Samsung updated the Galaxy Tab S9 FE+ to One UI 6.1 based on Android 14. The device-specific rollout was recorded on May 27, 2024, bringing Gallery tools, personalization changes, multitasking improvements, battery-protection modes and connectivity updates. One UI 6.1 is now an earlier release: Samsung’s update history shows the tablet moving on to Android 16 and One UI 8-era firmware by July 2026.
When did One UI 6.1 reach the Galaxy Tab S9 FE+?
Samsung announced the broader One UI 6.1 rollout on February 22, 2024, saying Galaxy Tab S9-series updates would begin from the end of March. That announcement date was not the delivery date for every tablet. Samsung’s device changelog records the Galaxy Tab S9 FE+ upgrade on May 27, 2024.

Samsung stages firmware by country, carrier and configuration, so a report for SM-X616B does not prove that the same package is available for SM-X610. Check Settings → About tablet before comparing build numbers. The 5G changelog is available at Samsung’s SM-X616B update page.
What One UI 6.1 changed
The model-specific changelog is a safer feature reference than a generic Galaxy AI list. These are the practical changes Samsung documented for the FE+ rollout.

Gallery and image editing
- Copy and paste a clipped object from one image into another.
- More accurate clipping, with the selected area editable after it is chosen.
- Gallery search categories for people, places, albums and stories.
- Additional playback-speed controls in Gallery video editing.
- Transfer Studio projects between Galaxy phones, tablets and PCs.
Wallpapers, Lock screen and personalisation
- New wallpaper frames and effects.
- Depth effects for wallpapers containing people or animals.
- More Lock screen and Always On Display widgets.
- Custom alarm screens using images, videos or AR Emoji.
- More Calendar stickers and redesigned Calendar settings.
- New Reminder alert backgrounds and category controls.
- Modes widgets and additional Modes and Routines triggers.
Sharing, Internet and productivity
- Quick Share is merged with Google’s Nearby Share for broader Android compatibility.
- Samsung Internet tab groups can sync across signed-in Galaxy devices.
- Samsung Cloud offers end-to-end encryption options.
- Samsung Internet supports passkey sign-in.
- A keyboard shortcut opens split-screen mode.
- Minimized apps can be reopened together.
- Finder can show Google search suggestions.
- Video-call effects and Mic mode controls are expanded.
- Weather information and activity forecasts include more detail.
Battery and accessibility
- Basic protection charges normally.
- Adaptive protection adjusts charging behavior based on usage.
- Maximum protection stops charging at 80%, which can reduce available runtime while helping limit battery aging.
- Relumino outline improves visibility for supported content.
- Assistant menu controls are improved.
- A tap-to-answer option is available for calls.
Did the Tab S9 FE+ receive Galaxy AI?
Samsung’s February announcement said selected Galaxy AI capabilities would expand to the Galaxy Tab S9 series. It listed Circle to Search with Google, Note Assist, Browsing Assist, Transcript Assist, Generative Edit, Edit Suggestion, Instant Slow-mo, AI-generated wallpapers and communication tools such as Chat Assist and Interpreter.
That announcement describes the wider Tab S9 family, not a guarantee that every function works on every FE+ configuration. Samsung’s own warning says some Galaxy S24 features may not be available on previous-generation models. Availability can depend on the exact model, country, language, Samsung app, firmware and account status. Several tools require a Samsung Account or internet access; Browsing Assist is tied to Samsung Internet, Note Assist works with text in Samsung Notes, and Live Translate depends on the pre-installed Samsung Phone app and native dialer. AI-generated results are not guaranteed to be accurate.

Use the model-specific changelog and the feature’s own requirements rather than assuming that the complete Galaxy AI suite from a premium Galaxy phone is present.
Circle to Search and One UI 6.1.1 were separate updates
For SM-X616B, Samsung listed Circle to Search under build X616BXXU5BXGE, released August 26, 2024 with the July 1, 2024 security patch. It should not be described as a feature that every owner received in the original May installation. The same changelog lists a later One UI 6.1.1 update, build X616BXXU5BXHB, on October 7, 2024. Delivery of both updates could still vary by region and carrier.

How to check for and install the update
- Open Settings.
- Tap Software update.
- Select Download and install.
- Review the update size and changelog when Samsung offers a package.
- Connect to Wi-Fi and charge the tablet before starting.
- Tap Install now or schedule the restart.
Back up important data before a major update. If One UI 6.1 does not appear:
- Verify the model under Settings → About tablet.
- Check whether the tablet is carrier-branded or imported; it may follow its original sales region.
- Install any pending earlier update first. Samsung can require sequential firmware releases, and a missed device may receive a larger cumulative download.
- Free storage, restart the tablet and check again.
- If over-the-air delivery still fails, use Samsung Smart Switch on a computer only when it offers firmware for the correct model and region.
- Do not flash a package from another model or region because its build number looks similar.
For build dates and regional records, compare the SM-X610 firmware history and SM-X616B firmware history.

Is One UI 6.1 still current in 2026?
No. One UI 6.1 is the Android 14 generation of software. Samsung’s checked Wi-Fi history lists Android 16 and One UI 8-era firmware build X610XXSEEZG3, released July 30, 2026 with the July 5, 2026 security patch. The latest package offered to an individual tablet can differ by region, carrier and model, so owners should use Samsung’s live firmware history rather than an old rollout article.
Samsung’s One UI 8 compatibility information includes the Galaxy Tab S9 FE+, while cautioning that AI capabilities may be limited on some FE models: Samsung One UI 8 support information.
