on the tool and Windows environment you choose; the scheduling command below does not supply one.

1. Prepare and test the capture script
Create or choose a capture script that takes the screen and saves the result in a folder you control. Test it by running it manually from the same Windows account that will run the scheduled task. Confirm that it creates a valid image and that each run uses a distinct filename, preferably one containing the date and time.
Before scheduling, check that the output folder exists and that the account running the task can write to it. If the capture is meant to show a particular application, open that application and confirm that the capture method records the intended screen or window. The scheduler cannot make a hidden, locked, or inaccessible desktop appear in a screenshot.
2. Create a task with the ten-minute interval
Microsoft documents /sc minute for a minute schedule and /mo for its recurrence interval. To create a task from an elevated Command Prompt or other appropriate task-creation context, substitute your actual task name and script path:
schtasks /create /tn "Screenshot every 10 minutes" /sc minute /mo 10 /tr "C:Scriptscapture-screen.cmd"

The /tr value is the action Windows runs. Point it at a working script or command that performs the capture; do not leave it as the example path. Microsoft says the minute modifier can be from 1 to 1439 minutes, and its documentation illustrates a 20-minute schedule. For this task, /mo 10 sets the interval to ten minutes. 3. Configure the task’s run conditions
For desktop capture, the task’s account and session matter as much as the interval. In Task Scheduler, inspect the task’s properties after creating it. Choose settings that let it run under the intended account, and avoid assuming that a task configured to run without an interactive desktop can capture what a logged-in user sees. Whether a capture works unattended depends on the capture method, Windows configuration, and session state.
Also review conditions such as idle-only execution, power requirements, and whether a missed run should be made up. A task that is permitted to run only while idle or only on AC power may not produce a screenshot every ten minutes in ordinary use.
4. Verify the schedule and output
- Run the task manually once and verify that a new image appears in the expected folder.
- Wait through at least one scheduled interval and check that another uniquely named image appears.
- Open the output files to confirm they show the intended desktop or application rather than a lock screen, an empty session, or an error view.
- Check the task’s last-run result and history if no file appears; confirm its action path, account, permissions, and conditions.
macOS and Linux: the interval is only one part of the job
A repeating scheduler can launch a command on macOS or Linux, but a scheduled command alone does not establish that desktop capture will work. The capture utility, screen-recording or accessibility permissions, display session, and destination-folder access all vary by operating system and configuration. In particular, an unattended process may not have access to the same interactive display as a logged-in user.

Use a capture tool whose current documentation explicitly supports your OS version and target session. First run its command manually from the account and session that will own the scheduled job; only then configure a ten-minute schedule using the scheduler appropriate to that system. Verify successive files and timestamps rather than assuming that a scheduler firing means an image was captured.
A project page for AutoScreenshot describes interval-based full-screen capture and Windows/Linux support. Its current maintenance, security posture, setup details, and compatibility were not established here, so check those before installing or relying on it. Save files safely and avoid common capture problems
Use timestamped, unique filenames
If each run writes to the same filename, a later screenshot can overwrite the earlier one. Make the capture script create a unique name for each run, such as one containing a date and time, and ensure the format is valid for the chosen operating system. Test what happens when two captures occur close together.
Plan for storage and sensitive content
At a ten-minute interval, a computer can produce 144 images in a full day of continuous scheduling. The actual number depends on how long the task runs and whether the computer is available. Estimate storage from the file sizes produced in your own setup; image dimensions, format, and screen content affect size. Set a retention or cleanup policy if the folder should not grow indefinitely.

Screenshots can include messages, account details, or other private information visible on screen. Restrict access to the output folder, avoid capturing screens you do not have permission to record, and consider whether the images need to be retained at all.
Understand missed or delayed runs
A scheduler attempts to launch a task according to its configuration; it cannot guarantee a useful screenshot if the machine is asleep, the session is unavailable, a permission prompt blocks capture, or the target application has not loaded. Review task history and timestamps in the output folder to distinguish a scheduling problem from a capture failure.
When a website screenshot API is the better fit
If the target is a URL rather than your local desktop, a remote capture service can avoid maintaining a browser on a desktop machine. A scheduled website capture flow runs against a target URL and produces a timestamped capture; it does not take a screenshot of your open applications. That command saves a WebP response, but running it unchanged repeatedly would overwrite shot.webp. In a scheduled workflow, adapt the output filename to include a timestamp and confirm your scheduler invokes it at ten-minute intervals. Use this only for a web page URL, not to capture a local desktop or application.

Can I use a URL screenshot API to capture a desktop app?
No. A URL screenshot API renders a website remotely; it does not see your local applications or desktop.
Does a ten-minute schedule guarantee 144 screenshots every day?
No. That is the arithmetic for continuous ten-minute intervals across 24 hours. Sleep, task conditions, unavailable sessions, and failed captures can reduce the actual output.
