Doogee described the design as Batman-inspired, but its launch material does not establish that the phone was officially licensed by DC or Warner Bros. It is now an older 4G device, so its unusual styling and battery are more relevant than its dated performance for anyone considering one today.
What made the Doogee S89 Pro Batman-inspired?
The superhero reference was concentrated in the design rather than a fully branded collector’s edition. Doogee shaped the rear camera assembly to suggest a comic-character face and called two illuminated areas the “Doogee Eyes.” Its launch material also described a bat-shaped display notch. Contemporary coverage reported Batman-themed software or display elements. Doogee’s launch article and contemporary coverage support calling it Batman-inspired, but do not confirm an official licensing partnership.
The rear RGB lights could be customized with colors and patterns, with options for effects such as calls, notifications, and music. That makes the phone’s identity more accurately a bat-themed rugged design with programmable lighting than an officially licensed Batman handset.

Battery life and charging
The 12,000mAh battery is the phone’s clearest practical advantage. Doogee claimed up to four days of active use and roughly 39 days on standby, but those are manufacturer estimates rather than guaranteed everyday results. Doogee also said the 65W charger could fill the battery in about three hours. TechRadar estimated a full charge would take more than two hours and found the supplied charger worked better than some higher-wattage third-party chargers.
The S89 Pro also supports 15W wireless charging. It can reduce how often the rubber-covered USB-C port needs to be opened, though it is a slower charging route for a battery of this size. The capacity has a clear trade-off: a large battery adds substantial bulk and makes the phone less comfortable to carry than a typical handset.
Rugged construction: useful protection, not indestructibility
Doogee specified IP68 and IP69K protection and MIL-STD-810H compliance, and described drop protection from approximately 1.5 meters. These ratings and claims refer to defined tests; they do not make the phone immune to every impact or exposure. Salt water, chemicals, damaged seals, aging gaskets, or a cover left improperly closed can still put a device at risk.

The USB-C port sits behind a rubber flap, as does the headphone jack. That helps protect openings but adds a small task whenever wired charging or headphone use is needed. Wireless charging avoids regular use of the charging flap. The angular, reinforced body suits harsh-work environments better than ordinary pocket carry, but its thickness and weight can be inconvenient in a vehicle, on a long hike, or in everyday clothing. TechRadar found the construction robust while criticizing the phone’s physical scale.
Camera system and what “night vision” means
The rear array combines a 64MP Sony main camera, a 20MP Sony IMX350 night-vision camera, and an 8MP auxiliary unit. Sources variously describe that 8MP camera as wide-angle, macro, or serving both roles, so a simple camera count can be misleading. A 16MP camera handles selfies.
The infrared-style night-vision camera can be useful for outdoor observation, inspection, or camping in low light. It is not thermal imaging: the available specifications describe a night-vision camera, not a sensor that measures heat. TechRadar found that the hardware had useful capabilities but that the camera app did not fully exploit all the sensors.

Performance and software age matter in 2026
The Helio P90 was an older midrange processor even in the S89 Pro’s launch era. The phone is 4G-only, and TechRadar’s review reported mediocre benchmark performance and weak suitability for gaming. Its 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage are useful for ordinary files and apps, but they cannot make the chipset current.
TechRadar also reported Widevine L3 in its review testing, which limited major streaming services to playback of up to 480p in that configuration. That finding should be understood as review testing, not a guarantee for every firmware or region. Android 12 was the launch operating system; current upgrade or security-patch support is not established by the available product information, so buyers should not assume a particular update path.

The announcement, promotional sales, shipping, and database dates describe different events. The historical prices reflect distinct promotions, markets, and sales stages, not a current price. The available information does not establish a reliable 2026 retail price or confirmed mainstream availability.
Who should consider the S89 Pro?
It may suit
- Outdoor workers or travelers who value unusually large battery capacity and rugged construction.
- People with a specific use for a dedicated night-vision camera.
- Buyers who want a headphone jack, wireless charging, expandable storage, or conspicuous programmable lighting.
- Batman fans who like the look, while understanding the licensing distinction.
It is a poor fit for
- People who need 5G, strong gaming performance, or a light, pocket-friendly phone.
- Frequent Netflix and similar streaming viewers who expect HD playback; TechRadar’s tested unit was limited by Widevine L3.
- Buyers who require a clearly documented current software-support commitment.
- Anyone expecting a used phone’s original 12,000mAh capacity to describe its present battery health.
Checks before buying a used or leftover unit
Because this is a 2022 model, condition and compatibility matter as much as its original specification sheet. Before paying, check:
- Whether the unit is new, refurbished, or used, and the return terms and warranty that actually apply.
- Battery condition, charging behavior, and whether the original 65W charger is included and working.
- That the seller identifies the precise model and region, and verify supported 4G bands and carrier certification with your network provider—especially in the United States.
- Whether NFC payments work with your bank and region; having NFC hardware alone does not guarantee contactless-payment support.
- That port covers, buttons, and seals are intact. A water-resistance rating is not a reason to expose an older device with uncertain seal condition to water.
- For comparisons, the S89 is a lower-tier sibling with 128GB storage, a 48MP main camera, and 33W wired charging, according to launch coverage. The S88 Plus is an older predecessor, so its battery and software age deserve even greater scrutiny. A competing large-battery option cited by TechRadar is the Blackview BV7100, with a 13,000mAh battery; verify its current specifications and availability before comparing.
In 2026, compare an S89 Pro with newer 5G rugged phones on current network support, update policies, condition, and price rather than treating a 2022 model as a current performance benchmark.
