For most buyers, the Galaxy S25 is the better-balanced phone. It is smaller, cheaper, easier to use one-handed, lasts longer between charges in typical demanding tests, and includes a dedicated 3x telephoto camera. The Galaxy S25 Edge is a design-led alternative: its 5.8-mm body, 6.7-inch QHD+ display, titanium frame and 200MP main camera are compelling, but its larger footprint, slightly smaller battery and lack of optical telephoto make it a specialist choice.
Both use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite, so the Edge is not a faster S25. You are paying primarily for thinness, screen size, materials and storage—not extra processing power.

Design and handling: thin is not the same as compact
The Edge is 1.4mm thinner, but it is 11.3mm taller and 5.1mm wider. Its 163g listed weight is effectively the same as the S25’s 162g, so the Edge is not meaningfully lighter. The thin profile can feel exceptional in a pocket or when the phone is lying flat, yet its 6.7-inch screen still requires more hand movement and makes one-handed reach harder.
#1 Best Overall

The S25 is the better fit for small hands, shallow pockets and frequent one-handed use. A case will reduce the Edge’s thinness advantage, and its large camera housing can make a slim case especially important. Both phones carry an IP68 rating under Samsung’s test conditions; that is not a promise of scratch-proof glass, drop-proof construction or indefinite protection from every liquid.
Display: the Edge gives you more canvas and more pixels
The Edge’s 6.7-inch 3120×1440 panel offers more room for video, games, reading and split-screen work, while its higher pixel density makes small text and fine interface details crisper at close distances. The S25’s 6.2-inch 2340×1080 display is still a 120Hz Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel and is easier to manage physically. Many users will notice the Edge’s extra size more than its QHD+ sharpness; the S25’s lower resolution also reduces display workload.
Performance and thermals
With the same Snapdragon 8 Elite platform, both phones should feel similarly quick in app launches, multitasking, gaming bursts and Galaxy AI tasks. Neither gains a processor advantage from being newer or from having a 200MP camera.

Sustained performance is a separate question. Independent testing reported greater performance degradation on the thinner Edge during prolonged stress, while short workloads remained flagship-level. Results vary with game, ambient temperature, case, firmware, performance mode and test duration, so treat that finding as a test result rather than a guarantee that every Edge will throttle.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Battery life and charging
The S25 has the stronger battery-life case. Its 4,000mAh cell is slightly larger than the Edge’s 3,900mAh unit, and it drives a smaller FHD+ display. Independent testing found the Edge materially behind the regular S25 in some video and Zoom-style workloads, although other reviews considered its endurance usable with lighter patterns. Brightness, 5G reception, navigation, gaming, camera recording and QHD+ use can expose the Edge’s smaller reserve.
Neither phone is a charging leader: both support 25W wired and 15W wireless charging. If endurance and rapid top-ups matter more than thinness, compare the Galaxy S25+ before choosing the Edge; the Plus model has a 4,900mAh battery and 45W wired charging.

Camera comparison: versatility versus resolution
Main-camera detail and cropping
The Edge’s 200MP main sensor can capture high detail and provides more cropping latitude in good light. Independent reviews praised its main-camera detail and low-light results. Megapixels alone do not establish overall image quality, however; processing, optics, exposure and motion handling matter too.
Zoom and portraits
The S25’s 10MP 3x optical telephoto is the decisive advantage for distant subjects, concerts, travel and portraits. The Edge can simulate intermediate zoom levels by cropping its 200MP sensor, but that is not equivalent to a dedicated telephoto lens, especially as light falls or the subject moves.
Ultrawide, video and selfies
Both list 12MP ultrawide and 12MP front cameras. Their headline roles are therefore similar, while real differences in color, stabilization, autofocus, skin tones, moving subjects and heat depend on the camera software and shooting conditions. Do not treat the Edge’s higher main-camera resolution as proof that it wins every photo or video scenario.

Software and Galaxy AI
Both launched with Android 15 and One UI 7 and share Samsung’s core Galaxy AI experience. For a purchase made in 2026, check the software version, carrier firmware and region on the specific device: launch software is not necessarily the current build. AI features can require a Samsung account, internet access, compatible apps or languages, and availability and terms can vary by market.

U.S. launch list prices explain the premium. Samsung’s MSRP documentation lists the S25 at $799.99 for 128GB and $859.99 for 256GB; the Edge launched at $1,099.99 for 256GB and $1,219.99 for 512GB. At comparable 256GB capacity, the Edge was $240 more expensive.
| Configuration | Launch U.S. MSRP | What the premium buys |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy S25 128GB | $799.99 | Compact flagship, 3x telephoto and lower entry price. |
| Galaxy S25 256GB | $859.99 | More storage at a lower price than the Edge. |
| Galaxy S25 Edge 256GB | $1,099.99 | 5.8-mm body, 6.7-inch QHD+ screen, titanium and 200MP main camera. |
| Galaxy S25 Edge 512GB | $1,219.99 | Edge design and twice the S25’s maximum launch storage. |
These are reference prices, not a promise of the checkout total in September 2026. Samsung, retailers and carriers may use instant discounts, financing, trade-in credits or plan commitments. For example, a reported promotion advertised up to $700 off the Edge with an eligible trade-in; the real value depends on device condition, model, plan and expiration. Check the S25 product page and Edge product page for unlocked pricing, and separate any carrier bill credits from the phone’s outright price.

- Battery margin matters more than an ultra-thin body.
- You regularly use 3x zoom, portraits or distant-subject photography.
- You want flagship performance at the lowest launch price.
- You prefer a smaller phone for pockets, bags and long sessions in the hand.
Who should buy the Galaxy S25 Edge?
- The thinnest possible mainstream smartphone is a top priority.
- You want a 6.7-inch screen without moving to the thicker S25+ or larger Ultra.
- QHD+ sharpness, titanium and design novelty justify a premium to you.
- You value a 200MP main camera and 256GB minimum storage more than optical zoom.
- You accept less battery headroom and may carry a charger for heavy days.
When to choose an alternative
Galaxy S25+
The S25+ is the practical large-screen counterpoint: 6.7-inch QHD+, 4,900mAh, 45W charging and a telephoto camera. It is thicker and heavier, so it does not replace the Edge for buyers focused on extreme thinness, but it deserves a price check whenever the Edge is near full MSRP.
Galaxy S25 Ultra
Choose the Ultra instead when advanced zoom, broader camera hardware or S Pen functionality outweigh compactness and thinness.
Discounted previous-generation models
If price is the overriding concern, a discounted Galaxy model from the prior generation can offer more value than paying the Edge premium. Compare update support, battery condition and remaining warranty before buying.
Bottom line
The Galaxy S25 is the smarter all-round purchase: compact, less expensive, easier to hold, more dependable for battery life and more flexible for optical zoom. The Galaxy S25 Edge is worth the premium only when its 5.8-mm design and larger QHD+ display are central to what you want from a phone. Before paying full price, compare the Edge’s effective offer with the Galaxy S25+ and recalculate after trade-in credits; those two checks can change the value equation.
