Which Uten scale is this?
The model identified in the available manual is US-U-HKW014-X01, associated with ASIN B07DL3DG3B. Check the model printed on the underside, packaging or listing before relying on its specifications. Uten listings and device databases include other identifiers, including B07GDGZN47, EHA701, EK8461H and Uten-Scale-X1372; similar names alone do not prove that they share the same design or functions. The mirrored manual and Uten device listings show why matching the model and control layout matters.
The original TechHacker review, dated October 18, 2018, calls the product multifunctional and lists weighing and convenience modes. It does not establish that the scale is malfunctioning.

Design and day-to-day usability
The scale’s main practical appeal is its thin, compact body, which should be easier to put away than a bulky platform scale. The manual describes a stainless-steel weighing surface, ABS frame and hanging hook. Stainless steel is the platform material, not the whole housing. A smooth surface is convenient to wipe, although fingerprints and scratches may show.
The relatively small platform can be awkward with a wide bowl: the bowl may cover the display or controls. Check that your usual containers leave the screen visible. The scale should sit with all feet on a hard, level counter; a soft mat, uneven surface or nearby object touching the scale can undermine stable readings.

The available documentation does not establish long-term durability, button reliability or a Uten-specific failure rate. Treat descriptions of build and controls as product specifications rather than proof of tested longevity.
What the functions do—and what they do not
The manual and older review describe several modes. Which are available may vary by model or version, so check the labels and behavior on your own unit.
- Weight units: The UNIT button cycles through supported units, including grams and kilograms, and ounces or pounds/ounces.
- Tare/zero: Put a bowl on the platform and press ZERO/TARE to zero its weight, then add ingredients. Tare again between ingredients.
- Water and milk volume: Milliliter or fluid-ounce modes are convenient estimates for the selected liquid. They are not universal volume conversions for every liquid, because density varies.
- Backlight and auto-off: The screen is backlit. The 2018 review reports a 120-second automatic shutoff; verify your unit rather than assuming all versions use the same timing.
- Low-battery and overload indicators: The manual describes warnings for low power and excess load.
- Timer, clock and temperature display: These appear in the manual mirror, but they are secondary conveniences and may not be present on every similar Uten scale.
Extra modes do not make the scale more suitable for precision work; the key practical question is whether its readings repeat consistently at the quantities you use.

Resolution is not the same as accuracy
A 1 g display increment means the screen changes in steps of 1 g. It does not show that a displayed weight is within 1 g of the true weight. The available product materials give capacity and graduation, but no accuracy tolerance, repeatability specification, calibration certificate or independent laboratory results.

- Set the scale on a rigid, level counter, away from vibration, then switch it on and wait for zero.
- Weigh the same object five times, removing it between readings. Note whether the reading repeats and returns to zero.
- Repeat with several loads across the range, such as a small ingredient, a 500 g reference and a 1 kg reference. Use a trusted scale or known reference weight for comparison if available.
- Try the same object at different points on the platform, then repeat after using tare. Record drift, settling behavior and any position-dependent change.
This is a consumer repeatability check, not a formal accuracy test. The general limitations of the listed specifications are described in the manual mirror.

Setup and normal weighing
The manual’s operating sequence is straightforward:
- Open the battery compartment on the underside and insert two AAA batteries, matching the polarity markings.
- Place the scale on a hard, flat, stable surface with all feet supported.
- Press ON/OFF and wait for the display to settle at zero.
- Press UNIT until the desired unit appears.
- Set the empty bowl or container on the platform, then press ZERO/TARE.
- Add the ingredient. To weigh another ingredient in the same bowl, press ZERO/TARE again before adding it.
Do not weigh on a soft mat, a vibrating counter or a surface where a bowl, cable or appliance touches the scale. Such contact can make the displayed value unstable.

Cleaning and care
Wipe the platform with a slightly damp cloth and dry it promptly. Do not immerse the scale or rinse it under running water; the available care guidance does not describe it as waterproof. Avoid abrasive cleaners, drops, prolonged acidic residue and liquid entering the housing. Who should buy it?
The Uten is most plausible for ordinary home tasks: weighing recipe ingredients, meal-prep portions, coffee or spices, provided you do not need measurements finer than its stated 1 g increment. Its compact footprint and tare function are useful when storage space is limited.
It is a weaker choice if you need documented calibration for commercial work, sub-gram precision, capacity above 5 kg, waterproof construction or dependable long-term manufacturer support. The available documentation does not establish a current first-party support channel or a universal warranty for present-day buyers.
The original review dates to 2018, and the product appears in marketplace listings, but that does not confirm current manufacture, stock, price or warranty. Before buying, confirm the exact model number, seller, included batteries, return window and written warranty terms on the listing. The Uten appears on Wayfair and Walmart, but seller-specific terms can change.

If support and an easier replacement path matter more than the lowest purchase price, compare a currently listed mainstream brand before choosing an uncertain Uten listing. Home Depot’s stainless digital scale category includes several Escali models; check each product’s current specifications and seller terms rather than assuming the models are interchangeable.
For an ultra-slim stainless alternative, Avanti lists a 5 kg scale with 1 g increments, tare and water/milk modes on its product page. That page showed $39.95, reduced from a $52.95 RRP when surfaced; price and stock may change, and the page appears region-specific, so shipping and warranty suitability depend on where you live. A true 0.1 g precision scale is a different category for users who need sub-gram readings; the Uten’s 1 g graduation does not provide that resolution.
