Start with your browser’s built-in tool: Microsoft Edge uses Ctrl+Shift+S followed by Capture full page, while Firefox’s screenshot tool offers Save full page. If your browser lacks a suitable native command, install an extension from its official add-on store.
Full-screen versus visible-area screenshots
A normal screenshot records only the current viewport. A full-page capture scrolls through the document and joins those sections into one image (or, depending on the tool, a PDF). It is useful for saving an article, documenting a long settings page, reviewing a design, or sharing a page without asking someone to scroll through several images.
These captures are not guaranteed to include every interactive state. Content that appears only after a click, login, or delayed script may require preparation before you start. Fixed headers, animated widgets, lazy-loaded images and very long documents can also produce seams or repeated elements.
Use the browser’s built-in full-page feature first
Microsoft Edge
- Open the page and wait for its important content to load.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+S.
- In the screenshot controls, choose Capture full page.
- Review the resulting capture, then save or download it using Edge’s controls.
Microsoft documents this command as capturing the entire webpage beyond the screen without manual scrolling. The exact controls and availability can vary by device, market and browser version, so update Edge or check its current help page if the shortcut does nothing. If another application or extension already uses the shortcut, open the screenshot command from Edge’s menu instead.

Firefox
- Open the Firefox screenshot tool from the page context menu or browser menu.
- Select Save full page.
- Wait for Firefox to assemble the page.
- Download the image from the preview.
Firefox’s documented screenshot tool separates Save full page from a visible-area or selected-area capture. If the command is missing, verify your Firefox version and use the current Mozilla Support instructions; labels can change between releases.
Install and use a full-page extension
Choose from the official store
- Identify your browser and version.
- Open that browser’s official extension or add-on store.
- Search for a full-page screenshot extension and read the current listing, permissions and privacy policy.
- Confirm that its export formats and page-size limits match your need.
- Install it, pin its toolbar icon if useful, and grant only the permissions you understand.
An extension may need access to the page contents in order to scroll and assemble the capture. The listings and policies are the authoritative place to see what a particular extension requests; do not assume every extension has the same permissions or data practices.
GoFullPage example
The GoFullPage Firefox listing describes two ways to start: click its extension icon or press Alt+Shift+P. It scrolls through the page, assembles the sections, and provides image or PDF downloads. Its listing warns that exceptionally large pages can be split into multiple images. The Chrome Web Store listing also describes full-page capture and records a changelog entry dated 2025-03-19; treat those details as listing-specific and check the current entry before relying on them.

- Open the target page and close overlays that you do not want recorded.
- Click the GoFullPage icon, or press Alt+Shift+P in Firefox.
- Do not scroll manually while the extension is working.
- When its result view appears, inspect the image and choose the available image or PDF download.
- For an exceptionally long page, look for multiple output files and check their order.
Other store listings expose different controls and formats, such as PNG, JPEG or PDF. Do not generalize one extension’s behavior to all of them.

Before starting
- Wait for fonts, images and charts to finish loading.
- Expand accordions, tabs or “read more” sections whose content must appear.
- Set the page zoom and theme you want recorded.
- Dismiss cookie notices, newsletter prompts and chat bubbles when they obscure content.
- Sign in only when necessary, and never capture passwords, payment details, private messages or confidential work.
After the capture
Inspect the top, middle and bottom rather than trusting the preview alone. Check for blank regions, duplicated fixed headers, missing lazy-loaded images, clipped tables and animation frames. If the result is wrong, reload the page, wait longer, disable an interfering extension, or try the browser-native method. A protected page, cross-origin frame or bot check may prevent any extension from capturing it; an extension is not a way around browser security or access controls.

For any option, compatibility, dynamic-page handling and privacy disclosures matter more than a generic “best extension” label. Store listings change, so review the current version and permissions immediately before installation.

Troubleshooting full-page screenshots
The command or icon is missing
Confirm that you are using the intended browser, not a webview inside another application. Update the browser, check shortcut conflicts and open the screenshot command from the browser menu. If the extension was disabled, inspect its extensions page and the official store listing.
The result stops at the viewport
You selected a visible-area mode rather than full-page mode. In Edge choose Capture full page; in Firefox choose Save full page. In an extension, reopen its menu and select the full-page command rather than visible or selected area.
Images or text are missing
Lazy content may load only when scrolled. Reload, wait for the page to settle, expand required sections and retry. Network failures, an authenticated resource, or a script that refuses automated scrolling can still leave gaps.

Headers or chat widgets repeat
Fixed-position elements can be painted in every scrolled section. Hide or close them before capture if the page permits it, or use an extension that offers a hide-element control. Retake the image and inspect several sections.
The page is split or the browser becomes unresponsive
Very long pages require substantial memory. GoFullPage’s Firefox listing specifically warns that exceptionally large captures may be split into multiple images. Save each part, verify its sequence, and consider capturing logical sections or exporting a PDF when a single raster image is impractical.
A private or protected page will not capture
Check that you are signed in to the correct account and that the content is permitted to be captured. Do not attempt to bypass a CAPTCHA, bot check, paywall or browser security restriction. Ask the site owner for an approved export when necessary.
