The right choice depends on whether you need to display an existing file, create PDFs from posts or forms, or produce WooCommerce invoices. For most sites, PDF Embedder is the focused option for inline viewing, E2Pdf is the broadest choice for document and form workflows, and Gravity PDF is the specialist option when your site already uses Gravity Forms.
Choose the plugin by the PDF job
“PDF plugin” describes several different jobs. Decide what should happen after a visitor or administrator submits a request:

PDF Embedder: the focused inline viewer
Choose PDF Embedder when your main requirement is showing files already stored in the WordPress Media Library. Its WordPress.org listing says you select a PDF and place it with a block; the viewer adjusts to the browser dimensions instead of forcing a fixed-width document.
What the premium tiers add
- Download controls and active hyperlinks.
- Continuous scrolling, page jumping and mobile full-screen viewing.
- Full-text search.
- View and download tracking.
- An Elementor widget.
- Secure viewing in the Pro tier.
“Secure viewing” should be treated as friction against casual saving, not absolute copy protection. The listing cautions that the free, Basic and Plus tiers do not prevent direct access to the underlying file URL. Anyone who can retrieve a publicly reachable PDF may still be able to save or share it.

The listing claims the viewer appears on more than 300,000 websites. That is a vendor-reported adoption statement, not an independent quality test. WordPress.org’s directory snapshot from September 30, 2026 also showed 300,000+ active installations; installation counts change and do not measure rendering quality, support or security.
E2Pdf: the broad document and form toolkit
E2Pdf is the stronger candidate when a PDF must be assembled from site data rather than merely displayed. Its listing describes a document viewer and editor, a PDF forms editor and a data injector. Those tools can create or edit documents, generate forms from WordPress pages/posts or web forms, map content into PDF fields, and deliver files as email attachments or links.
Integrations to verify before building
E2Pdf documentation lists integrations with Contact Form 7, Elementor Forms, Everest Forms, Fluent Forms, Formidable Forms, Forminator, Gravity Forms, JetFormBuilder, Ninja Forms, WooCommerce and WPForms. A name on an integration list is not a guarantee that every field type, repeater, conditional rule or template behaves identically. Check the documentation for the exact form plugin and workflow you will deploy.
When E2Pdf is a good fit
- A submitted form must produce a filled application, certificate, quote or report.
- You need to map post, page, order or form values into an existing PDF template.
- The PDF should be attached to an email or exposed through a controlled link.
- Your site combines forms and WooCommerce rather than using one narrowly defined extension.
The WordPress.org listing also advertises a 90-day cookie and 20% lifetime commission for new payments through its affiliate program. Those are listing claims; verify that the program and terms remain active before relying on them.
Gravity PDF: the Gravity Forms specialist
Gravity PDF is the most direct choice when Gravity Forms already powers your submissions. The official download page lists version 6.17.0, released in September 2026, and states support for WordPress 5.3 or newer and Gravity Forms 2.9 or newer. It generates documents on the site server, supports unlimited use and adds no watermarks according to that page.
The dependency is decisive: you need both a WordPress site and Gravity Forms. If you do not use Gravity Forms, installing Gravity PDF does not give you a general-purpose form system or a universal post-to-PDF exporter. For existing Gravity Forms users, server-side generation can keep submitted data within the site’s hosting environment, subject to your hosting, access-control and backup practices.
WooCommerce invoices and packing slips
For store operations, look at PDF Invoices & Packing Slips for WooCommerce rather than a general viewer. WordPress.org’s PDF directory describes PDF/XML invoices, PDF packing slips and automatic emailing. Those are order-document functions, not a replacement for an inline reader or a form-to-document editor.
The directory snapshot captured on September 30, 2026 reported more than 300,000 active installations for this plugin. That is a dynamic directory count, not a performance benchmark. Before installing, verify support for your current WooCommerce and WordPress versions, tax display requirements, invoice numbering, refund handling and the email events your store uses.

Print, PDF & Email by PrintFriendly is listed as a separate workflow for allowing visitors to print a page, save it as a PDF or email it. Choose this category when the output is a cleaned-up representation of a web page, not a mapped business document. The available directory result does not provide enough detail to claim parity with the viewers or generators above, so confirm its current controls and delivery behavior on the plugin page.

1. Match the workflow before comparing features
Do not compare an inline viewer with an invoice generator as though they were competing products. Write down the trigger (page load, form submission, order status or visitor click), the source data and the expected delivery method.
2. Check dependencies and versions
- Gravity PDF requires Gravity Forms.
- WooCommerce invoice tools require WooCommerce.
- Multi-form tools such as E2Pdf need a documented integration for your exact builder.
- Confirm WordPress, PHP, form-plugin and WooCommerce compatibility before updating a production site.
3. Test the reader experience you actually need
For viewers, check responsive sizing, mobile navigation, full-screen mode, page jumping, text search, links, print behavior and whether downloads are exposed. A PDF that looks acceptable on desktop may be difficult to navigate on a phone.
4. Define delivery and data handling
For generated files, verify field mapping, template support, attachment versus link delivery, file naming, permissions and retention. Server-side generation does not by itself make a document private; secure the PDF URL, the WordPress account that can generate it and any email copies.

A viewer can discourage casual downloading, but no browser-based display should be described as guaranteed copy prevention when the file is publicly retrievable. Use authenticated pages, expiring links or a protected document system when confidentiality matters.
6. Confirm commercial terms directly
Current premium prices, license limits, update periods and support terms were not established in the available product evidence for PDF Embedder or E2Pdf. Check the vendors’ current pricing and licensing pages before budgeting. Do the same for any paid WooCommerce extension.
What the installation numbers do—and do not—tell you

- WooCommerce order paperwork: use a WooCommerce invoice and packing-slip extension.
- Visitor-friendly page output: evaluate a print/PDF/email utility such as PrintFriendly.
- Confidential documents: plan authentication and URL protection separately from the viewer choice.
