Yes—Apple Music works on a Chromebook in two ways. If your Chromebook supports Android apps and Google Play, install the official Apple Music Android app. If Google Play is unavailable or blocked, open music.apple.com in Chrome and optionally install that site as a web app.
First, check whether your Chromebook supports Android apps
Google Play is available only on some Chromebook models, and a school or employer may disable it. Update ChromeOS before checking.
- Select the time in the bottom-right corner.
- Open Settings and install any available ChromeOS update, then restart if prompted.
- Return to Settings > Apps.
- Look for Manage Google Play preferences.
That setting is the compatibility check. Google documents the same path in its Chromebook Android-app instructions. If the option is missing, the Chromebook may not support Android apps, ChromeOS may need updating, or an administrator may have restricted the feature.
Install Apple Music from Google Play
Enable Google Play
- Open Settings > Apps > Manage Google Play preferences.
- In the Google Play window, select More.
- Accept the Google Play Terms of Service.
Install and open the app
- Open the Chromebook Launcher and select Play Store.
- Search for Apple Music.
- Select the official Apple Music app from Apple, then choose Install.
- When installation finishes, open Apple Music from the Launcher.
Apple explicitly lists a Chromebook that supports Android apps as a compatible device for downloading Apple Music from Google Play: Apple’s Android support instructions. Android apps installed from Google Play are downloaded separately; installing one on an Android phone does not automatically install it on the Chromebook. Display modes can vary by app, including phone, tablet, or resizable windows.

Sign in with an existing subscription
Choose Sign In and enter the Apple Account connected to your Apple Music subscription. Apple also documents the alternate path More > Settings > Sign In. If the app shows a trial or subscription offer, sign in rather than starting another subscription.
Google Play and downloaded Android apps are initially available only to the Chromebook account that first signed in to the Play Store. Switching Chromebook accounts can therefore make the app appear to be missing.
Use Apple Music without installing an Android app
When your Chromebook lacks Google Play, or you simply want the quickest setup, use the web player:

- OS: Chrome OS
- Screen Size: 11.6"
- Open Chrome.
- Go to https://music.apple.com/.
- Select Sign In.
- Enter the Apple Account associated with Apple Music.
Apple supports accessing and subscribing to Apple Music at music.apple.com, and Google lists Apple Music among services that can stream on a Chromebook through the web: Google’s Chromebook music guide. The website is not the same application as the Android version, so do not assume identical app features or offline behavior.

Install the Apple Music website as a Chromebook web app
A web app gives Apple Music its own Launcher entry and app-style window while still using the website.
- Open music.apple.com in Chrome.
- Select the three-dot More menu.
- Choose Cast, save, and share.
- Select Install page as app… and follow the prompts.
Chrome may instead show an Install icon in the address bar. Google documents both methods at its web-app installation page.

| Offline expectations | The route to investigate app-based downloads, subject to device and app support | Do not assume the same offline functionality as the Android app |
| Administrator impact | Play Store or Android downloads may be blocked | May work if the website is allowed |
Fix common Apple Music and Chromebook problems
“Manage Google Play preferences” is missing
- Update ChromeOS and restart.
- Check Settings > Apps again.
- If the option is still absent, the model may not support Android apps.
- On a school- or work-managed device, contact the administrator.
- Use music.apple.com instead.
Google explains that a Chromebook without the Play Store option may not work with Android apps: support.google.com.
The Play Store will not open
- Restart the Chromebook.
- Check the internet connection.
- Install any ChromeOS update.
- Try opening Play Store again.

Apple Music is not listed in Google Play
The app may be filtered as incompatible with your Chromebook, unavailable in your region, or blocked by an account policy. Google says Android apps do not work on every Chromebook and may show “Your device is not compatible with this version”: Google’s compatibility guidance.
The device is marked incompatible
Use the web player or install it as a web app. Do not treat APK sideloading as the normal fix: it can create security, update, signing-in, and compatibility problems, and it is outside the standard Apple and Google installation path.
A school or employer blocks installation
Administrators can disable Google Play or Android-app downloads. Google describes these managed-device restrictions at its administrator guidance. Request approval, or use the web player if that site is permitted.

Apple Music works in Chrome but not in the app
That usually indicates an Android compatibility, Play Store, or policy issue rather than a broken subscription. The web player and Android app run in different environments.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Subscription, pricing, and regional availability
Installing the app or web app does not itself cost money, but full Apple Music access requires a subscription. Apple says availability can vary by country or region. Promotional offers and plan prices also vary by country, date, eligibility, and signup channel; Apple’s plan page currently shows limited-time offers and inconsistent price references. Check the final amount on Apple’s checkout screen at Apple Music or during signup at music.apple.com.
Apple Music Classical is a separate app included with eligible subscriptions; it is not required to install or use the main Apple Music service. iTunes is not a Chromebook solution—Google states that iTunes does not work on Chromebooks: Google’s Chromebook compatibility page.
