The number appears with your account details. On Android, open Settings from the ⋮ menu in the upper-right; on iPhone, tap Settings in the bottom-right.
This is the number registered to that WhatsApp account, not necessarily the number on the SIM or eSIM currently in your phone. WhatsApp registration verifies control of a phone number by SMS or voice call; it does not simply read the device’s SIM. Meta’s WhatsApp Business Platform registration documentation describes that verification process.
Find your WhatsApp number on iPhone
- Open WhatsApp.
- Tap Settings in the bottom-right corner.
- Tap your name, photo, or profile header at the top.
- Read the phone number shown with your profile details.
The number may appear in international format, with a plus sign and country code—for example, a U.S. number may begin with +1. Menu wording and placement can vary with app version, language, and account type.
Find your WhatsApp number on Android
- Open WhatsApp.
- Tap ⋮ in the upper-right corner.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap your name, photo, or profile header at the top.
- Read the number listed under your account details.
Android manufacturers and app releases can arrange controls differently, so look for the profile header at the top of Settings if the exact labels have changed.

Find the number in WhatsApp Business

In the WhatsApp Business app, use the same route: open Settings, then tap the business profile or account header at the top. The registered number is shown with the profile details. If you use more than one WhatsApp account, check each account separately.
WhatsApp Business Platform or Cloud API
Business administrators may encounter several identifiers in Meta’s tools. The customer-facing telephone number is the display_phone_number. The API’s id is a phone-number ID, not the telephone number. A WhatsApp Business Account ID (WABA ID) identifies the business-account container. Meta’s Cloud API documentation shows these fields when retrieving numbers connected to a WABA. Confusing the ID with the displayed number can lead to errors in API setup and support requests.
How to check that the number is yours
- Check the full international number. Confirm the country code as well as the remaining digits. For example, a U.S. number normally uses +1; domestic prefixes can be represented differently in international format.
- Compare it with a number you can verify. WhatsApp registration uses an SMS or voice call to verify control of the number. Receiving a code confirms access to that number; never share the six-digit code with anyone.
- Do not rely on the SIM alone. A dual-SIM or eSIM phone can contain multiple numbers, and the WhatsApp account may still be registered to a different number. WhatsApp can also continue working after its original SIM is removed or deactivated.
- Use carrier records as clues, not proof of the WhatsApp account. A carrier account, bill, SIM packaging, or contact entry may help identify a phone number, but the profile page is the direct check for the account currently open in WhatsApp.
If you cannot open WhatsApp
If you are logged out, or WhatsApp is not available on the device, phone settings and carrier records can help you identify the SIM or mobile line—but they cannot establish which number is registered to a WhatsApp account. On iPhone, check Settings → Phone → My Number. On Android, check Settings → About phone or the SIM status section; labels vary by device. You can also check your carrier account or ask someone to look at the number saved in their contacts, but neither is definitive for WhatsApp registration.

To use the account again, you may need to register the number and receive its verification code by SMS or voice call. WhatsApp Web and desktop are linked clients, not the best place to identify or change the primary account number. A linked device does not replace access to the number used for primary registration.

If you still have the WhatsApp account open and want to move it to a new number, use WhatsApp’s built-in Change number feature before you lose access to the old number. The new number generally needs to receive a verification SMS or call. See WhatsApp’s Help Center instructions for changing your phone number.
Changing the number is different from transferring the account to a new phone. If you are changing both, Google’s Android transfer guidance says to change the number on the old device before transferring, and to sign in on the new phone with the number used on the previous device. Do not simply uninstall WhatsApp and create a new account if you want to preserve the existing account structure.

If WhatsApp says your number was registered on another device
Treat an unexpected registration message as an account-security issue. Follow WhatsApp’s official recovery flow rather than using a third-party recovery service or paying someone who claims they can restore the account.
- Re-register your number in WhatsApp using the SMS or voice verification code sent to it. Never give that code to another person.
- Open Linked devices in WhatsApp and log out of any device you do not recognize.
- Turn on two-step verification and add a recovery email if WhatsApp offers the option. See the two-step verification Help Center page.
- If WhatsApp requests a two-step PIN you do not know, do not keep guessing. Follow the app’s recovery instructions. A previous holder of the number or someone else may have enabled the PIN.

Can you find someone else’s WhatsApp number?
Your own account settings show the number registered to your account; they do not reveal a private number belonging to another person. You may see a contact’s number in chat or contact details when that person has shared it and WhatsApp exposes it in that context, but visibility is not universal.

Meta announced on June 29, 2026 that optional WhatsApp usernames were planned to roll out later in 2026, allowing people to connect without immediately sharing a phone number. The announcement does not establish that usernames are available to everyone now; availability may depend on rollout, region, and app version. Read Meta’s announcement.
What WhatsApp does—and does not—connect to
WhatsApp’s phone-number registration remains distinct from your Apple ID or Google account. Meta announced an optional WhatsApp connection to Accounts Center in January 2025, but that does not make a WhatsApp account identical to a Facebook or Instagram account or replace phone-number registration. Meta’s Accounts Center announcement describes the optional connection.
