In Squarespace 7.1, replace a header logo by opening Edit, choosing Edit Site Header, clicking the current logo, and adding an image under Logo Image or Mobile Logo Image. Squarespace 7.0 and the mobile app use different menus. Keep a site title filled in even when the logo is visible: Squarespace uses it for the logo’s alternative text and may show it in browser tabs and search results.
Before you replace the logo
Prepare the image and confirm which Squarespace editor you are using. The desktop instructions below are for Squarespace 7.1 unless a section is labeled 7.0. You can identify the version from the editing interface: 7.1 uses a page preview with an Edit button and an Edit Site Header control; 7.0 exposes template-specific design menus.
- Accepted formats: Squarespace lists JPG, GIF, PNG, and WebP for site logos.
- Image size: exact dimensions are not required. Start with a larger, sharp source so it does not become blurry when enlarged.
- Transparency: use a PNG with a transparent background. Squarespace’s built-in image editor saves edited images as JPG, which removes transparency; use external image software if transparency must be preserved.
- Access: you need permission to edit the site and, for the app, access to the site’s account.
A logo image replaces the text site title in the header. The title field should still contain your site name because Squarespace says it supplies the logo’s alt text and can be used in search results and browser tabs. The logo itself links to the homepage; changing that destination requires custom code, not a header setting.

Change the logo in Squarespace 7.1 on desktop
- Sign in to Squarespace and open the site.
- Click Edit in the site preview.
- Hover over the header and click Edit Site Header.
- Click the site title or current logo. Select its pencil icon to open the logo controls.
- Under Logo Image, click +. Upload a file or choose an image already in your library.
- If your design has a separate phone treatment, open Mobile Logo Image and click + to add a mobile-specific file. If you leave it empty, Squarespace uses the regular logo according to the header layout.
- Adjust the desktop and mobile logo-height sliders. The selected header layout can limit the maximum height, so a slider may stop before the image reaches the size you expected.
- Click Save. If you are still in the header editor, click Exit, then save the page changes.
Preview both wide and narrow layouts before publishing. A logo can look balanced on desktop but become too tall, cropped, or crowded on a phone when the header switches layout.
Remove a 7.1 logo and restore the site title
- Open Edit Site Header and the same logo control.
- Open the three-dot menu next to the image.
- Select Remove.
- Save the header and page changes.
Once the image is removed, the populated site-title field appears in its place. If no title appears, return to the site-title setting and enter one before saving.
Change the logo in Squarespace 7.0
Squarespace 7.0’s controls depend on the template family, so labels and maximum sizes vary.
- Hover over the title on any page and click Edit, or open Design > Logo & Title.
- In the logo area, upload a new image or select one from the image library.
- To replace the existing file, choose the new image and confirm the change.
- To return to a text title, remove the logo image, then save.
Some 7.0 templates impose a maximum logo dimension and some offer limited mobile behavior. If a size control is missing, that is generally a template limitation rather than a failed upload. Check the header at the site’s mobile breakpoint and use a simpler or shorter logo if the template cannot accommodate the full mark.
Change the logo in the Squarespace app
- Open the Squarespace app and select the site.
- Tap More > Design > Logo & Title > Logo > Add image.
- Choose Camera, Photo Library, Files, or an image in iCloud.
- Return to Logo & Title and save.
To remove the image in the app, open the logo control, tap Remove, and save. The app route changes the same site setting as desktop; it does not create a separate mobile-only site logo unless you use the available mobile-logo setting in the site’s header design.
Logo display details that commonly surprise site owners
The title is still important
Adding an image does not make the site-title field unnecessary. Keep the title populated for accessibility text and for places where Squarespace uses the site name, including browser tabs and possible search-result presentation.
The logo always goes to the homepage
Squarespace states: “Clicking your logo image always leads to your homepage.” A different destination is not available through the standard logo control and requires custom code.
Desktop and mobile heights are separate in 7.1
In 7.1, adjust the desktop and mobile logo heights in the header settings. The chosen header layout can cap those values. A separate mobile image is useful when the desktop mark is very wide, but it is optional.

Transparent files can lose transparency
Use a prepared transparent PNG rather than editing the file inside Squarespace if the transparent background matters. The built-in editor’s JPG output replaces transparent areas with a solid background.
Acuity uses a separate logo
The logo on an Acuity Scheduling booking page is managed separately from the Squarespace site header. When a new Acuity subscription is attached, an existing site logo may initially appear, but you can change or remove it in Acuity without changing the site header.
Troubleshooting a logo that will not change
The upload control is missing
Confirm that you opened the header editor, not a page section. In 7.1 the path is Edit > Edit Site Header > title or logo > pencil. In 7.0 use Design > Logo & Title or hover the title and choose Edit.
The new image appears blurry
Replace it with a larger original file. Squarespace does not require exact dimensions, but enlarging a small raster image exposes its pixels. Export a crisp PNG, JPG, GIF, or WebP at a size larger than the displayed logo.

The logo has an unwanted background
Use a transparent PNG prepared outside Squarespace. Do not run it through the built-in editor if you need to retain alpha transparency, because that editor saves as JPG.
The logo is too large or too small on phones
In 7.1, adjust the mobile logo-height slider and inspect the selected header layout’s maximum. In 7.0, the template may not expose equivalent controls. A separate, compact mobile logo can prevent wrapping or excessive header height.
Squarespace rejects the logo
The Squarespace help guidance says to check the site’s SEO description and shorten it to 300 characters or fewer if a logo cannot be added. Save the shortened description, then try the upload again.
The old logo remains after saving
Save the header and exit the editor, then reload the public page in a private window. This distinguishes an unsaved editor change from a browser cache. If the public page still shows the old asset, verify that you changed the correct site and that a page-specific header configuration is not overriding the global header.

Choosing a logo file and checking the result
- Use a horizontal version for headers with a wide navigation row; use a compact mark where the mobile header is narrow.
- Keep important lettering away from the image edges so responsive scaling does not make it appear clipped.
- Check contrast against both the header background and any transparent areas.
- Open the homepage, an interior page, and a phone-sized preview. Clicking the logo should return to the homepage.
- Inspect the browser tab and page source or accessibility tools to confirm the site title is still present as the logo’s descriptive text.
Or skip the browser setup
If you need screenshots of the updated Squarespace header for a review, regression check, or documentation, ScreenshotNeo can capture the page with one request. It is a screenshot API and MCP server, not a Squarespace editor: you still change the logo in Squarespace first, then capture the public URL.
cURL:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://example.com -o shot.webp
Python:
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://example.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
Node.js:
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://example.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for output and option details. Before capture, it can accept cookie or consent banners and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each step can be disabled. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and response headers identify the page verdict and whether it was billed. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots. Create a free ScreenshotNeo account.
FAQ
Can I show both the image and the text title?
The standard header uses the logo image in place of the site title. Keep the title field populated for accessibility and metadata, but displaying both as visible header elements requires a different header design or custom code.
Can I link the logo to a landing page instead of the homepage?
Not through Squarespace’s normal logo setting. The built-in behavior links to the homepage; a different destination needs custom code.
Will changing the site logo change my Acuity logo?
No. Acuity Scheduling has its own logo setting, even if it initially inherited the site logo when the subscription was connected.
Which format is best for a logo?
Use a transparent PNG when you need a transparent background. Otherwise choose a sharp JPG, GIF, or WebP that matches the header’s background and your scaling needs.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use a different logo only on mobile?
Yes. Squarespace 7.1 provides a Mobile Logo Image control in the header editor, allowing a separate file and mobile height.
Why does my logo look different in Squarespace 7.0?
7.0 templates control logo dimensions and mobile behavior differently, so available size controls depend on the template family.
