The quickest route is: capture the screen with your device’s built-in shortcut, confirm where the image was saved (or copy it from the clipboard), open it in a print-capable app, and choose Print. The exact keys, save folder, and selection tools depend on whether you use Windows, macOS, iPhone, Android, or a Chromebook.
Before you capture: choose what you need
Decide whether you need the entire display, one window, a rectangular area, or a long page. Also decide whether you need an image file or only a temporary clipboard copy. A file is easier to find and print later; a clipboard capture can be pasted directly into an email, document, or image editor.
- Full screen: captures everything visible on the display.
- Window or menu: captures one application without surrounding windows.
- Selected area: captures only the rectangle or freeform region you drag.
- Scrolling or full page: captures content below the visible area when the operating system or app supports it.
Built-in tools handle ordinary captures, so a separate screenshot application is usually unnecessary for this task.
Windows: capture with Snipping Tool, then print
Capture a screen, window, or selected region
- Press Windows+Shift+S. The Snipping Tool overlay appears. On some keyboards, pressing Print Screen opens the same capture controls.
- Choose a mode: rectangle, window, full screen, or freeform.
- Make the selection. A notification or Snipping Tool window appears after the capture.
- Select Save, or press Ctrl+S. Choose a filename, folder, and image type so you can locate it easily.
Microsoft Support describes Snipping Tool as a way to “take a snapshot to copy words or images from all or part of your PC screen.” If you used a keyboard command that copied rather than saved an image, paste it into Paint or another image editor and save it first.

Print the Windows screenshot
- In File Explorer, right-click the saved image and choose Print, or open it in Snipping Tool and choose File > Print.
- Select the configured printer in the print dialog.
- Set paper size, orientation, color, copies, scaling, and other available options.
- Preview the result if the dialog provides a preview, then select Print.
Mac: use keyboard shortcuts or the Screenshot app
Capture the entire screen, an area, or a window
- Press Shift+Command+3 for the full screen.
- Press Shift+Command+4, then drag, to select an area.
- Press Shift+Command+4, press Space, and click a window or menu to capture it.
On macOS Mojave 10.14 or later, Shift+Command+5 opens the Screenshot app. It provides capture modes, a timer, and a Save to choice. The default save location is the Desktop, but you can select another folder before capturing. Some protected applications, including Apple TV, may refuse screenshots; there is no general print workflow that bypasses an app’s capture restriction.
Print a Mac screenshot
- Open the image from the Desktop or the save folder in Preview, Photos, or another print-capable app.
- Choose File > Print, or press Command+P. In Chrome, Command+P opens Chrome’s print dialog when the image is displayed there.
- Choose the printer and adjust paper, orientation, scale, and copies.
- Select Print.
iPhone: capture with the buttons, then print from Photos or Share
Take the screenshot
- Face ID models: press the Side button and Volume Up together, then release quickly.
- Touch ID models with a Side button: press the Side button and Home together.
- Models with a Top button: press the Top button and Home together.
Find the image in Photos > Collections > Media Types > Screenshots. On iOS 26, screenshot tools appear after capture; on iOS 18 and earlier, a temporary thumbnail appears. Tap the thumbnail to crop, annotate, or share.
Capture a supported full page
For supported long content, such as a webpage in Safari, take the screenshot and choose Full Page in the screenshot editor. This option is available only where the app supports a full-page capture; an ordinary screenshot cannot automatically include content that was never rendered.
Print from the iPhone
- Open the screenshot in Photos, or open the app containing the image.
- Tap Share and choose the app’s Print action, if offered.
- Select an available printer and set the number of copies and other options shown by the print workflow.
- Confirm the print job.
Printer discovery and setup vary by device and printer. Follow the printer manufacturer’s setup instructions rather than assuming every model supports the same phone connection.

Android: use the standard shortcut or your manufacturer’s control
Capture and find the image
- Press Power+Volume Down at the same time and release.
- If that does not work, open the power menu and tap Screenshot when your phone provides that option.
- Use the preview to edit or share the image.
- Find saved captures in Google Photos > Collections > On this device > Screenshots. Older Android versions may use the Gallery app’s Screenshots album.
Buttons and menu labels can differ by manufacturer. If neither method works, check the phone maker’s support instructions for your exact model.
Take a scrolling screenshot
On Android 12 and later, most screens that support scrolling show Capture more after you take a screenshot. Tap it, extend the selection through the content you need, and save. The option is not available on every app or screen.
Print an Android screenshot
- Open the image in Photos, Gallery, or a file manager.
- Tap Share or the three-dot menu and choose Print when available.
- Select the printer destination and adjust the settings offered by your phone.
- Send the job to the printer.
Chromebook: use Screen Capture and print from Downloads
Capture the screen
- Press the dedicated Screenshot key if your keyboard has one.
- Otherwise press Shift+Ctrl+Show windows. With an external keyboard that lacks the Show windows key, use Ctrl+Shift+F5.
- Choose full-screen, partial, or window capture.
- Drag over the area when using a partial capture, then confirm.
Chromebook saves captures to Downloads by default. To change this, open the Screen Capture controls through Settings > Screen Capture and select another folder.

- Open the image from Downloads (or your selected folder) in a print-capable app.
- Choose the app’s print command. In Chrome, Ctrl+P opens the print dialog.
- Select the printer or another available destination, adjust the settings, and print.
Print any saved screenshot from a computer
Once the image is saved, the operating system matters less than the application displaying it. Open the file, invoke the print command, choose a destination, and check the preview. On Windows or Linux in Chrome, press Ctrl+P; on Mac, press Command+P. If the image is very wide or tall, select a suitable orientation and scaling mode. “Fit to page” avoids clipping but may make text smaller; enlarging to fill the page can cut off edges.

Troubleshooting missing captures and failed prints
The screenshot is nowhere to be found
- Check the clipboard by pasting into Paint, Preview, a document, or an image editor.
- Check the platform default: Windows’ folder chosen in Snipping Tool, the Mac Desktop, Android’s Screenshots album, or Chromebook Downloads.
- Look for a custom save location configured in the Screenshot app or Screen Capture settings.
- Search by the time created or image extension if you saved without noting the folder.
The shortcut does nothing
Confirm that you are pressing the keys simultaneously and releasing them as required. On Android, use the manufacturer’s instructions. On Chromebook, try the alternate shortcut for an external keyboard. A managed work or school device may restrict capture commands.

The image is blank or incomplete
Some protected apps and media windows disallow screenshots. Capture only content you are authorized to copy; do not promise a workaround for a protected window. For webpages, wait until content finishes loading and use a supported full-page or scrolling option rather than a normal viewport capture.
The print option is missing
Open the file in another print-capable app, such as Preview, Photos, Paint, or Chrome. A screenshot viewer may only preview images and not provide printing.
The printer is unavailable or the page is clipped
Verify that the printer is installed and selected as the destination, then follow its manufacturer’s setup instructions. In the print dialog, choose the correct paper size and orientation and use a fit-to-page option when preserving the entire screenshot matters more than maximum size.

Practical print checks
- Crop browser tabs, notifications, and unrelated windows before printing.
- Use landscape orientation for wide dashboards and portrait for ordinary pages.
- Check scale and margins so labels are readable and edges are not cut off.
- Print a single test page when the screenshot is large or expensive to reproduce.
- If you do not have a printer, choose another destination offered by your print dialog, such as a saved PDF, and print later from a configured printer.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I print a screenshot without saving it first?
Yes. If the capture is on the clipboard, paste it into a print-capable app and print from there. Saving first is safer when you need to reprint or locate the image later.
Why is my scrolling screenshot option unavailable?
Scrolling or Full Page capture appears only on supported screens and apps. Take a normal screenshot or capture the content in sections when the app does not expose the option.
Do I need a special screenshot app?
