Gemini’s mobile app can generate short videos from text and images, and it can edit video inputs in supported locations. But Veo 3 is the launch-era name, not the model name in Google’s current Gemini Apps help documentation: that documentation, reviewed in August 2026, describes the feature as powered by Gemini Omni. Access requires an eligible Google AI plan or Workspace license, and availability depends on account, age, location and rollout.
What Gemini’s mobile video generator can do
Google introduced video generation in the Gemini app using Veo 3 in 2025. Veo 3 drew attention for generating video with synchronized audio, including dialogue, sound effects and ambient sound. Google later added photo-to-video generation. The mobile experience has since evolved: current help documentation calls the model Gemini Omni and describes video generation and editing in Gemini. Google’s Veo 3 mobile announcement and its photo-to-video announcement describe the earlier rollout.
- Text-to-video: describe a scene and ask Gemini to generate a clip.
- Image-to-video: provide a still image and prompt Gemini to animate it. The original Veo 3 mobile announcement described eight-second clips with sound.
- Video-assisted editing: where supported, provide a video along with text and images, then ask Gemini to modify or blend the material. Uploading video for editing is restricted in some locations.
- Prompt-based revisions: ask for changes such as replacing an object, changing a character or adjusting the camera angle.
This is a short-form, conversational workflow—not a promise of every feature available in Google Flow, the Gemini API or Vertex AI. Model capabilities and controls differ between products.
Veo 3 and Gemini Omni: what changed?

The name in the 2025 headline is accurate for that launch, but it should not be read as confirmation that Veo 3 remains the model label for the current mobile feature. Google’s current Gemini video help page is the better guide to present-day eligibility and workflow.

Who can use video generation?
Installing Gemini does not by itself guarantee access. Google’s current help documentation says personal-account users need a Google AI plan; work or school accounts need a qualifying Workspace license. Users under 18 cannot use the feature. Country, account type, platform, staged rollout and usage limits can also affect availability.
- Check that you are signed into the Google account with the relevant plan or Workspace access.
- If the video option is missing, confirm that the feature is available in your country and account, and update the Gemini app.
- Try Gemini on the web to see whether the issue is specific to the mobile interface.
Google’s 2025 announcement described a limited rollout and a 10-generation trial allocation for certain Pro users at that time. That is historical rollout information, not a current quota. Google’s reviewed current help page does not establish a universal price or generation allowance; check the live Google AI plan page and your account’s feature limits before subscribing.
How to generate a video on Android
- Open the Gemini app or Gemini on the web and sign in to an eligible account.
- At the bottom of the screen, tap Add files, then Videos.
- Choose a template if one is offered, or continue without one.
- Enter a prompt describing the video. To use source material, add an image or video as appropriate, then submit the request.
Google’s Android instructions allow one video and up to five images for this workflow. Video uploads may not be available in every location. See Google’s Android-specific instructions for the current interface.

How to generate a video on iPhone or iPad
- Open the Gemini app or Gemini on the web and sign in to an eligible account.
- In the app, tap Menu, then Videos.
- Select a template if you want to use one.
- Write the prompt; add an image or video if desired, then submit.
Google’s iOS instructions also allow one video and up to five images. Labels and placement can differ from Android. Consult the iPhone and iPad instructions if the controls do not match.
How to animate a photo or edit a video
Animate a still image
Open the video workflow, add a photo you have permission to use, and describe the motion you want. For example: “Animate the clouds drifting slowly over this mountain lake; make a gentle push-in toward the water, with soft wind and distant birds.” The original Google photo-to-video announcement described eight-second clips with sound; current mobile output length and technical specifications are not stated as a universal guarantee in the current help page.
Use a video as source material
Where video uploads are supported, add one video and up to five images, then explain what to change or how the elements should be combined. Google says video uploads for editing are unavailable in the EEA, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and some U.S. states. If your upload is blocked, the restriction may be regional rather than a problem with your prompt.

Revise a result in chat
After generation, give one focused instruction at a time—for example, ask Gemini to replace an object or alter the camera angle. Google says a generation can take several minutes; the same chat may not be available for other interaction while the video is processing. If a chat remains busy, start a new one rather than resubmitting repeatedly.
Write prompts for a controllable result
Specific, simple directions give the model fewer ambiguities to resolve. A useful prompt can include:

- Setting and look: location, visual style, lighting and mood.
- Camera direction: for example, a slow pan, close-up or stationary wide shot.
- Sound: request dialogue, ambient noise, music or a particular sound effect, and say when it should occur.
For instance: “A red paper boat floats down a quiet stream at dusk. Follow it with a slow, low camera track; warm cinematic lighting; gentle water sounds and distant birds.” Avoid packing several scene changes, characters and competing camera moves into one short prompt. If the result is close but not right, request a single targeted edit. Do not rely on generated lettering for captions, signs, logos or product labels; add accurate text in a video editor.

Limits, regional differences and common problems
- No Videos control: check your account, plan or Workspace entitlement, age eligibility, country, app update and rollout status. Compare with the web interface.
- Upload rejected: the file, location or content may not be supported, or you may not have rights to use the source material. Video editing uploads have the regional restrictions described above.
- Generation refused: Google may block or remove content when its systems identify possible violations of its Terms of Service or Prohibited Use Policy.
- Unexpected audio or dialogue: generated sound may not follow timing, wording or other directions exactly. Review the clip before publishing.
- Visual inconsistencies: faces, hands, objects, character identity or backgrounds may shift during motion or between revisions. Text can also render incorrectly.
- Slow processing or exhausted access: generation may take several minutes, and plan-based access does not mean unlimited use. Check the limit displayed for your account.
For precise captions, logos, sound mixing or continuity, download the result and finish it in a conventional video editor. If a generation appears stuck, a new chat can be a practical alternative while the original request processes.

Google says AI-generated videos include a visible AI watermark, subject to product and regional exceptions, and that Google-generated content carries an invisible SynthID watermark. Google’s 2025 announcement described an exception at that time for videos generated by Ultra members in Flow; it is not a promise of watermark-free Gemini mobile exports. Watermark treatment can vary by product, plan, location and current policy.
SynthID is a provenance signal, not a universal AI detector. Gemini can check supported images, video and audio for SynthID and Content Credentials, but a check that finds no SynthID does not prove that a video is human-made or was not generated with another system. Only upload images or videos you have permission to use. Generated likenesses, voices, trademarks and copyrighted characters are not automatically cleared for publication. Check applicable law, client terms, advertising rules and platform disclosure requirements before using a clip commercially.
Is a Google AI plan the right fit?
- Existing subscriber or occasional creator: try Gemini’s mobile workflow first and judge whether its available generation limit is enough for your needs.
- Social publisher or marketer: it can be convenient for drafts and short concepts, but verify rights, watermark acceptability, audio and any quota before building a publishing process around it.
- Professional video producer: if you need structured scene construction, asset management and filmmaking-oriented iteration, compare the workflow with Google Flow. Neither is a substitute for a finishing editor when delivery requires precise timelines, captions or sound mixing.
- Developer or business team: the Gemini API, Google AI Studio or Vertex AI may fit programmatic workflows better; access, features and usage costs are product- and model-specific.
Runway, Kling, Adobe Firefly and Canva are other products a creator might compare, but their current prices, limits and output quality should be checked directly rather than assumed to match Gemini.
