Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteTo capture a scrolling webpage in Firefox with FireShot, open FireShot from its toolbar button, the Firefox main menu, or the page context menu, choose Capture entire Page (not the visible-area option), then save or export the result. FireShot’s documented toolbar default is “Capture entire webpage and Edit,” which opens the capture in its editor before you choose an output.
This guide covers the current Firefox Add-ons listing, practical checks for pages that load dynamically, Firefox’s built-in alternative, and an API option when you need repeatable captures outside a browser.
What “full page” means in FireShot
A full-page capture includes content below the current window, including sections you would normally have to scroll to see. FireShot separates that mode from capturing only the visible area and from selecting a scrolling region. Choosing the wrong mode is the most common reason a supposedly full-page image contains only the first screen.
- Entire page: captures the page’s scrollable document from top to bottom.
- Visible area: captures only what is currently inside the Firefox window.
- Scrolling selection: captures a chosen portion while FireShot scrolls through it.
FireShot’s vendor documentation describes the entire-page command as grabbing webpage content that is not visible without scrolling. The Firefox Add-ons listing also advertises full-page, visible-area, and scrolling-selection modes.

Install from the Firefox Add-ons listing
The Firefox Add-ons listing accessed on September 29, 2026 reports FireShot version 1.12.18 and a last-updated date of June 5, 2023. It also notes that FireShot v2 features were being rolled out to AMO and points to a vendor-hosted download. Because those dates and packages can change, prefer the official Firefox Add-ons installation path and check the version shown on the listing before troubleshooting behavior described here.
Check the permissions you are accepting
The listing requests access to data for all websites, plus permissions related to external programs and downloads. Clipboard input and browser-tab access are listed as optional permissions. That broad website access is relevant because the extension must read and capture pages you visit. The listing says screenshots are stored locally and do not leave the computer; treat that as the extension’s published privacy statement, not as an independent audit.
Prepare the page
- Open the exact URL you want to capture and wait for its main content to appear.
- Close transient dialogs that you do not want in the image, or decide whether they are part of the page you need to document.
- If the page loads sections only after scrolling, allow those sections to appear before starting the capture where possible.
- For a page inside an embedded scroll box, note that FireShot’s behavior can differ from a normal document-height page; the available sources do not establish a universal result for such layouts.
Step-by-step: capture an entire webpage with FireShot
- Open the capture command. Select the FireShot toolbar button if it is visible. The vendor also documents launching FireShot from Firefox’s main menu or from the page’s context menu. If the toolbar icon is hidden, use one of those menu routes or Firefox’s extension controls to reach FireShot.
- Choose the entire-page mode. Select Capture entire Page (wording may appear as “Capture entire webpage” in the toolbar action). Do not choose “Capture visible area” when you need content below the fold.
- Let FireShot scroll and assemble the image. Keep the tab open while FireShot processes the page. Avoid clicking links or switching the page state during this operation.
- Review the result in the editor. The documented toolbar default is “Capture entire webpage and Edit.” Inspect the top, bottom, and several intermediate sections before saving.
- Choose an output or action. FireShot documentation lists saving, copying to the clipboard, printing, emailing, and export actions. The current Firefox Add-ons listing advertises PDF with clickable links, PNG, and JPEG. Some PDF and text capabilities, as well as editor/export functions, are marked as upgrade-related in the listing.
- Save with a useful filename. Include the site, page slug, and date when the image will be used in bug reports or documentation. Keep the original capture if you expect to annotate or re-export it later.
Choosing PDF, PNG, or JPEG
| Format | Use it when | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| PNG | You need crisp text, interface details, or lossless evidence. | Advertised by the current Firefox Add-ons listing. |
| JPEG | You need a smaller photographic or web-sharing file. | Advertised by the current Firefox Add-ons listing; compression can soften small text. |
| You want a document-like file or clickable links. | The listing advertises PDF with clickable links; some PDF/text features are marked with an asterisk and may be upgrade-related. |
FireShot’s vendor Pro guide documents additional formats such as GIF and BMP. Those are vendor-documented Pro options, not capabilities guaranteed by the current free Firefox listing.
Verify a long capture before you rely on it
Check the top, middle, and bottom
Open the saved file at a readable zoom and inspect three points: the header, a middle section where the layout changes, and the final content. Look for duplicated bands, missing sections, clipped text, or a footer that was not included.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Look for lazy-loaded content
Images, comments, and cards that appear only after scrolling may not be present if they had not loaded when FireShot assembled the page. Reloading, waiting for the page to settle, or manually scrolling once before capture can help, but the available sources do not establish a guaranteed fix for every site.

Record the page state
Dynamic pages can change between captures. Note the URL, date, signed-in state, and any filters or expanded panels that matter to the evidence. A full-page image is a snapshot of that state, not a permanent representation of the site.
Firefox’s built-in full-page screenshot
You do not need FireShot for a one-off capture. Mozilla’s Firefox Help documents a built-in route:
- Right-click an empty part of the page and choose Take Screenshot, or press Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows/Linux or Command+Shift+S on macOS.
- In the screenshot interface, choose Save full page.
- Download the image or copy it to the clipboard.
Firefox’s built-in tool also supports selecting a region or capturing only the visible part. It avoids installing an extension, while FireShot is useful when you need its editor, export workflow, or additional capture modes.
Developer Tools route
Firefox Source Docs describe another technical option: enable the Developer Tools screenshot icon in the toolbox settings, or use the Web Console helper :screenshot --fullpage. This saves the full page, including content outside the current window bounds. It is convenient for developers already working in DevTools, but less discoverable for occasional users.
FireShot versus Firefox’s built-in tool
| Question | FireShot | Firefox built-in screenshot |
|---|---|---|
| Full-page capture | Yes; choose Capture entire Page. | Yes; choose Save full page. |
| Visible or selected regions | Visible-area and scrolling-selection modes are listed. | Region and visible-part capture are documented. |
| Output and processing | Listing advertises PDF, PNG, and JPEG; vendor documentation lists save, clipboard, print, email, and export actions. Some capabilities are upgrade-related. | Download the image or copy it to the clipboard. |
| Installation and permissions | Requires an extension with access to data for all websites and permissions related to external programs and downloads. | Built into Firefox; no separate extension installation. |
| Best fit | Repeat users who want FireShot’s editor and documented export workflow. | One-off captures or users who prefer a built-in feature. |
Troubleshooting FireShot captures
Only the visible viewport was saved
Cause: the visible-area command was selected. Fix: reopen FireShot and choose Capture entire Page. Confirm the result extends past the initial window before saving.

The bottom of the page is missing
Cause: content may be inside an embedded scroll container, loaded only after interaction, or still rendering. Fix: wait for the page, expand required sections, and scroll through it once before retrying. If the content lives in a separate scroll box, capture that element or use the site’s own export where available.
Images or cards are blank
Cause: lazy loading or delayed network requests. Fix: reload, wait until thumbnails appear, and perform another entire-page capture. There is no documented guarantee that every lazy-loading implementation will be handled identically.
The extension button is not visible
Cause: the toolbar icon is hidden. Fix: use FireShot through Firefox’s main menu or the page context menu, both documented entry points, or manage the extension from Firefox’s extension controls.
PDF or editor options are unavailable
Cause: the Firefox listing distinguishes advertised basic outputs from capabilities associated with an upgrade. Fix: verify which edition is installed and use the listing’s current feature description rather than assuming every Pro-guide option is included in the free Firefox package.
A site refuses to load or changes during capture
Cause: authentication, bot checks, unstable scripts, or a page that depends on active interaction. Fix: capture after signing in and stabilizing the page, preserve the relevant state, and try Firefox’s built-in tool for a second copy. Do not treat a failed or partial image as evidence of the page’s complete content.

Privacy and maintenance considerations
Because FireShot requests access to data for all websites, install it only in a Firefox profile where that permission fits your workflow. Review the extension’s current listing after updates, especially when the listing’s version metadata is older than its note about a v2 rollout. The listing’s claim that screenshots remain local is useful context, but organizations with strict requirements should still evaluate extensions under their own security and data-handling policies.

Firefox’s built-in screenshot documentation separately says Firefox Screenshots collects interaction data such as use of “Save full page,” but not the URL or captured image details. That statement applies to Firefox Screenshots, not to FireShot, so do not transfer it between the two products.

For automated captures, use ScreenshotNeo, a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. One GET request returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. It accepts the cookie or consent banner like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before the capture; each step can be turned off. Bot checks/CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and the response identifies the result with X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.
