Yes, but only in specific circumstances. Someone may see your phone through an accepted screen-sharing or remote-support session, control it after you approve a supported request, access it through a developer-pairing feature, or misuse a malicious app. A person on a call can also record what appears on their own device. A warm phone, short battery life, or an isolated glitch is not proof that somebody is remotely taking screenshots.
What “screenshot remotely” can mean
The phrase covers several different events. Distinguishing them matters because the evidence and the response are different.

iPhone and iPad: check active sharing and control first
FaceTime screen sharing
During a FaceTime call, look for Apple’s Screen Sharing control or the Viewing My Screen indicator. If you did not intend to share, use the call controls to stop sharing or end the call. A remote-control request can be declined. Declining control does not necessarily stop an already active screen share, so stop sharing separately when you want the other participant to lose visibility. Apple documents the indicators and controls in Manage Screen Sharing and Screen Control in FaceTime.
Remote control during a phone call
Apple’s supported Phone-call control feature is not an invisible back door. The recipient must tap Allow; the person requesting control must be in the recipient’s contacts; both participants need iOS 26 or later; and Apple currently lists the feature as unavailable in the European Union. Availability can change with later releases, so check Apple’s current instructions at Request or give remote control in a Phone call on iPhone.

While control is active, Apple warns that the controller may open or close apps, change settings, delete items, or send messages, although certain actions are restricted. You can continue interacting locally and can stop control. Ending the call ends the sharing and control session.
Device Hub pairing
If you have used Xcode, Apple Configurator, or another developer workflow, inspect paired-device access. Open Settings > Privacy & Security > Safety Check > Manage Sharing & Access, then continue to the Developer Mode and device-access review described by Apple. Review recent sessions, unpair anything you do not recognize, and disable Developer Mode if you do not need it. Apple’s labels may move in a future software update; the current reference is Manage Device Hub access on your iPhone.
Review app privacy access without confusing platforms
Check which apps can access sensitive data and remove access that does not fit the app’s purpose. Apple’s documentation on Protecting app access to user data includes a Screen Recording example scoped to macOS. Do not treat that example as an iPhone screen-recording-permission list; iOS and macOS expose different controls.

Android: scrutinize accessibility and restricted settings
Why Accessibility access deserves attention
Google says an app granted accessibility access can read screen content and interact with apps on your behalf. That capability can be legitimate for an assistive tool, but it is excessive for many ordinary apps. Go to your phone’s Settings and search for Accessibility or Installed services. Turn off a service you do not recognize or cannot justify, and uninstall the related app if appropriate. Menu names differ by Android version and manufacturer.

Review unexpected or restricted-setting requests
Google’s warning signs include an unsolicited caller or message directing you to install an app, an app insisting that you enable a device setting, or a request unrelated to what the app is supposed to do. Do not grant sensitive or restricted settings to an app you do not trust. Read Google’s explanation of these controls in Learn about restricted settings.
Run Play Protect and update the device
Use Google Play Protect to scan for harmful software, and install available Android and security updates. Google’s removal guidance is at Remove malware or unsafe software – Android. A clean scan is useful evidence that the current scan found nothing, but it is not forensic proof that no one ever viewed or captured a screen.

Consider Advanced Protection
On supported devices, Android’s optional Advanced Protection adds layers such as Play Protect, restrictions on unknown-source installations, and limits on accessibility services to verified tools. What is not reliable evidence by itself
- A phone feeling warm while charging, updating, navigating, or using a demanding app.
- Battery drain without a confirmed malicious app or permission.
- A single crash, lag spike, or unexplained notification.
- Mobile data usage that you have not yet matched to an app or system process.
These symptoms can justify a permissions and security review, but none establishes that somebody is taking screenshots remotely. Look for a concrete session indicator, an unrecognized pairing, an unexpected app, or an inappropriate sensitive permission.

Yes. Screen sharing cannot stop another participant from photographing or recording the shared content with their own device. The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency warns that meeting attendees may capture shared material on their devices; see its Trusted Internet Connections 3.0 Remote User Use Case. Share only information that you are prepared for other participants to retain.

A practical response checklist
- Stop an active session. In FaceTime, stop screen sharing, stop control, or end the call. Decline any unexpected control request.
- Check Apple pairing records. Use Safety Check’s Manage Sharing & Access flow, inspect recent Device Hub sessions, unpair unknown devices, and disable Developer Mode if it is unnecessary.
- Audit Android apps and accessibility. Remove apps you were talked into installing and disable accessibility or restricted settings that do not match a trusted app’s purpose.
- Scan and patch. Run Play Protect on Android and install operating-system and security updates. Keep iPhone or iPad software current as well.
- Preserve information before making high-risk changes. If you suspect targeted spyware or technology-facilitated abuse, document unfamiliar apps, permissions, pairing records, and messages from a safer device before deleting anything.
- Get specialist help when safety is at stake. Do not confront a suspected abuser or abruptly remove access if that could increase danger. Use a trusted device to contact a qualified local digital-safety organization or the relevant Apple, Google, or carrier support channel. Do not install a random “spyware detector” recommended by an unsolicited caller.
How to reduce the chance of unwanted viewing
- Approve screen sharing or remote control only when you initiated the support session or can independently verify the person’s identity.
- Read every permission request, especially Accessibility and other restricted settings, against the app’s actual purpose.
- Keep automatic operating-system and security updates enabled where practical.
- End support calls when the task is complete instead of leaving a session open.
- Assume anything visible in a group call can be recorded by another participant.
