Its removable 3,000mAh battery, 3.5mm headphone jack, Hi-Fi DAC, wide-angle selfie camera and LG Pay made it unusually well equipped for its price. In 2026, however, the Snapdragon 425, 2GB of RAM, Android Nougat-era software and uncertain carrier compatibility make it a niche used phone rather than a sensible primary device.
Do not confuse it with the separate 2019 LG X4, which has different hardware and a different launch price.
What is the LG X4 Plus?
LG announced the X4+ in South Korea on January 19, 2018, with availability through the country’s three mobile carriers later that month. The announced price was 349,800 Korean won. LG positioned it as an affordable phone with features normally associated with more expensive models, including LG Pay, a Hi-Fi DAC, fingerprint authentication, FM radio and durability testing described in relation to MIL-STD-810G.
The common model-family designation is LM-X415, with carrier suffixes such as LM-X415L and LM-X415S. Those suffixes matter: Korean carrier variants can differ in supported bands, firmware and network provisioning. The phone was sold in Moroccan Blue and Lavender Violet.

Design, screen and durability
The X4+ has an aluminum rear panel and a relatively compact 5.3-inch 16:9 body. Its 1280 × 720 IPS display is adequate for calls, messages, navigation and basic video, but it is far behind current phones in resolution, brightness, contrast and screen-to-body ratio.
LG said the phone passed six MIL-STD-810G-related categories: high temperature, low temperature, thermal shock, humidity, vibration and shock. That is a limited test claim, not a guarantee that every handset survives any drop or abuse. No IP water-resistance rating is established in the cited official material, so the X4+ should not be treated as waterproof or equivalent to a modern rugged phone.
Performance and storage in 2026
The Snapdragon 425 and 2GB of RAM are suitable for calls, texting, light browsing, music playback, simple photography and older games. Expect slow app launches, frequent reloads when switching between apps and poor results with demanding games or current camera software. Performance becomes less comfortable as the 32GB internal storage fills.

- Unlocked for GSM Carriers such as: T-Mobile and AT&T | Will NOT work with CDMA carriers: Sprint and Verizon
- 6.5" HD+ FullVision, Narrow Notch Display
- Easy-to-use Rear Triple Camera System
- 13MP PDAF Standard Angle Rear Camera | 5MP Super Wide 115° Rear Camera | 2MP Depth Camera
microSD expansion can help store music, photos and videos, but it does not turn the phone into a modern multitasking device. Do not rely on benchmark numbers from unrelated Snapdragon 425 phones; the practical limitation is the age of the processor, memory and software stack.
Cameras
Rear camera
LG specified a 13MP rear camera and promoted phase-detection autofocus, AI Camera features, out-focus selfie effects and flash-related shooting tools. These features were attractive in a low-cost 2018 phone, but they do not provide modern computational photography. Night images, stabilization, video quality and social-media results are modest by current standards.
Wide-angle front camera
The 5MP front camera’s wide field of view is the X4+’s more distinctive camera feature. It is useful for fitting several people into a selfie without a stick, but its low resolution and dated image processing limit detail, especially indoors or at night.
Hi-Fi audio, headphone jack and LG Pay
The built-in Hi-Fi DAC is the phone’s strongest hardware differentiator. LG claimed support for 32-bit/192kHz audio, and the 3.5mm jack lets compatible wired headphones use that audio path directly. The audible benefit still depends on the recording, headphones, listening environment and LG’s implementation; it does not make the external speaker high-end or automatically improve Bluetooth audio.

- This device is unlocked for T-Mobile / Sprint and will work with T-Mobile, Sprint, but is not compatible with Cricket or any other CDMA network. Not compatible with AT&T 5G network. ***
- This model does not support AT&T 5G network. ***
- Ships in non-retail box; generic charger and USB cable only. Not including other accessories.
- Condition: Certified Refurbished, may have some minor scratches or scrapes.
LG Pay was an important launch feature, but its presence in original software does not prove that cards can still be enrolled or that the service works outside its intended Korean market. Treat it as a historical capability unless the exact handset, region and current service status have been verified.
Battery and charging
The removable battery is rated at 3,000mAh and charges through micro-USB. Removability was a real convenience in 2018: owners could carry a spare or replace a worn cell instead of replacing the phone. A 2026 used handset is different. The original battery may have lost substantial capacity, and replacement cells may be aftermarket, counterfeit or difficult to return.
- Reject batteries that are swollen, unusually hot or rapidly draining.
- Check the exact LM-X415 variant before ordering a replacement.
- Do not interpret the original 3,000mAh specification as a guarantee of present-day battery life.
Software, updates and app compatibility
The X4+ launched with Android Nougat. LG Uplus listed Android 7.1.2, while some databases record Android 7.0, so the safest description is Android Nougat with carrier-specific version reporting.
No current official security-support promise or modern Android upgrade path is established for the model. In practice, app compatibility can vary with firmware, Google Play Services and region. Banking, authentication and payment applications may refuse installation or operation; security patches should not be assumed to be current. Verify the exact firmware and required apps before making the phone a daily driver.

LG X4 Plus versus the 2019 LG X4
The names are easy to confuse. The 2019 LG X4 is a separate model, not a renamed X4+. LG’s 2019 announcement is at lg.co.kr/media/release/20473.

Network compatibility: the most important used-buying risk
The reviewed sources identify Korean carrier variants but do not establish one complete LTE-band list for every suffix. A phone labeled LTE is not automatically suitable for another country. LM-X415L, LM-X415S and other variants may differ in bands, carrier aggregation, VoLTE support and provisioning.
Before purchase, verify the exact model against the intended carrier’s current LTE and VoLTE requirements, confirm that it is unlocked and check whether the network still supports the necessary legacy device features. Do not assume that a Korean model will work on a particular US or international carrier.
Used-buying checklist
- Read the model number in Settings or on the label; search for the exact LM-X415 suffix, not just “LG X4 Plus.”
- Confirm LTE bands, VoLTE and carrier acceptance for your country.
- Verify the phone is carrier-unlocked and that Google account removal has disabled factory-reset protection.
- Inspect the battery for swelling, heat and rapid drain, and ask whether it is original or replacement.
- Test the display, charging port, headphone jack, speaker, cameras, fingerprint sensor, buttons and microSD slot.
- Check Google Play and the specific apps you need before treating the device as a daily phone.
- Confirm that the listing is not actually for the 2019 LG X4.
- Do not pay extra for claims that “military-grade” means waterproof.
Who should still consider it?
Reasonable use cases
- A collector interested in LG’s 2018 Korean lineup.
- A basic secondary phone for calls, offline music and simple tasks.
- A wired-audio player where a removable battery and 3.5mm jack matter.
- A buyer who has confirmed the exact carrier variant, network compatibility and battery condition.
When to avoid it
- You need current banking, payment, authentication or security applications.
- You want a dependable primary phone in 2026.
- You expect 5G, broad international LTE compatibility, fast charging or modern gaming.
- You prioritize night photography, stabilized video or heavy multitasking.
- The seller cannot provide a model number, network history or return protection.
Verdict
The LG X4 Plus was a compelling 2018 budget phone because it combined a removable battery, wired Hi-Fi audio, wide-angle selfies, fingerprint security and LG Pay at 349,800 won. Its Snapdragon 425, 2GB of RAM and Nougat-era software now define its limits. Buy one only for a narrow secondary-device, collector or wired-audio purpose—and only after checking the exact variant, network support, account lock and battery health.
