Choose the output before you capture
“Scrolling screenshot” can mean three different results. Pick the row that matches what you need:

A very long, interactive, dynamically loaded, or permission-gated page may not reproduce identically in any method. Scroll through the result and check the bottom, images, tables, and embedded content before sharing it.
Method 1: Check Edge Web capture for a Full page option
Microsoft’s retrieved support material does not establish the current Edge Web capture menu, shortcut, or full-page control. That is an availability and version caveat, not proof that the feature is absent. Use these steps as a version check rather than a guaranteed interface path.

- Open the page in Microsoft Edge and wait for its visible content to finish loading.
- Open Edge’s Settings and more menu (the three dots) and look for Web capture. Some installations may expose the command elsewhere in the browser UI.
- If Web capture opens a selection bar, look for a command labeled Full page, Capture full page, or equivalent wording.
- Let Edge generate the preview. Inspect the lower end of the image and several points in the middle; a capture that shows only the viewport is not a scrolling screenshot.
- Use the preview’s save or copy control, then open the saved file independently to confirm its dimensions and completeness.
If your build offers only a rectangular or visible-area selection, it is not providing a full-page capture through that command. Do not assume a keyboard shortcut found in an older guide still works in your installation; Microsoft’s current keyboard-shortcut reference does not verify a universal full-page shortcut: Microsoft Edge keyboard shortcuts.
When this method fails
Close cookie dialogs, sign-in prompts, chat bubbles, and other overlays before capturing when possible. If a page loads more content only after scrolling, wait for that content to appear and repeat the capture. For a protected page, respect its access controls; a screenshot tool cannot legitimately bypass authentication or a bot challenge.
Method 2: Use OneNote Web Clipper for a documented full-page image
Microsoft’s OneNote Web Clipper documentation specifically describes a Full Page option that puts a screenshot image of the current webpage into a OneNote notebook: Getting Started with the OneNote Web Clipper.
- Install the OneNote Web Clipper extension for Edge from an official Microsoft-supported extension source.
- Sign in when the extension requests a Microsoft account and approve the permissions it presents. The exact prompts can vary by account and extension release.
- Open the target webpage, then select the OneNote Web Clipper button in Edge’s extensions area.
- Choose Full Page, select the destination notebook and section, and confirm the clip.
- Open OneNote and check that the inserted image reaches the end of the page. Save or export it from OneNote in the format you need.
This workflow is useful when you want the capture organized in OneNote. It depends on the extension, an account, and its requested permissions, so it may not suit a locked-down work computer.

Method 3: Capture the visible screen with Snipping Tool
Snipping Tool is not a scrolling-page tool. Microsoft documents the shortcut exactly as: “Press Windows logo key + Shift + S to open the snipping tool overlay to capture an image snapshot.” Its listed modes are freeform, rectangle, window, and full screen: Use Snipping Tool to capture screenshots.
- Scroll the page to the area you want visible in the image.
- Press Windows logo key + Shift + S.
- Choose Rectangle, Window, Full screen, or Freeform from the overlay.
- Select the area. Use the notification preview to annotate, copy, or save the image.
To document an entire webpage with this method, you would need several separate snips and an image editor to join them. That produces a stitched graphic, not an automatically generated page capture, and alignment errors are easy to miss.
Method 4: Print the page when readability matters more than one image
Press Ctrl+P in Edge to open the print flow documented by Microsoft: Print in Microsoft Edge. Choose a printer or PDF destination, paper size, orientation, margins, and pages, then preview before saving.
Print output is normally divided across pages. It preserves selectable text more reliably than a tall bitmap, but it is not evidence that Edge can produce one continuous screenshot. Headers, footers, background graphics, and lazy-loaded elements may change the result; inspect the print preview and the saved PDF.

Fixes for common capture problems
The result stops at the viewport
You used a visible-screen mode rather than a full-page mode, or your Edge build does not expose Web capture’s full-page control. Try the OneNote Web Clipper Full Page workflow, or save a PDF through Ctrl+P.
Images or sections are blank
Wait for the page to finish loading, disable an obstructing consent dialog, and check whether images appear only after scrolling. Capture again after the lazy content is visible. A page that requires a login, subscription, or other permission may intentionally withhold content from an unauthenticated capture.
A cookie banner, popup, or chat widget covers the page
Use the page’s close or reject controls before capture. If the overlay cannot be dismissed, use print preview or a capture service that removes common overlays before rendering; do not hide a notice when doing so would change the evidence you need to preserve.
The page keeps changing while it is captured
Pause animations when the site allows it, wait for network activity to settle, and capture at a consistent zoom. Infinite feeds and auto-refreshing dashboards have no stable “bottom”; define the section or time range you intend to record.

The file is enormous or difficult to share
Use a reasonable browser zoom, crop irrelevant whitespace, and choose JPEG or WebP only when the small quality loss is acceptable. Keep a lossless PNG or PDF when text, diagrams, or legal records must remain clear.
The extension cannot be installed
Managed devices may block extensions or OneNote sign-in. Ask your administrator for an approved workflow, use Edge’s available built-in commands, or print to PDF. Do not install an extension from an unverified source.

- Page extent: full-page capture loads lazy images; you can capture one element by CSS selector instead of the whole document.
- Rendering: choose PNG, JPEG, or WebP; set a viewport, one of 12 device presets, retina scale, dark mode, transparent background, or image resizing.
- Timing and interaction: wait for a selector, a delay, or network idle; click an element; inject custom CSS or JavaScript; hide selectors.
- Network and identity: block ads, trackers, requests, or resource types; send custom headers, cookies, a user agent, or an Authorization header; set timezone and geolocation.
- Delivery: use a chosen cache TTL, signed links for public

A full-page capture can be much larger than the visible screen. Open it in an editor that supports large canvases, zoom out, or export a PDF for easier pagination and sharing.
Is a scrolling screenshot suitable as legal or compliance evidence?
Treat it as a visual record, not automatic proof of authenticity. Keep the original file, capture date and URL, note the account state and settings, and preserve a PDF or source export when the record must be auditable.
