On desktop Chrome, use DevTools’ Command Menu: open the page, press Ctrl+Shift+I (Windows/Linux) or Command+Option+I (Mac), press Ctrl+Shift+P or Command+Shift+P, type screenshot, and choose the capture command you need. Chrome can save the visible viewport, an entire page, a selected area, or a selected element.
Choose the right Chrome capture
The command determines what appears in the image:
| Command | Captured extent | Best use | Platform |
|---|---|---|---|
| Capture screenshot | Current viewport | What is visible in the webpage area now | Desktop Chrome DevTools |
| Capture full size screenshot | Entire webpage, including content below the fold | Long pages, documentation, or a complete design review | Desktop Chrome DevTools |
| Capture area screenshot | A rectangle you drag over the page | One region without capturing the rest of the page | Desktop Chrome DevTools; DevTools must be docked |
| Capture node screenshot | The element selected in DevTools | A card, image, banner, or other specific DOM element | Desktop Chrome DevTools |
| Screen Capture | Full screen, partial region, or window | A Chromebook device screenshot, including areas outside Chrome | ChromeOS |
| Long screenshot | A scrollable section of a page | A long webpage on a phone | Chrome for Android |
These are different workflows. Desktop DevTools captures webpage content; Chromebook Screen Capture captures the device screen; Android’s Long screenshot is available from Chrome’s sharing menu.
Take a screenshot of a webpage in desktop Chrome
- Open the webpage and position it at the state you want to capture. If the page needs a login, expand a menu, or load dynamic content, do that first.
- Open DevTools with Ctrl+Shift+I on Windows/Linux or Command+Option+I on Mac. You can also open Chrome’s menu and choose More tools > Developer tools.
- Open the DevTools Command Menu with Ctrl+Shift+P on Windows/Linux or Command+Shift+P on Mac.
- Type
screenshot. Chrome filters the menu to the capture commands. - Choose Capture screenshot, Capture full size screenshot, Capture area screenshot, or Capture node screenshot.
Chrome saves the resulting image using your normal download behavior. If you do not see it, check Chrome’s download indicator and the download location configured in your browser; there is no single location that applies to every operating system and configuration.
Capture only what is visible
Select Capture screenshot for the current viewport. This records the webpage area currently visible, not browser tabs, the address bar, or content below the fold.

Capture the entire webpage
Select Capture full size screenshot. Chrome captures the page’s full rendered length, including content that is not currently visible. This is the appropriate command for a complete article, landing page, or long documentation page.
Select a rectangle
Select Capture area screenshot, then drag across the desired region. Chrome’s Command Menu documentation describes this as area capture similar to a snipping tool. DevTools must remain docked in the browser window; area capture does not work when DevTools is undocked. If you undocked it, dock it again and repeat the command.
Capture one page element
To capture a specific element, open the Elements panel, select the node in the DOM or with the element picker, then open the Command Menu and choose Capture node screenshot. The output is limited to that selected node rather than the whole page.

The screenshot command is missing
Make sure DevTools is open and that you used the DevTools Command Menu shortcut, not the operating system’s app launcher. Type “screenshot” without extra words. If keyboard shortcuts are intercepted by your system, use Chrome’s menu path More tools > Developer tools, then open the Command Menu from DevTools.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteArea capture does nothing
Dock DevTools. The documented area command requires DevTools to be docked; an undocked DevTools window prevents it from working.
The image is not full length
Use Capture full size screenshot, not Capture screenshot. The latter intentionally records only the current viewport. Pages that load content while scrolling may also need time to finish rendering before you capture them.

Images or fonts look incomplete
Wait until network activity and lazy-loaded content have finished, then run the command again. Check the captured file before sharing. A screenshot can contain private account data, internal URLs, personal messages, or tokens; crop or redact sensitive information yourself.
The page changes while capturing
Dismiss cookie dialogs, close menus you do not want in the image, and pause animations where practical. For a long page, scroll through it once so lazy content has a chance to load, then use the full-size command.

- In the capture interface, choose full screen, partial region, or window capture.
- Complete the selection. ChromeOS automatically copies screenshots and recordings to the clipboard.
This method captures the Chromebook display or a window, so it is the better choice when you need browser chrome, another application, or the whole desktop in the image. See Google’s Chromebook instructions for the device workflow.
Android: take a Chrome Long screenshot
- Open the page in Chrome for Android.
- Tap More (the three-dot menu), then Share.
- Choose Long screenshot.
- Move the crop handles to include the required portion.
- Confirm, then save or share the image.
The exact menu presentation can vary with Android and Chrome versions. This flow is for a long webpage on the phone; it is separate from desktop DevTools. Google documents the feature in Chrome’s Android sharing help.
Screenshot privacy and practical checks
- Inspect the final image at 100 percent before publishing or sending it.
- Redact passwords, payment details, email addresses, private chats, recovery codes, and internal links.
- Remember that a webpage screenshot may include content below the fold that you did not notice while viewing the top of the page.
- For support tickets, record the browser and device context separately if the image alone does not explain the problem.

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. One GET request returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. It accepts cookie and consent banners like a visitor, then removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each cleanup step can be disabled. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and the response identifies the result with X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.
