Usually no as a new purchase, but it can be a good low-priced used phone. The Galaxy M52 5G still combines a lightweight 173g body, a 6.7-inch 120Hz Super AMOLED Plus display, Snapdragon 778G performance, microSD expansion and a 5,000mAh battery. Its weak low-light cameras, mono speaker, absent IP rating, lack of optical stabilization, modest charging and aging software support are serious disadvantages in 2026.
For model SM-M526B, Samsung’s official update record lists Android 13 and build M526BXXS7CYD2, released May 20, 2025 with the May 1, 2025 security patch. Update availability varies by model, country and carrier, so this is not a promise that every regional M52 has the same software.

Design and everyday handling
The M52 is unusually light for a 6.7-inch phone. At 173g and 7.4mm, it is comfortable to carry and less tiring during long video, reading or gaming sessions than many large phones. The side-mounted fingerprint reader is quick and conveniently placed.

The trade-off is a glossy plastic rear panel. It collects fingerprints, can scratch, and feels less premium than glass-backed rivals. Its large camera area and thin body can also make the phone less stable when taking photos. The phone has no documented IP water- or dust-resistance rating, so treat it as unprotected from water. The screen size makes one-handed use difficult despite the low weight.
Display: the M52’s strongest feature
The 6.7-inch 1080 × 2400 Super AMOLED Plus panel delivers deep contrast, vivid color and smooth scrolling at 120Hz. Reviews from SamMobile and Notebookcheck identify it as one of the phone’s principal advantages for streaming, social media and compatible games.
120Hz describes the display refresh capability, not a guarantee that every game renders at 120 frames per second. Game settings, thermals and software optimization determine actual frame rates. Protection glass is unresolved in the available documentation: Gadgets 360 lists Gorilla Glass, Notebookcheck says Gorilla Glass is not used, and Samsung’s regional specification page does not identify the glass brand. Buy a case and screen protector rather than relying on an assumed specification.
Performance and gaming
The Snapdragon 778G remains capable for normal 2026 use: apps open quickly, multitasking is responsive and demanding games are playable at sensible settings. It is the M52’s main reason to consider it over cheaper Samsung phones from the same period. Wi‑Fi 6 is reported by independent reviews, alongside Sub-6 5G connectivity.

Short bursts of performance should not be confused with sustained gaming speed. Android Authority reported that Samsung’s optimization could throttle performance in some games. Heat, battery drain and game-specific settings affect results, and no current standardized frame-rate comparison is established here.
The 8GB version offers more working memory than the 6GB model. Samsung’s RAM Plus virtual-memory feature, reported at up to 4GB, uses storage and cannot substitute for physical RAM when gaming or multitasking.
Cameras: usable in daylight, limited after dark
Hardware
The rear array consists of a 64MP f/1.8 main camera, 12MP f/2.2 ultrawide and 5MP f/2.4 macro camera. A 32MP f/2.2 camera handles selfies. The main camera can produce attractive, social-media-ready daylight color, and the ultrawide is useful for landscapes and groups in good light.
Where it falls short
There is no optical image stabilization. Indoor and night images can become soft or noisy, especially with moving people or pets. The macro camera adds little compared with a telephoto lens or a better-stabilized main camera. Independent reviews were substantially more critical of the cameras than of the display or processor.

- Android 13.0 Operating System: Runs on the latest Android OS for smooth performance and up-to-date features.
- Bluetooth 5.0 and Wi-Fi 802.11ac: Stay connected with others wirelessly and stream content at high speeds.
- 6.6" AMOLED Display: View vivid content on a large, high-resolution screen.
- Quad Camera Array: Capture stunning photos and 4K video with the advanced camera system.
- Long Battery Life: Power through the day on a large 5000mAh battery.
Video features and stabilization can vary by regional firmware, so verify the exact model before buying if 4K recording or front-camera video is important. Do not treat the 64MP and 32MP numbers as evidence that this is a camera-first phone.
Battery life and charging
The 5,000mAh battery was a strong launch feature. SamMobile reported a full day under heavy use and up to roughly a day and a half with mixed heavy and light use. In that review, a 25W charger reached about 45% in 30 minutes. The review package included a 15W charger, however, and a full charge took more than two hours. Box contents vary by market.
Charging is modest by 2026 standards, and a used unit may have substantially less capacity after several years. Before buying, check for rapid drain, unusual heat, repeated charging disconnections, a loose USB-C port and a lifting rear panel. A lifting panel can indicate battery swelling; stop using such a device and have it inspected rather than attempting to press it closed.
Software and update support
The phone launched on Android 11 with One UI 3.x. For the specific model SM-M526B, Samsung’s official update history lists Android 13, One UI 5.1 history, build M526BXXS7CYD2, a May 20, 2025 release date and a May 1, 2025 security patch. No newer Android version should be assumed from that record.

- US Model – Global Connectivity – Compatible with Most GSM Carriers like T-Mobile, AT&T, MetroPCS, etc. Will Also work with CDMA Carriers Such as Verizon, Straight Talk.
Regional variants, including SM-M526BR, have separate update pages. Samsung says timing and contents vary by model, country and service provider. Check the phone’s exact model in Settings before purchase and compare it with Samsung’s regional page. An old security patch is a material disadvantage for a phone purchased in 2026, even if the hardware remains fast enough.
SamMobile reports Always On Display, screen recording, Dual Messenger, Secure Folder and Samsung Pay where supported. The M52 does not support Samsung DeX.
Connectivity, audio and expansion
Depending on region, the M52 offers Sub-6 5G, NFC, Bluetooth 5.0, Wi‑Fi 6, dual-SIM functionality and microSD expansion. Expandable storage remains useful for photos, video and offline media. The single speaker is a clear downgrade from phones with stereo audio.
Network bands are not universal. Notebookcheck found that its European variant lacked LTE bands 13 and 25, which can matter in the United States. A US buyer should verify the exact model’s LTE and 5G bands, VoLTE, Wi‑Fi calling and carrier approval. Do not assume that an imported phone labelled “5G” will work optimally on every network. Headphone-jack availability should also be checked for the specific regional version rather than inferred from another market’s specification.

Galaxy M52 5G versus alternatives
| Phone | Why it may be preferable | What the M52 does better |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy A52s 5G | More balanced feature set, stereo speakers, IP-rated protection and OIS on the main camera in relevant models | Large 6.7-inch screen and similarly strong Snapdragon 778G performance |
| Galaxy A52 5G | Stereo speakers, IP protection and OIS; more complete ownership experience | Potentially stronger performance and larger display |
| Galaxy M51 | Much larger 7,000mAh battery for endurance-focused buyers | Thinner, lighter body, 120Hz display and 5G |
| Current Samsung A-series | Newer battery, warranty, availability and longer remaining software support | The M52 may be cheaper and still offers microSD and a 120Hz AMOLED screen |
The A52s and A52 are also discontinued-era phones, so their battery condition and update records must be checked. A newer current model is generally the safer long-term purchase, but exact model and price comparisons require checking the market at the time of purchase.
Used-buying checklist
- Confirm the exact model number, region, storage and supported LTE/5G bands.
- Install the latest update available for that model and inspect its security-patch date.
- Test the OLED panel for burn-in, green lines, dead pixels and uneven brightness.
- Run the fingerprint reader, every camera, autofocus, flash, speaker, microphone, NFC and both SIM slots.
- Charge it for several minutes with a known-good cable; watch for heat, disconnects or a loose port.
- Check battery behavior during setup and video playback, and reject a phone with a lifting rear cover.
- Inspect for impact damage, poor screen replacement, liquid indicators and scratches around the USB-C port.
- Confirm that the device is not carrier- or region-locked and that it can make calls using your carrier’s VoLTE and Wi‑Fi calling.
Individual failure anecdotes do not establish a universal defect rate. They do, however, make a careful inspection important on a phone launched in September 2021.
Who should buy it?
- Consider it when you want a large 120Hz AMOLED display, Snapdragon 778G performance and microSD storage at a substantial used-market discount.
- Consider it as a temporary or secondary phone if the battery is healthy and your carrier compatibility is confirmed.
- Skip it if you need long security support, dependable night photography, water resistance, stereo speakers, very fast charging or a new warranty.
- Skip it when its price approaches that of a newer phone, or when the seller cannot verify the model and network bands.
2026 buying verdict
The Galaxy M52 5G remains an appealing piece of hardware in specific circumstances: it is light, its 120Hz AMOLED display is excellent, and Snapdragon 778G performance is still competent. Expandable storage and good original battery endurance add practical value.
Those strengths do not outweigh its dated update record, aging batteries, weak cameras, mono speaker, absent IP rating, missing OIS and region-dependent network compatibility for most new buyers. Samsung’s regional store no longer presents the M52 as a normal current product, and marketplace availability can be inconsistent. Buy one only when it is clearly cheaper than newer alternatives, in excellent condition, with its model and carrier compatibility verified. Existing owners can reasonably keep using a healthy unit, but buyers seeking long support or a dependable camera should choose a newer phone.
