How to Find a Product ID in WooCommerce: Beginner’s Guide

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The quickest way to find a WooCommerce product ID is to open WooCommerce > Products in your WordPress dashboard, find the product, and hover over its title or row. The numeric ID appears beneath the title. Copy that number for the shortcode, add-to-cart link, widget, or integration that requested it.

Find a product ID in the WooCommerce dashboard

  1. Sign in to your store’s WordPress admin area.
  2. Open WooCommerce > Products.
  3. Locate the product. Use the list’s available search or filter controls if necessary, and check the title carefully when products have similar names.
  4. Hover over the product title or its row. WooCommerce displays the product ID beneath the title.
  5. Copy the number and paste it into the shortcode, URL, widget, or integration that needs it.

This hover method is the standard beginner procedure documented by WooCommerce in its product management documentation and add-to-cart URL guide. Labels or layout can vary slightly between WooCommerce and WordPress releases.

What the product ID is used for

A product ID identifies one specific WooCommerce product. WooCommerce documentation lists shortcodes, widgets, and links that filter, sort, display, or add products to the cart as common reasons you may need it.

Shortcodes

The WooCommerce products shortcode accepts product post IDs through its ids attribute. For example, a shortcode instruction might require a comma-separated list such as [products ids="123,456"]. Follow the syntax required by the shortcode you are using; the ID values come from the Products screen. See the official product shortcodes documentation.

Add-to-cart URLs

WooCommerce add-to-cart links place the product number in the URL’s add-to-cart parameter. The exact link also depends on the instructions or product type, so copy the ID into the URL format supplied by your implementation. WooCommerce explains the format in its add-to-cart URL guide.

Do not confuse the product ID with the SKU

The product ID and SKU are different fields. The ID is WooCommerce’s numeric identifier for the product record; the SKU is the stock-keeping code you assign for inventory or business processes. The WooCommerce REST API documents id and sku as separate product fields, so an instruction asking for an ID should not be answered with the SKU. Product IDs are documented as read-only integers in the WooCommerce REST API product reference.

Get a product ID through an API

API access is useful when an integration needs to retrieve products automatically rather than copy one number manually.

WooCommerce REST API

With suitable API credentials and permissions, the WooCommerce REST API retrieves a product by ID with:

GET /wp-json/wc/v3/products/<id>

Replace <id> with the number from the dashboard. The endpoint and product fields are documented in the REST API v3 product reference. This route is intended for developers with authenticated API access, not as the simplest option for a beginner.

WooCommerce Store API

The public Store API provides product data at:

GET /products/:id

Its product-by-ID route exposes only published products. Draft and other non-published products return not found, so a missing result does not necessarily mean the numeric ID is invalid. See the Store API products documentation.

If you cannot find the number

  • Confirm that you are in WooCommerce > Products, not a different WordPress content list.
  • Search or filter for the exact product and verify its title before copying the ID.
  • Hover directly over the product title or row; the number appears in the row actions beneath it.
  • Check whether the system requesting the value wants an ID or an SKU.
  • For Store API requests, confirm that the product is published; non-published products are not publicly available through that endpoint.

Inspecting an edit-screen URL may provide a clue in some installations, but URL formats can vary. The dashboard hover method is the reliable, documented route.
