As of the vendors’ US pricing pages checked on September 30, 2026, monday.com Basic has the lower listed entry paid price: $9 per seat per month billed annually, compared with $10.99 per user per month for Asana Starter billed annually. That price difference alone does not show which platform costs less for your team: plan features, seat requirements, automation limits, and add-ons matter. Shortlist Asana if you need structured project oversight and capabilities such as goals, portfolios, or workload; shortlist monday.com if its configurable boards and tier-specific views and integrations fit your workflow. These are conditional recommendations based on vendor feature lists, not hands-on performance testing.
How do Asana and monday.com differ?
Both offer project and work management, but they package capabilities differently. Asana’s plans are organized around projects and tasks, with higher tiers adding cross-project oversight and capacity features. monday.com centers work around configurable boards and columns, with plan-specific views, integrations, and monthly action allowances. Neither product’s marketing pages establish which interface will be easier for your team; test a representative workflow before committing.
The comparison below concerns the vendors’ work-management offerings. monday.com also sells separate CRM, development, and service products, whose plan details should not be assumed to match its work-management plans.

Sources: Asana pricing and monday.com pricing. monday.com says prices exclude tax, depend on billing country, and that the final price appears before payment. Its pricing page states that work-management plans start at three users in its FAQ, while the displayed free plan supports up to two seats; do not confuse the free allowance with paid subscription sizing. Confirm currency, seat increments, discounts, and billing interval at checkout.
Why the lower starting price may not mean a lower bill
The entry prices are for different plans, and their included features are not equivalent. Compare the plans that cover your actual needs, multiply by the required seats, and account for billing cadence and add-ons. Asana lists its Timesheets and Budgets add-on at $5.99 per user per month billed annually on the pricing page; monday.com lists time tracking in Pro. A team needing time capture, timesheets, rates, or project budgets should compare the relevant capability rather than the entry price alone.

Check the exact plan for portfolio and resource governance
Asana lists portfolios, goals, and workload in Advanced, with broader workload and capacity controls described for Enterprise. monday.com places portfolio and resource management in Enterprise on its work-management pricing page. Because this placement is product- and plan-specific, verify the current details for the exact product and tier you are considering. monday.com’s plan support page describes its product plan taxonomy.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to compare the plans for your workflow
- Calculate the annual cost for your team size. Compare equivalent seat counts at the tiers that include your required features. Include annual versus monthly billing and any relevant Asana add-on; confirm paid-seat sizing and checkout pricing with each vendor.
- Map your real work structure. Try a representative workflow in each product, including tasks, subtasks, dependencies, and cross-project work. Check whether it fits Asana projects and tasks or monday.com boards and columns without awkward workarounds.
- Estimate monthly automation and integration actions. monday.com publishes monthly caps by plan. Asana lists unlimited automations on Starter, but these are not necessarily directly comparable units or workflow capabilities. Identify the triggers and integrations you actually need, then check the current plan details.
- Specify portfolio and capacity requirements. Decide whether you need rollups, goals, workload visibility, or capacity planning across projects, then confirm which tier includes the required controls.
- Verify collaboration and privacy. Check guest and viewer permissions, along with private project or board requirements, at the intended tier before inviting external collaborators.
- Confirm you are comparing the right products. monday.com’s work-management plans are distinct from its CRM, dev, and service offerings; Asana also has work-management and client-management offerings. Product names and plan tiers are not interchangeable.
What this comparison can—and cannot—tell you
The plan descriptions and prices above come from vendor documentation, not an independent hands-on test. They support a feature and price comparison, but not a claim that one platform is objectively easier, faster, or better. For current plan details, consult the Asana pricing page and monday.com pricing page. Each vendor also publishes its own comparison—Asana’s comparison and monday.com’s comparison—so treat their judgments as vendor-authored rather than independent findings.
