TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 Golf Edition: What It Did and Whether It’s Still Worth Buying

Update for August 18, 2026: TAG Heuer’s Connected Calibre E4 Golf Edition is discontinued in the United States. It remains an interesting luxury golf smartwatch on the used or clearance market, but new buyers should also compare TAG Heuer’s current $2,550 Connected Calibre E5 Golf Edition.

The E4 was a Wear OS smartwatch in 45 mm and 42 mm sizes, combining TAG Heuer’s Golf software with GPS distances, course maps, hazard information, club recommendations, shot tracking and ordinary smartwatch and health functions. “Fairway to heaven” was launch-era promotional language, not a technical claim.

What the Connected Calibre E4 Golf Edition was

The Connected Calibre E4 Golf Edition was TAG Heuer’s luxury answer to the golf GPS watch: a round, premium smartwatch designed to show golf information on the wrist while still handling notifications, health tracking and general Wear OS tasks. “Calibre” does not describe a mechanical watch movement here. The E4 used Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear hardware and Wear OS by Google.

TAG Heuer’s earlier Golf Edition materials focus on the 45 mm model. The smaller 42 mm Golf Edition is identified in the company’s brochure as a 2023 model. Both sizes used the same basic golf concept, but they were not identical in dimensions, battery capacity or included accessories.

TAG Heuer’s product pages described support for more than 40,000 courses worldwide. The current TAG Heuer Golf App Store listing uses “more than 39,000” for certain app functions, so course totals should be understood as database claims that can vary by product material and region.

Both versions used the Snapdragon Wear 4100+, Wear OS by Google, heart-rate sensor, compass, microphone, barometer, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC and GNSS. The 45 mm package also listed three golf balls, an extra ball marker, charging dock, USB-C cable, power adapter, markers, manuals and an international warranty on TAG Heuer’s product page.

Golf functions on the course

Distances, hazards and maps

TAG Heuer Golf presented GPS distances to the green and distances to hazards, with high-resolution 2D course maps. The maps were intended to make a hole’s shape and obstacles readable without taking a phone from a pocket. Course coverage and individual map availability still depend on the app’s database and location.

Scoring and shot measurement

The watch could be used for round scorekeeping and for measuring shot distance. Later E4 Golf software materials also described automatic shot detection. Automatic recognition is a convenience rather than a guarantee: practice swings, chips, putts and unusual lies can be missed or classified incorrectly, so golfers should correct records in the app when necessary.

Club recommendations and performance data

With enough historical information, TAG Heuer Golf could recommend a club and record club-performance information such as distance and accuracy for tracked shots. That is data-informed guidance, not a promise of lower scores or a substitute for launch-monitor measurements.

Driving Range and 3D features

The 45 mm Golf Edition brochure described Driving Range heat maps showing where previous shots landed, plus 3D course visuals and shareable shot or round imagery in the iOS app. These features made the watch more than a simple front-middle-back yardage display, although they remained dependent on compatible app software and recorded data.

How a round worked

TAG Heuer’s first-party material confirms the functions but does not provide one universal, button-by-button menu path for every E4 software version. A representative workflow was:

  1. Pair the watch with a compatible phone and TAG Heuer companion software.
  2. Open TAG Heuer Golf and select the course.
  3. Start the round and view the hole, green distances and hazards on the watch.
  4. Record shots manually or use automatic detection when that software option is available.
  5. Review scores, shot distances, club statistics and round history in the app afterward.

GPS distance is not the same as precision launch-monitor data. Signal acquisition, phone pairing, account access and course-data availability are practical prerequisites rather than optional extras.

Design, sensors and everyday smartwatch use

The titanium cases, ceramic bezels and sapphire crystals gave the E4 a conventional luxury-watch appearance. The 45 mm model’s integrated ball marker and spare strap reinforced the golf focus, while interchangeable straps made it usable away from the course. Heart-rate, compass and barometer sensors supported general health and sports tracking, and Wear OS supplied smartwatch functions beyond golf.

The trade-off was size and endurance. A 45 mm case that is 15.27 mm thick can feel substantial, and even the 42 mm model is 14.20 mm thick. TAG Heuer’s “full day” battery statements include specified sports use; they are not guarantees for every combination of GPS, display, notifications and cellular-free phone connectivity.

Compatibility and software support

TAG Heuer listed E4 compatibility with Android 8.1 through Android 15, excluding Android Go edition, and iOS 15.4 through iOS 18.4. Those are the ranges shown for the E4 product material, not a promise that future phone or app updates will preserve every function.

The U.S. App Store listing shows TAG Heuer Golf version 3.7.1 dated October 8, 2025, along with earlier updates for privacy and played-round history. Continued app maintenance is encouraging, but it does not turn discontinued E4 hardware into a product with indefinite support.

See TAG Heuer’s E5 Golf Edition page for current specifications. A phone that works with the E5 is not automatically guaranteed to support an E4, and the E5 is a successor rather than an identical one-for-one replacement.

Should you buy an E4 now?

It can make sense when

  • You want TAG Heuer design and luxury materials more than maximum battery life.
  • You find a substantially discounted or lightly used unit.
  • You specifically prefer Wear OS-era phone integration.
  • You want golf maps and scoring alongside ordinary health and smartwatch features.

It is a poor fit when

  • You need a current product with the newest GPS and scoring features.
  • You expect multi-day normal use or dislike charging after rounds.
  • You have a smaller wrist and find thick watches uncomfortable.
  • You are paying near the current E5 price for discontinued hardware.
  • Your phone falls outside TAG Heuer’s listed E4 operating-system range.

Used-market checklist

  1. Confirm the 42 mm or 45 mm reference and inspect the case, bezel, crystal, clasp and straps.
  2. Check battery health, charger and all promised accessories.
  3. Pair it with your exact phone and operating-system version before paying.
  4. Open TAG Heuer Golf, search for your home courses and test GPS outdoors.
  5. Test the touchscreen, crown, pushers, sensors and charging contacts.
  6. Ensure the seller can factory-reset the watch and remove the previous account.
  7. Verify warranty status and treat unusually low prices as possible refurbished, incomplete or battery-worn inventory.

Verdict

The E4 Golf Edition was compelling as a luxury golf accessory: it put course information, scoring, shot data and health tracking into a recognizable TAG Heuer watch. Its one-day battery expectation, large cases, app dependence and uncertain long-term support matter more now that TAG Heuer has discontinued it. Buy an E4 only when the condition and discount compensate for those limitations; otherwise, compare the current E5 Golf Edition before spending luxury-watch money.
