Generating Video, PDFs, and Images with the Warp MCP Server

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Warp does not render images, PDFs, or videos by itself. Warp supplies an agent environment and MCP (Model Context Protocol) connectivity; a connected service such as Orshot provides the template-rendering tools. The practical workflow is: add the provider’s MCP endpoint to Warp, give the agent a template and data, ask for an output, then download or inspect the resulting file.

This distinction matters because MCP defines how an agent calls external tools, not which media formats a tool must generate. Warp’s own description says that connecting an MCP server lets Warp access external data and services in Agent Mode conversations (Warp, June 4, 2025).

What the Warp–MCP workflow actually does

Warp can run an agent through the desktop app, standalone CLI, or cloud agents. Its current documentation says Warp Drive, Rules, and MCP servers are shared across local and cloud agents (Warp getting started). An MCP server then exposes named tools. The agent decides when to call those tools and supplies arguments such as a template identifier, variables, output type, or destination.

For the media workflow documented by Orshot, Orshot hosts the rendering service and Warp is the client. Orshot’s landing page presents a hosted MCP endpoint for image, PDF, and video generation from templates and shows a Warp connection example (Orshot’s Warp integration). Treat all template, authentication, output-format, credit, and regional details as provider-specific and verify them in the provider’s current documentation before deploying.

What MCP does not guarantee

  • It does not define a universal image, PDF, or video renderer.
  • It does not make every server support the same template syntax or output formats.
  • It does not automatically copy secrets between your local machine and a remote Warp agent.

Warp’s CLI reference explicitly warns that local and remote environment variables in a server configuration do not synchronize automatically. A cloud or remote run may therefore need its credentials supplied separately (Warp MCP CLI reference).

Before you connect a rendering server

  • A current Warp installation and an account permitted to run Agent Mode or the Warp Agent CLI.
  • An account and templates with the rendering provider. Orshot advertises 30 free credits on its landing page; the page does not state a validity period, eligibility rules, or detailed limits, so confirm those terms before relying on them.
  • The provider’s current MCP URL, transport, authentication method, supported template formats, and output options.
  • A safe place to store API keys. Do not paste a production secret into a chat transcript or commit it to a configuration file that others can read.

Add an MCP server to Warp

Warp’s CLI reference says its --mcp flag accepts four forms: a server UUID, a Warp-managed integration ID, inline JSON, or a path to a JSON configuration file. You can repeat the flag to combine servers (MCP servers CLI reference).

Option 1: a provider-managed integration

If Warp or the provider offers a managed integration, use the integration’s identifier in the command or UI shown by the current Warp documentation. Managed IDs are distinct from arbitrary URLs; the reference lists examples such as Linear, Slack, and Jira, with contextual restrictions for some integrations. Those examples are not required for Orshot and should not be assumed to apply to it.

Option 2: an inline JSON definition

For a custom endpoint, pass a JSON server definition to --mcp. The exact property names and authentication fields must match the version of Warp and the provider. A generic shape is:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
warp --mcp '{"name":"media-renderer","url":"https://provider.example/mcp","transport":"streamable-http"}'

Do not copy this as an Orshot authentication recipe. Orshot’s search result identifies https://mcp.orshot.com/mcp and describes a Streamable HTTP connection, but the full page was not available for verifying the current authentication fields. Confirm the endpoint and required headers with Orshot before use.

Option 3: a JSON configuration file

Keeping configuration in a file is easier when you have several servers or need to review changes. Use the schema in Warp’s current CLI reference; the following illustrates the idea without asserting provider-specific keys:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "media-renderer": {
      "url": "https://provider.example/mcp",
      "transport": "streamable-http"
    }
  }
}

Run the Warp command with the file path in the form documented for your installed CLI. Keep secrets in the environment or the provider’s supported secret store rather than in a shared file.

Option 4: a UUID

If an administrator gives you an MCP server UUID, supply that UUID with --mcp instead of writing a URL. This is useful for a server already registered in your Warp account.

Combining servers

Because the flag can be repeated, one agent can use a data source and a renderer in the same run. For example, you might attach a project-management server to obtain weekly metrics and a media server to turn those metrics into a report. Check each server’s authorization scope before allowing the agent to pass data between them.

Connect Orshot’s hosted renderer

Orshot’s page is the directly relevant example for generating images, PDFs, and videos from templates in Warp. Its search listing gives the endpoint https://mcp.orshot.com/mcp and says to use a Streamable HTTP connection (Orshot). Because endpoint behavior and setup requirements can change, open the provider’s current instructions and verify:

  • the exact server URL and transport label;
  • whether an API key, OAuth flow, or another credential is required;
  • how templates are identified and which variables they accept;
  • which image, PDF, and video formats are available;
  • where completed files are returned and how long download links remain valid;
  • credit consumption, expiry, concurrency, and regional availability.

Once the server is connected, start with a non-sensitive template and ask Warp to list or describe the tools it can see. If no tools appear, stop and fix the connection rather than asking the agent to guess an API.

Prompt the agent for a render

The following are prompt patterns, not guaranteed command names. They follow the use cases shown on Orshot’s marketing page and should be adapted to the tools and template fields your account exposes.

Generate a weekly-report PDF

Use the weekly-report template. Set the title to "Support metrics — week 39".
Populate total_tickets, resolved_tickets, and csat from the values I provide.
Render a PDF and return the completed file or download URL. Tell me which
fields were missing before you start.

Create a product graphic

Use the Shopify product-media template for product SKU 1842.
Set the product name, price, and background image from the attached values.
Render the final graphic in the template's supported image format and report
any validation errors.

Render a video variant

Use the launch-video template with the supplied logo, headline, and scenes.
Create the shortest supported video output, preserve the template's aspect ratio,
and return the job status and final download location.

Ask the agent to validate required fields before rendering. For repeatable production, store the prompt, template version, input data, and returned job identifier in your own system. A human should review brand-sensitive output before publication.

Viewing files in Warp is separate from generating them

Warp’s May 14, 2025 product post describes Kitty image-protocol support for viewing images and videos in the terminal (Warp Launch Log 2). That display capability is not a renderer. A connected MCP service must create the file first; Warp may then show a local file or a downloaded result if the format and terminal support it. A PDF may open in an external viewer instead of rendering inline.

Local agents, cloud agents, and credentials

Use a local run while you are testing templates and inspecting files. Use a cloud agent only after confirming that the MCP server is reachable from that environment and that all required credentials are available there. Warp’s documentation says account context, rules, skills, and model access are shared across its agent surfaces, but server-side environment variables still need deliberate configuration.

Limit the server’s permissions where possible. A renderer generally needs template and asset access, not unrestricted access to your filesystem or unrelated production APIs. Rotate a key if it appears in a transcript, shell history, CI log, or configuration committed to source control.

Troubleshooting

The agent cannot see any media tools

Confirm that the server URL is current, the transport is the one the provider requires, and the server was actually included in the Warp invocation or configuration. Reconnect after editing the file. If a managed integration is used, verify that the integration is enabled for the account or workspace.

Connection or handshake errors

Check DNS, firewall, proxy, TLS inspection, and outbound access from the machine or cloud environment running Warp. A URL that works in your browser may still be blocked for a remote agent. Recheck required headers and authentication with the provider instead of inventing fields.

Authentication succeeds locally but fails in the cloud

Provide the credential through the cloud environment’s supported secret mechanism. Warp states that local and remote environment variables do not sync automatically.

Template variables are rejected

Ask the server for the template schema or inspect the provider’s template editor. Match names and data types exactly, provide required assets, and have the agent validate before submitting a render.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The output is blank, cropped, or has missing fonts

Check the template’s asset URLs, font availability, aspect ratio, and safe-area settings. Render a minimal test with one text field and one image to isolate data, template, and renderer problems.

A job remains pending

Record the job ID, check the provider’s status tool or dashboard, and look for quota, concurrency, or asset-download errors. Do not submit repeated jobs until you know whether the first job is still running; duplicates can consume credits.

The old Oz command no longer behaves as expected

Warp’s CLI reference says the Oz binary is being deprecated in favor of the warp Warp Agent CLI and that Oz commands are supported through the end of September 2026. That date is now imminent, so use the current CLI documentation rather than treating oz agent run as the forward-looking command.

Or skip the browser setup

If your immediate need is a clean screenshot rather than a template-generated video or PDF, ScreenshotNeo provides a website screenshot API and MCP server. It accepts a URL and returns PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. Cookie and consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets are removed before capture; bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing result.

Practical limits and verification checklist

  • Verify Orshot’s endpoint and authentication immediately before implementation.
  • Confirm whether your chosen template supports the required image, PDF, or video output.
  • Check credit accounting, expiration, concurrency, and maximum render duration.
  • Test from every execution location you will use: local Warp, CI, and cloud agents.
  • Keep a record of template version, input payload, job ID, output URL, and review status.
  • Remove secrets and personal data from prompts and logs that do not need them.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Warp natively generate videos, PDFs, and images?

No. Warp provides the agent and MCP connection; a connected external server performs the rendering.

Can I use more than one MCP server in Warp?

Yes. Warp’s CLI reference says the --mcp flag can be repeated, allowing configurations to be combined.

Is Orshot’s 30-credit offer guaranteed?

Orshot advertises 30 free credits on its landing page, but validity, eligibility, and detailed limits are not stated there; verify the current terms directly.
