On an iPhone or iPad, take a Safari screenshot, tap its thumbnail, choose Full Page, then save the capture as an image or PDF. Safari on Mac uses a different documented workflow: File > Save As, followed by Web Archive or Page Source. The Mac options save page data or HTML; they are not the iPhone and iPad Full Page screenshot interface.
Capture an entire webpage on iPhone
Safari’s Full Page control captures content that extends below the visible screen. Apple documents this as a way to capture an entire webpage in Safari. See Apple’s iPhone screenshot guide for the current button combinations and save options.
- Open the page in Safari. Wait for the part you need to load before taking the screenshot.
- Take a screenshot. On an iPhone with Face ID, quickly press and release the side button and volume-up button together. On an iPhone with a Home button, press and release the Home and side buttons together.
- Open the screenshot. Tap the thumbnail that appears in the lower-left corner. If you do not open it, the screenshot is saved normally to Photos, but the Full Page controls are in the editor.
- Choose Full Page. At the top of the screenshot editor, tap Full Page. Safari displays a tall preview instead of only the visible screen.
- Inspect and adjust. Drag within the preview to check lower sections. Use the crop controls if you need only part of the page, or add markup before saving.
- Save the result. Save as a photo when that option is offered, or choose Save PDF to Files to create a PDF in the Files app.
The regular screenshot thumbnail still saves automatically to Photos. The Full Page editor is the step that lets you include content beyond the screen and choose a long image or PDF output.
What the iPhone capture includes
The result is a visual capture of the Safari page as rendered for your device. It is useful for sharing an article, keeping a reference copy, or annotating a page. It is not an export of the site’s underlying HTML, scripts, or server-side data.

Capture an entire webpage on iPad
The iPad uses the same Full Page workflow, with a different screenshot button combination. Apple’s instructions are in the iPad screenshot guide.
- Open the webpage in Safari.
- Take a screenshot by pressing the top button and a volume button together. On an iPad with a Home button, press the top button and Home button together.
- Tap the screenshot thumbnail.
- Tap Full Page at the top of the editor.
- Scroll through the long preview, crop or annotate it if needed, and save as an image to Photos or as a PDF to Files.
If the thumbnail disappears before you tap it, open the screenshot from Photos and check whether the Full Page control is available in the editing interface. The exact save choices can depend on the current page and the device’s available storage destinations.
Save a Safari webpage as an annotated PDF on iPhone
If your goal is a marked-up document rather than a long screenshot image, Safari has a separate PDF path. With the page open, open Safari’s page menu, tap Share, choose Markup, then select Save File To. Apple documents this flow in Annotate and save a webpage as a PDF in Safari on iPhone.

This route is useful when you want to draw on the page before saving. It should not be confused with the screenshot editor’s Full Page tab: both can produce a PDF, but they start from different Safari controls and serve different editing workflows.

Safari for macOS documents a save-page workflow rather than the iPhone and iPad Full Page screenshot interface. With the page open, choose File > Save As, then select one of the available formats. Apple’s Mac instructions are at Save part or all of a web page in Safari on Mac.
Web Archive
Web Archive saves the page’s graphics and related page information. Links in the archive work while their destination pages remain available. Use this format when you want a locally saved representation that can preserve more than the raw HTML.

Page Source
Page Source saves the page’s HTML source code only. It is appropriate when you need to inspect or retain markup, not when you need a visual, print-ready copy of the rendered page.
Apple warns that some webpages may prevent Safari from saving items displayed on the page. A Web Archive or source file therefore should not be treated as a guarantee that every embedded, dynamic, or access-restricted element will be reproduced exactly.
Choose the right Safari output
| Need | Safari route | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Share or keep a visual long capture on iPhone or iPad | Screenshot thumbnail > Full Page | Long image or PDF, with preview and crop controls |
| Annotate a webpage and save it as a PDF on iPhone | Page menu > Share > Markup > Save File To | Annotated PDF |
| Save a whole webpage from Safari on Mac | File > Save As > Web Archive | Saved page graphics and links that work while destination pages remain available |
| Keep only the page’s markup on Mac | File > Save As > Page Source | HTML source code |
Limits and edge cases
Full Page is not shown
The Full Page tab belongs to the screenshot editor on iPhone and iPad. If it is not offered for the current context, use the PDF route from Safari’s Share menu or save the visible screenshot instead. The Apple guides do not promise that every page or view exposes the control.

Very long or interactive pages
Review the long preview before saving. A page can contain content that changes as it loads, requires interaction, or is supplied by an embedded service. The documented instructions do not establish that every dynamic or access-restricted element will appear identically in a capture.
Saving fails or the file is hard to find
For an image, check Photos. For a PDF, use the Files destination presented by Save PDF to Files or Save File To, and note the folder you select. A long capture can also require more free storage than a normal screenshot.
Mac content is missing from a Web Archive
Safari notes that some webpages may prevent saving items shown on the page. If a required element is absent, try the iPhone or iPad Full Page capture for a visual record, or save Page Source when your requirement is the HTML itself.

Troubleshooting checklist
- Only the visible screen was saved: reopen the screenshot editor and tap Full Page before saving.
- The thumbnail vanished: find the screenshot in Photos and check the editing controls there.
- The page is cut off: inspect the long preview and crop only after the full capture has been generated; for a PDF, use Safari’s Share > Markup flow.
- You expected an editable webpage: Full Page creates a visual capture. On Mac, choose Page Source when you specifically need HTML.
- A Mac save contains fewer elements than expected: Safari may be unable to save items that a webpage prevents it from saving.
- The file opens differently elsewhere: Web Archive links depend on their destination pages remaining available, and a saved capture is not a promise that every live service will behave offline.
Or skip the browser setup
If you need repeatable captures from code, ScreenshotNeo provides a website screenshot API and MCP server. One GET request returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. Before capture, it can accept cookie or consent banners and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each cleanup step can be switched off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status.
Here is the basic cURL request (see the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for parameters and response details):
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
Python
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
Node.js
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
Options for production captures
ScreenshotNeo supports full-page capture with lazy images loaded, a single element selected by CSS selector, dark mode, 12 device presets or a custom viewport, retina scale, PDF paper size, margins, landscape mode and page ranges. You can supply custom CSS or JavaScript, click an element before capture, hide selectors, wait for a selector, delay, or network idle, and block ads, trackers, requests, or resource types.
For authenticated or regional pages, it accepts custom headers, cookies, user agents, Authorization, timezone, and geolocation. Other controls include transparent backgrounds, image resizing, a cache with a TTL you choose, signed links for public image tags, asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks, bulk capture of up to 100 URLs per call, a usage API, an OpenAPI specification, and compatibility with parameter names used by other screenshot APIs. Its MCP server exposes take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.
