On desktop, use Chrome’s Save as PDF, Firefox’s Save to PDF, or Edge’s print dialog. On Android, Chrome reaches the same option through More → Share → Print; Firefox can save pages to Downloads. Safari on iPhone has Apple’s documented annotate-and-save webpage workflow.
Print preview matters: a PDF is a printable copy, not a guarantee that every interactive element, live update, or screen-only style will remain exactly as seen in the browser.
Capture a web page as a PDF on a desktop
Use the browser’s built-in print workflow. You do not need a physical printer or special hardware.
Google Chrome (Windows, macOS, Linux)
- Open the page you want to keep.
- Open Chrome’s print command (you can also use the browser menu).
- In the destination/printer selector, choose Save as PDF.
- Check the preview, page range, orientation, paper size, margins, and background-graphics setting available in your dialog.
- Choose Save, select a folder, name the file, and confirm.
Chrome’s computer help documents this Save as PDF route. Preview the result before closing the tab, especially for pages with columns, advertising, or lazy-loaded images.

Mozilla Firefox
- Open the page and choose Firefox’s Print command.
- In the print preview, open the destination dropdown.
- Select Save to PDF.
- Set the page range and other print options, then save the file.
Mozilla also documents an extension-based approach for editing page content before printing. Treat that as optional: use it only when the normal print preview contains material you need to remove or rearrange.
Microsoft Edge
- Open the page.
- Open Print from the Edge menu, or press Ctrl+P on Windows or Command+P on Mac.
- Choose the system or browser PDF destination offered by your installation.
- Review the preview and save the file.
Edge also supports printing a selected portion of a page. On supported sites, open Immersive Reader first for a less cluttered reading view, then print that view. Microsoft cautions that Immersive Reader is not available on every website.
Save a web page as a PDF on Android
Chrome for Android
- Open the webpage in Chrome.
- Tap More, then Share, and choose Print.
- In the print controls, select Save as PDF.
- Choose the storage location, then save.
The exact picker and folder names can vary by Android version and device manufacturer. Confirm the destination shown by the save dialog rather than assuming it is a particular folder.

Firefox for Android
Firefox for Android provides a save-webpage-as-PDF command and documents storing the resulting file in Downloads. Open the page, use Firefox’s page actions, select the PDF save option, and verify the file in Downloads.

Save a webpage from Safari on iPhone
Apple’s Safari guide documents annotating and saving a webpage as a PDF. Open the page in Safari, use Safari’s share/action controls, choose the documented webpage PDF option, make any annotations offered by the interface, and save or share the resulting document. Apple changes labels between iOS releases, so follow the current controls shown on Apple Support rather than relying on an older screenshot or a fixed button name.
Make the PDF readable before you save it
Inspect print preview, not just the live page
Headers, navigation bars, cookie notices, sidebars, ads, and responsive columns can move or disappear in print layout. Scroll through the preview and check the first page, a middle page, and the final page. If an image or table is missing, return to the webpage, allow it to finish loading, and reopen print preview.

Use a cleaner source view when available
Edge’s Immersive Reader can remove surrounding clutter on supported sites before printing. Firefox’s guidance also notes that an editing extension can alter page content before printing. Availability and behavior differ by site, so treat these as workarounds rather than universal modes.
Print only what you are entitled to save
Use page ranges or Edge’s selected-content printing when you need an excerpt. A selection may lose context such as the article title, source, or footnotes; include those manually if the PDF is for formal sharing.
What a browser PDF does—and does not—preserve
- It preserves the printable representation generated by the browser at the time you save it.
- It may not preserve interactive controls, animations, video playback, live data, hover states, or content that appears only after an interaction.
- Web fonts, background colors, lazy-loaded images, and responsive layouts can render differently from the normal browser view.
- Login state, region, cookies, and consent choices can change what appears in the print preview.
For an archival record, record the page URL and capture date alongside the PDF. For a page that must remain interactive, keep the original link as well.

Troubleshooting common capture problems
The PDF is blank or missing the article
- Wait for the page and its images to finish loading, then reopen print preview.
- Try the browser’s normal print command instead of a website-provided print button.
- If the page is script-heavy, reload it and check whether content appears before printing.
Cookie banners, chat bubbles, or ads cover the output
- Dismiss the banner or close the widget before opening print preview.
- Use Edge Immersive Reader where the site supports it.
- In Firefox, consider an editing extension only if you need to change the page before printing.
Only part of a long page appears
- Choose the full-page or all-pages range in the print dialog.
- Scroll through the page first so lazy-loaded sections have a chance to load.
- Check whether the site places the article inside a scrollable panel; printing the outer page may not include that panel’s entire contents.
Layout is cut off or too wide
- Switch between portrait and landscape.
- Reduce scale or margins in the preview.
- Use a reader view or selected-content print when sidebars are forcing a narrow text column.
There is no “Microsoft Print to PDF” option on older Windows
The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau notes that a browser can often print directly to PDF, including Chrome’s Save as PDF, when an older Windows installation does not expose that printer entry. The exact choices depend on the installed browser and operating system.
