The regular Oppo Find X8 and Find X8 Pro use MediaTek’s Dimensity 9400. Oppo did not release those models with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor. The Snapdragon-powered phone is the separate Find X8 Ultra, and Qualcomm launched the chip formerly called “Snapdragon 8 Gen 4” as Snapdragon 8 Elite.

Oppo announced the global Find X8 Series launch for November 21, 2024. The global announcement covered the Find X8 and Find X8 Pro with Dimensity 9400; the Ultra is a distinct, primarily China-market model.

Which processor is in each Oppo Find X8?

Model Processor Market and launch context
Find X8 MediaTek Dimensity 9400 Globally announced model; ColorOS 15
Find X8 Pro MediaTek Dimensity 9400 Globally announced Pro model; ColorOS 15
Find X8 Ultra Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Separate premium model; official specifications listed by Oppo China

Oppo’s Find X8 product page and its global chipset announcement identify the X8 and X8 Pro as Dimensity 9400 phones. There is no documented user-selectable Snapdragon and Dimensity version of the standard Find X8.

The Find X8 Ultra specifications list Snapdragon 8 Elite, with a maximum CPU frequency of 4.32GHz, a battery equivalent to 6,100mAh, 100W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. Those figures belong to the Ultra and should not be applied to the X8 or X8 Pro.

“Snapdragon 8 Gen 4” is now Snapdragon 8 Elite

“Snapdragon 8 Gen 4” was the pre-release name used in rumors and early listings. Qualcomm’s final commercial name is Snapdragon 8 Elite. Its platform uses Qualcomm’s Oryon CPU, a 3nm process and an Adreno GPU. Qualcomm lists platform variants reaching up to 4.32GHz or 4.47GHz, depending on the version and manufacturer implementation. The two names should not be treated as separate generations.

Retail listings that say “Find X8 Snapdragon 8 Gen 4” may be mislabeled, may actually describe the Ultra, or may repeat an old rumor. Check the model name and full specification rather than relying on the listing headline.

What the Dimensity 9400 provides

Oppo and MediaTek describe the Dimensity 9400 as a second-generation “All Big Core” platform built on TSMC’s second-generation 3nm process. Its stated CPU layout is:

  • One Arm Cortex-X925 core running up to 3.62GHz
  • Three Cortex-X4 cores
  • Four Cortex-A720 cores
  • Arm Immortalis-G925 graphics
  • An eighth-generation NPU for on-device AI

These are vendor specifications, not a guarantee of identical performance in every phone. The MediaTek overview and Oppo’s announcement describe improvements against previous-generation MediaTek hardware; they do not constitute a controlled, independent comparison with Snapdragon 8 Elite.

Dimensity 9400 vs Snapdragon 8 Elite by workload

CPU performance

The Snapdragon 8 Elite uses Qualcomm’s Oryon architecture, while the Dimensity 9400 uses MediaTek’s all-large-core Arm design. Their peak clock figures—up to 4.32GHz or 4.47GHz for listed Snapdragon variants versus 3.62GHz for the Dimensity’s Cortex-X925—are not directly comparable. Architecture, cooling, firmware, power limits and the specific phone determine sustained results.

GPU and native Android games

The Dimensity 9400’s Immortalis-G925 supports hardware ray tracing. Snapdragon 8 Elite uses an Adreno GPU and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Elite Gaming features, including hardware-accelerated ray tracing and Vulkan 1.3 support, according to Qualcomm’s product brief.

Both are flagship-class platforms for native Android games. A Snapdragon phone can be the safer choice for emulators, PC-style games and software built around Qualcomm’s drivers or optimization ecosystem. That is a compatibility consideration, not proof that Dimensity gaming is poor or that Snapdragon wins every game.

AI processing

Both chips include dedicated AI hardware. Oppo links the Find X8 series’ on-device AI features to the Dimensity 9400 and ColorOS 15, while Qualcomm’s platform includes a Hexagon NPU and AI ISP. The useful question is how the finished phone implements those capabilities: supported languages, app integration, update policy and thermal behavior matter as much as the silicon label.

  • 163.2 x 77.0 x 8.7 mm or 9.1 mm

Camera and video

The SoC contributes to image processing, AI effects, video encoding and camera responsiveness, but it does not determine camera quality alone. Find X8 results also depend on Oppo’s sensors and lenses, Hasselblad-related imaging features, ColorOS processing, stabilization and firmware. Oppo’s launch announcement connects those camera and AI functions with the Dimensity-based phone.

Connectivity and platform features

Qualcomm lists Wi-Fi 7, UFS 4.0, LPDDR5X memory support, hardware ray tracing and 4K video capture up to 120 frames per second for Snapdragon 8 Elite. Actual support still depends on the handset’s modem, antennas, storage, memory configuration and software. A processor specification is not a promise that every Find X8-series model exposes every listed feature.

Efficiency and sustained performance

The Dimensity 9400’s 3nm design and Oppo’s device-level tuning are intended to improve efficiency. Oppo also pairs the X8 series with silicon-carbon batteries. Those claims are not direct Snapdragon-versus-Dimensity battery tests. Display brightness and refresh rate, modem conditions, battery temperature, cooling, firmware and workload can change the result substantially.

Which Find X8 is better for gaming?

  • For ordinary Android games: choose between the complete phones—cooling, display, controls and software updates matter more than the processor name alone.
  • For ray-traced titles: both platforms advertise hardware ray-tracing support, but game support and sustained temperatures determine the experience.
  • For emulation and PC-style games: Snapdragon 8 Elite may offer broader compatibility because of Qualcomm’s driver and optimization ecosystem.
  • For long sessions: compare independent same-device tests, since peak benchmark scores do not show how quickly a phone throttles.

Do not infer a universal winner from clock speed or a single benchmark. Results vary with cooling hardware, performance mode, RAM, storage, display resolution, battery temperature and benchmark version.

Which should you buy?

Choose the Find X8

The standard Find X8 is the straightforward choice if you want the globally announced compact model with Dimensity 9400, ColorOS 15, Oppo’s camera system and a listed 5,630mAh silicon-carbon battery. Oppo lists IP68/IP69 water and dust resistance for the product line on its official product page.

Choose the Find X8 Pro

Choose the Pro for its larger, more camera-focused hardware, display and battery package. Oppo’s launch material lists a 5,910mAh battery. The Pro still uses Dimensity 9400; it is not the Snapdragon option.

Consider the Find X8 Ultra

The Ultra is the model to investigate if Snapdragon 8 Elite is the specific requirement. It is not a processor SKU of the regular X8. Before importing one, verify Chinese-market software behavior, supported bands, Google services, warranty, repairs, seller reliability and return rights.

  • 163.2 x 77.0 x 8.7 mm or 9.1 mm

Before buying any regional or imported version, check:

  • Exact model number and whether it is X8, X8 Pro or X8 Ultra
  • 5G and LTE bands for your carrier
  • Global or Chinese ROM, language options and Google Mobile Services
  • Android Auto, banking-app and notification compatibility
  • eSIM support, OTA update eligibility and bootloader restrictions
  • Warranty, repair access, charger certification and return policy

A “global version” label by itself does not verify these details. Ask the seller for the model number and written warranty terms.

Bottom line for the processor question

For the regular Oppo Find X8 and Find X8 Pro, the confirmed processor is MediaTek Dimensity 9400. “Snapdragon 8 Gen 4” is the old name for Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite, and the Find X8-family model using it is the separate Find X8 Ultra. Select among them based on the complete phone, gaming and emulation needs, camera hardware, battery, software region and after-sales support—not on a retailer’s outdated chipset label.
