Cat and Bullitt announced the CAT S75 at MWC Barcelona on February 24, 2023. It combined a rugged 5G Android handset with MediaTek non-terrestrial-network hardware and Bullitt Satellite Messenger, allowing two-way texts, location sharing and SOS assistance when cellular and Wi‑Fi were unavailable.
The crucial distinction is that this was a satellite-messaging smartphone, not a conventional satellite phone. It was not announced as supporting ordinary satellite voice calls or full satellite internet. In 2026, it is also a legacy product: Bullitt’s current consumer compatibility list does not name the CAT S75, so buyers of used or old-stock units must verify service activation for their country and device before relying on the feature.
What was announced in 2023?
Bullitt positioned the CAT S75 as a rugged 5G phone with direct-to-satellite communication. Its satellite functions used MediaTek NTN technology, Bullitt Satellite Messenger and a geostationary satellite network roughly 37,500 km above Earth. The announcement covered selected EMEA operators and retailers, with pricing from €599 or £549 and a three-month Essentials trial.
Bullitt also described SOS Assist, connected to emergency-response centers operated by FocusPoint International. That is an assistance arrangement, not a replacement for a government emergency number or a guarantee that rescuers will be dispatched.

Bullitt and MediaTek presented the S75 as an early commercially available two-way satellite-messaging phone. That “first” positioning is a launch-era company claim, not a timeless category definition.
What “satellite connectivity” means on the CAT S75
| Function | CAT S75 satellite service |
|---|---|
| Two-way text messaging | Yes, with an active Bullitt subscription |
| Location sharing | Yes |
| SOS assistance | Yes, through Bullitt’s service |
| Ordinary satellite voice calls | Not announced |
| Full satellite web browsing or streaming | Not announced |
| Operation indoors or without a sky view | No guarantee |
| Operation without a subscription | No |
In practical terms, the phone normally used cellular or Wi‑Fi and switched to satellite when those networks were unavailable. Messages were low-bandwidth and could be exchanged with other Bullitt users. Bullitt said people without the app could receive a message as SMS; replying through the satellite system generally required the free Android or iOS app, and the exact delivery path could depend on country, carrier and account configuration.
How a satellite connection was set up
The phone needed an active plan, an appropriate coverage area and an unobstructed view toward the sky. Buildings, dense forest, cliffs, canyons, poor orientation, weather, network faults, a damaged handset or a flat battery could delay or prevent delivery. Bullitt’s coverage terms state that service is not universal and can be limited by geography, local law or sanctions.
- Activate the satellite service and keep the subscription active.
- Move outdoors or to a location without usable cellular or Wi‑Fi service.
- Open Settings → Network & Internet → Satellite Mode.
- Choose Satellite When Needed, Satellite Only or Off. “Satellite When Needed” was the documented default.
- Open the Bullitt Satellite Messaging app and follow its connection and plan-activation prompts.
- Send a text, location message or SOS request where the service supports it.
Those menu labels come from the CAT S75 documentation and can vary with firmware or translation. A satellite indicator is not proof that an emergency response team has been dispatched, and satellite messaging should never be treated as a guaranteed rescue channel.
The launch app requirements were iOS 14 or later and Android 10 or later. Those were 2023 requirements, not a promise that current operating-system versions or a newly created account will still work with every CAT S75.

| Rugged ratings | IP68, IP69K and MIL-STD-810H testing |
These are launch specifications, not a description of a currently manufactured or supported 2026 model. Bullitt promised two Android OS updates and five years of security maintenance, described as three years of quarterly releases followed by two years of emergency releases. That promise is historical and does not establish that updates are still being delivered.
What the rugged ratings did—and did not—promise
Bullitt said the S75 underwent IP68 dust and water testing, IP69K high-pressure and high-temperature water-jet testing, and selected MIL-STD-810H-related tests involving temperature extremes, humidity, salt fog, vibration and tumbling. It also cited repeated drops from up to 1.8 metres, testing to 5 metres in water and antimicrobial silver-ion treatment on external surfaces.
Those statements are manufacturer test and marketing claims, not independent proof that every phone will survive every accident. IP and military-standard test results do not make a handset indestructible; the outcome depends on the impact, wear, seals, battery and warranty terms.

Launch pricing and satellite plans
The announced starting prices were €599 in selected EMEA markets and £549 in the United Kingdom. The package included three months of the Essentials Satellite Messenger plan. Bullitt said that launch plan allowed up to 30 direct-to-satellite messages per month, and the announcement included a 12-month SOS Assist trial. No universal US retail price was established by that announcement.
Launch satellite plans started from €4.99 per month. Bullitt’s consumer page showed a different structure in August 2026: $9.99 per month on a 12-month contract or $119.99 per year, with unlimited satellite messaging, premium SOS over cellular and Wi‑Fi, and an optional live-tracking add-on for $4.99 per month. Those current prices and allowances should not be assumed to apply to a CAT S75, because the same page lists Motorola Defy Satellite Link, HMD Off Grid and Bullitt Satellite hardware but not the CAT S75.
CAT S75 availability in 2026
The S75 is now best treated as old stock or a used 2023 phone. Bullitt’s current compatibility page omits it, and a 2026 Phone Scoop report said Bullitt had apparently ceased operations, although Bullitt service pages remain online. That combination makes categorical claims about universal service unsafe.

Motorola Defy Satellite Link
This Bluetooth accessory added Bullitt satellite messaging to compatible iOS and Android phones, avoiding the need to replace the handset. Its launch price was $99, or from $149 with a one-year Essentials bundle. It is also a Bullitt-era product, so current support and service compatibility require the same verification.
Garmin inReach
Garmin’s dedicated communicators focus on standalone satellite messaging, tracking and SOS. They are a better fit when a mature backcountry communicator matters more than having satellite features integrated into an Android phone. See Garmin’s satellite communicator range for current models and plans.
ZOLEO
ZOLEO uses separate satellite hardware paired with a phone app. The phone can be replaced without replacing the communicator, which is useful when long-term handset support is a priority. Current plans are listed at ZOLEO’s official site.

Built-in phone satellite features
Apple’s satellite features are integrated into supported iPhones and vary by model, operating system, country and carrier rollout. They are not a direct CAT S75 equivalent, but can be the simplest option for owners of compatible iPhones. Details are maintained on Apple’s satellite-feature support page.
Bottom line for buyers
The CAT S75 was significant because it put two-way satellite messaging, location sharing and SOS assistance into a rugged 5G smartphone. It did not turn into a traditional satellite voice phone or a pocket satellite broadband terminal. In 2026, the original hardware specifications matter less than whether Bullitt still recognizes the specific unit, can activate service in the buyer’s country and provides dependable software and warranty support. Verify those points before purchase; for critical backcountry use, a currently supported dedicated communicator may be the safer choice.
