Firefox saves the capture as a PNG. On Windows or Linux use Ctrl+Shift+S; on macOS use Command+Shift+S.
If you need a remote, repeatable workflow, an online URL capture service can render a URL as PNG, JPEG, or PDF. The right method depends on whether the page is public, whether content is loaded dynamically, and whether you need an image or a document.
Choose the right way to capture the page

A full-page screenshot includes content below the visible viewport. A normal screen capture usually records only what is currently visible.
Save a full webpage as a PNG in Firefox
- Open the webpage in Firefox and wait for the visible content to finish loading.
- Right-click an empty part of the page. On macOS, Control-click if necessary.
- Choose Take Screenshot.
- Choose Save full page to include content below the fold. Choose Save visible for only the current viewport.
- Click Download to save a PNG. You can also select a region or an automatically highlighted page element, or click Copy to place the capture on your clipboard.
Firefox names a downloaded screenshot using the date, time, and page title. For a long page, inspect the bottom of the resulting image: animated sections, lazy-loaded images, and content that appears only after interaction may not render exactly as it does during browsing.

Use Firefox Developer Tools for advanced captures
Firefox Developer Tools provides more control when the regular screenshot menu is not enough.
Enable the screenshot toolbar button
- Open Firefox Developer Tools.
- Open Developer Tools settings.
- Under Available Toolbox Buttons, enable the screenshot button.
- Use the button to capture the entire page or a selected element.
Use the Web Console screenshot helper
Firefox’s Web Console includes a :screenshot helper. Its documented options include:
--fullpageto capture the complete page.--delayto wait before capture.--dprto set device-pixel ratio.--filenameto choose the output filename.--clipboardto copy the result instead of saving it directly.
This is a Firefox-specific developer feature, not a universal command available in every browser.
Save a URL as an image with an online tool
- Open the URL-capture service in your browser.
- Paste the webpage’s public URL.
- Choose PNG, JPEG, or PDF.
- Set any available delay, then start the capture.
- Download the returned file and check the top, middle, and bottom of a long page.
The cited online service describes PNG as the choice when visual fidelity matters, JPEG as a smaller compressed image, and PDF as useful for very long pages or document-style sharing. These are the service’s own recommendations, not a controlled comparison. A capture delay can give lazy-loaded content time to appear, but no remote service is guaranteed to reproduce every interactive page perfectly.

Do not send private pages blindly
Entering a URL does not prove that a service can access a page behind your login. For account dashboards, private documents, or pages containing personal data, use a local browser capture unless you have reviewed the online service’s privacy and authentication terms. A public URL can still expose information through query parameters, analytics, or embedded content, so treat the address as sensitive when appropriate.
Use a browser extension for repeat work
OpenCapture says its Chrome, Edge, and Firefox extension can capture full pages, crop, annotate, blur, and export PNG or PDF locally. The vendor states, Nothing is uploaded — the extension runs entirely in your browser.
That is a vendor claim, not an independent audit. The same vendor says the listed functions are free and that an optional tiled-watermark feature is paid. Check the current store listing, permissions, compatibility, privacy policy, and pricing before installing; extension details can change.
PNG, JPEG, or PDF?
- PNG: choose it for sharp text, diagrams, UI screenshots, and maximum visual detail.
- JPEG: choose it when a smaller file matters and some compression is acceptable.
- PDF: choose it for printing, document-style sharing, or exceptionally long pages. A PDF is not an image file.
If a recipient specifically requests an image, use PNG or JPEG rather than converting a PDF later.
Make dynamic pages capture more reliably
- Wait for the page’s main content and images to load before starting.
- Scroll through the page once so lazy-loaded sections are requested.
- Use a capture delay in an online service or Firefox’s
:screenshot --delayoption. - Close menus, cookie dialogs, chat bubbles, and temporary overlays before a local capture.
- For interactive charts, carousels, and videos, capture the state you actually need; a screenshot cannot preserve interaction.
- Check exceptionally long pages in sections. A browser or service may struggle with very tall canvases, and the online tool’s page lists inconsistent pixel thresholds, so those numbers should not be treated as a settled limit.

Choose Save full page in Firefox rather than Save visible. In a URL service, select its full-page option if one is provided.

Scroll through the page first, add a delay, and retry. Lazy loading, blocked third-party resources, or JavaScript timing can prevent content from appearing.

A cookie banner or chat widget covers the page

The page requires a login
Use a local browser session unless the service explicitly documents authenticated requests and you have approved its privacy terms. A URL-only workflow should not be assumed to inherit your browser login.
The file is too large
Use JPEG when moderate compression is acceptable, reduce the viewport or device-pixel ratio, or capture a selected element instead of the entire page. For document sharing, PDF may be more practical than one extremely tall image.
The remote result is blank or fails

Privacy and reliability checklist
- Confirm whether processing is local or remote.
- Remove passwords, tokens, and private query parameters from URLs before sharing them.
- Review extension permissions and current service privacy terms.
- For evidence or documentation, record the page URL, capture date, browser or service, output format, and any delay used.
- Open the final file independently; a successful download does not guarantee that every dynamic section rendered.

Can I save just one element instead of the whole webpage?
