HP Envy x360

How to Take a Screenshot on an HP Envy x360 Laptop

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For most HP Envy x360 laptops, press Windows + Shift + S, select the area you want, then use the Snipping Tool notification to copy, annotate, or save it. For an entire screen saved immediately as a file, press Windows + Print Screen. If Print Screen is printed on a secondary key—often the right Shift key on some Envy x360 generations—hold Fn as well.

The right shortcut depends on whether you need a region, active window, or full display, and whether the result should go to the clipboard or directly to a file.

Choose the shortcut that matches the result you need

What you need Shortcut What happens Best use
A selected region, window, or full screen Windows + Shift + S The screen dims and Snipping Tool opens its capture bar Precise selections and quick annotation
Full screen saved as a file Windows + Print Screen A PNG is saved in Pictures > Screenshots Fast, automatic file creation
Full screen copied Print Screen The image is placed on the clipboard Pasting into Paint, Word, email, or another image-capable app
Current window copied Shift + Print Screen The active window is copied to the clipboard Capturing one application without the rest of the desktop

On a model where PrtSc is a secondary legend, replace the Print Screen key in the relevant shortcut with Fn + the key carrying PrtSc. Windows + Shift + S does not depend on the physical Print Screen location.

Capture part of the screen with Snipping Tool

This is the most dependable method when you need a particular panel, browser area, dialog box, or irregular shape.

  1. Press Windows + Shift + S.
  2. Wait for the display to dim and the Snipping Tool capture controls to appear.
  3. Choose a mode: rectangular snip, freeform snip, window snip, or full-screen snip.
  4. Select the region or window. For a rectangular snip, drag from one corner to the opposite corner. For a window snip, select the window shown by Snipping Tool.
  5. Use the notification that appears after the capture. From the Snipping Tool editor you can copy the image, annotate it, or save it.

Because this shortcut opens the capture interface directly, it is useful when the Envy x360 keyboard has an unusual or hard-to-find PrtSc marking. It also lets you capture something smaller than the whole display without cropping afterward.

Save a full-screen PNG automatically

  1. Show the screen exactly as you want it captured.
  2. Press Windows + Print Screen.
  3. If PrtSc is printed on another key, press Fn + Windows + that key instead.
  4. Open File Explorer and go to Pictures > Screenshots.

HP’s keyboard reference describes this shortcut as saving a picture of the screen as a PNG in the Screenshots folder in your Pictures library. The display may briefly change brightness while the capture is made; the resulting file is still in that folder.

Copy the full screen or active window instead of saving a file

Full screen to the clipboard

  1. Press Print Screen (or Fn + the key labeled PrtSc if it is a secondary function).
  2. Open Paint, Word, an email composer, or another app that accepts images.
  3. Press Ctrl + V to paste the capture.

Print Screen by itself normally copies the image; it does not create a file in Pictures > Screenshots. Save the pasted image from the application if you need a permanent file.

Active window to the clipboard

  1. Click the window you want so it is active.
  2. Press Shift + Print Screen (add Fn when PrtSc is on a shared key).
  3. Paste with Ctrl + V into an image-capable application.

This excludes other windows and the surrounding desktop, making it the quickest choice when the target is one application.

Find the Print Screen key on an Envy x360

HP has shipped Envy x360 generations with different keyboard legends. On some keyboards, PrtSc is printed on the right Shift key; on others it is combined with a different key. Look for the small PrtSc, PrtScn, or Print Screen marking rather than assuming it is in one fixed position.

  • If PrtSc has its own key, use it normally.
  • If PrtSc shares a key, hold Fn while pressing that key.
  • For a full-screen file, use Fn + Windows + the key carrying PrtSc.
  • For a clipboard capture, use Fn + the key carrying PrtSc, or Fn + Shift + that key for the active window.
  • If you cannot identify the legend, use Windows + Shift + S; that route does not rely on the hardware Print Screen placement.

Decide by capture scope, destination, and speed

  • Scope: Choose Snipping Tool for a region or irregular shape, Shift + Print Screen for one active window, and Windows + Print Screen for the entire display.
  • Destination: Use Windows + Print Screen when you want a file without opening another application. Use Print Screen or Shift + Print Screen when you plan to paste immediately.
  • Speed: The direct Print Screen shortcuts are fastest for repeat full-screen or window captures. Windows + Shift + S takes one extra selection step but avoids later cropping.
  • Editing: Snipping Tool’s notification and editor provide the copy, annotation, and save controls in the same workflow.

Troubleshooting HP Envy x360 screenshots

Nothing appears after pressing Print Screen

Print Screen normally copies the image rather than saving it. Open Paint or another image-capable app and press Ctrl + V. If the image appears, the shortcut worked; save it from that application.

Windows + Print Screen does nothing

Check whether PrtSc is printed on a secondary key. Hold Fn while pressing the key carrying that legend, together with Windows. Key placement varies by Envy x360 generation, so inspect the legends on your own keyboard.

You need a selection but cannot find PrtSc

Press Windows + Shift + S. Snipping Tool opens independently of the physical Print Screen key and provides rectangular, freeform, window, and full-screen modes.

You cannot find the automatically saved image

In File Explorer, open Pictures > Screenshots. That is the destination for the Windows + Print Screen PNG workflow.

The capture is the wrong window

For an active-window capture, click the target window first, then press Shift + Print Screen. If you need only part of that window, use Windows + Shift + S and drag a region instead.

If what you actually need is a clean image of a website—for documentation, monitoring, reports, or an AI workflow—ScreenshotNeo returns a screenshot or PDF from one request. It is a website screenshot API, not a replacement for capturing the Envy x360’s physical desktop.

Before capture, ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie or consent banners like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each cleanup step can be turned off. Only clean shots are billed: bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and the response identifies the result with X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.

Here is a complete cURL request (the parameter names are also compatible with those used by many other screenshot APIs):

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for authentication, response headers, and optional parameters. The same request in Python is:

import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={'access_key': 'YOUR_API_KEY', 'url': 'https://stripe.com'}, timeout=90)
open('shot.webp', 'wb').write(r.content)

Node.js:

const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);

Options for webpage captures
