Samsung announced on June 25, 2024 that its Hospitality TVs would support Apple AirPlay, beginning with the HBU8000 and expanding to other existing models through software updates. Guests pair an iPhone or iPad by scanning a room-specific QR code, while Samsung says paired-device information is erased at checkout. The announcement made AirPlay a hotel-TV platform capability—not a guarantee that every Samsung television or hotel supports it.
Apple had already announced AirPlay in select IHG Hotels & Resorts properties using compatible LG hotel TVs in April 2024. Both rollouts remain selective: the installed model, firmware, Apple certification, hotel network and participating system integrator determine whether the feature works in a particular room.
What Samsung actually announced
Samsung’s announcement covered commercial Hospitality TVs rather than its ordinary consumer television range. The first named model was the HBU8000. Samsung said other existing Hospitality TV models would gain support sequentially through software updates, but it did not publish a complete list of participating hotel chains or properties.
The announcement is documented in Samsung’s June 25, 2024 release: Samsung enhances hotel stays with Apple AirPlay on Hospitality TVs. A Samsung logo on a hotel-room television therefore does not, by itself, establish that AirPlay is enabled.

How LG’s earlier rollout fits the story
On April 18, 2024, Apple announced AirPlay in select IHG Hotels & Resorts properties using compatible LG hotel TVs. The initial deployment covered more than 60 North American properties and included brands such as Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants, Hotel Indigo, Candlewood Suites and InterContinental Hotels & Resorts.
Apple described a property-specific rollout, not an industry-wide switch. Its announcement is available at AirPlay is now available in select IHG Hotels and Resorts properties. Samsung’s announcement followed that precedent by adding AirPlay to its hospitality-TV platform, but did not announce universal hotel availability.
How guests connect an iPhone or iPad
- Turn on the compatible hotel TV and open the hotel menu or home screen.
- Choose the AirPlay option if it is displayed.
- Scan the unique QR code shown on the TV with the iPhone or iPad camera.
- Follow the on-screen instructions and join the hotel network if prompted.
- Use the AirPlay button in a compatible app, or select Screen Mirroring where the app and device support it.
- Stop playback and disconnect before leaving; the hotel system should also clear the session at checkout.
Samsung says the QR-code workflow avoids installing a separate app or typing a room password and is intended to create a private, room-specific connection. If no QR code appears, AirPlay may not be enabled, the TV may be unsupported, or the property’s casting service may be offline.

The model and operating-system requirements are listed on Samsung’s HBU8000 product page and Apple’s IHG announcement. Older iPhones and iPads may not meet the requirements.
What you can stream
AirPlay can send movies and television shows, music and playlists, photos, presentations, games, fitness sessions, meditation content and other compatible media to the room TV. Apple specifically cited Apple TV+, Apple Music, Apple Fitness+ and Apple Arcade in its hotel deployment.

App-level AirPlay and full-device mirroring are not identical. A streaming service may offer an AirPlay button while blocking screen mirroring because of content-protection rules. A successful QR pairing therefore does not guarantee that every app will play on the hotel screen.
Privacy at checkout—and sensible precautions
Samsung says no personal information is stored or saved and that paired-device information is automatically erased at checkout. Apple says the QR code is unique to the room and that the connection is removed so a later guest or hotel staff cannot access the previous guest’s activity.
Those statements describe the intended cleanup process, not an absolute security guarantee. Stop playback manually, disconnect from AirPlay and avoid displaying sensitive notifications while mirroring. Do not enter streaming passwords into the hotel TV when casting from your own device is available.

Why AirPlay may not work in a Samsung-equipped room
- Unsupported or unconfigured hardware: The room may use a different model, an older firmware version or a consumer TV rather than a Hospitality TV.
- Certification: Samsung’s product documentation says the hotel property and its system integrator must be separately certified by Apple to enable AirPlay.
- Regional and application limits: Samsung warns that support can vary by model, app and geographic area.
- Network setup: An incomplete captive-portal login, hotel Wi-Fi isolation, weak signal or an active VPN can prevent local discovery or interrupt playback.
- App restrictions: The selected service may permit native AirPlay but reject screen mirroring.
- Session expiry: Checkout or an automatic timeout can end the connection.
Samsung’s documentation is at Samsung HBU8000 Hospitality TV. Temporarily disabling a VPN, completing the hotel’s Wi-Fi sign-in and asking the front desk whether the room is AirPlay-enabled are reasonable troubleshooting steps.

Samsung says SmartThings Pro is available on Tizen 7.0 or later, but that statement should not be converted into a blanket claim that basic AirPlay requires Tizen 7.0. AirPlay support depends on the particular model, firmware, certification and deployment.
SmartThings Pro is an operator-facing platform for centrally monitoring and controlling Hospitality TVs, digital signage, air-conditioning and other compatible Matter- and Home Connectivity Alliance devices. It can provide scalable management and customizable APIs. Guests do not need to install or purchase it.

What hotels get beyond guest casting
LYNK Cloud
Samsung describes LYNK Cloud as a cloud-management service for customizable TV content, remote device management, over-the-top entertainment, in-room ordering, digital concierge functions, hotel-service bookings, promotions and business insights. It is primarily useful to properties managing many rooms, not to an individual traveler.
Broader casting choices
Samsung’s 2025 hospitality lineup added Google Cast alongside AirPlay and OTT applications, as described in Samsung’s HITEC 2025 hotel-TV announcement. Supporting both protocols can serve mixed iPhone, iPad and Android audiences more effectively than an Apple-only deployment.
What hotel operators should evaluate
- The exact TV model, firmware and regional feature set.
- Apple certification for the property and system integrator.
- Wi-Fi capacity, captive-portal behavior and client-isolation rules.
- Automatic session expiration and checkout data cleanup.
- Whether both AirPlay and Google Cast are needed.
- Integration with the property-management system, remote monitoring and update tools.
- Requirements for digital signage, room service, concierge features and promotional content.
- Total costs for displays, installation, network upgrades, certification, cloud services, licensing and support.
The HBU8000 is a commercial hotel display sold through Samsung’s business channels; Samsung’s official page does not publish a public retail price. LYNK Cloud and SmartThings Pro likewise have no public plan prices in the cited announcements and should be treated as quote-based enterprise services.
What to do when the room does not offer AirPlay
- Use Google Cast if the hotel provides it.
- Try the property’s own casting portal.
- Connect an HDMI cable or device adapter where hotel policy and the TV’s inputs allow it.
- Download shows, music or presentations for offline playback before traveling.
- Use the phone or tablet directly if network restrictions prevent casting.
- Ask whether another room or a participating property has compatible casting equipment.
Android guests cannot use Apple AirPlay itself. They should look for Google Cast, Samsung Smart View, an HDMI connection or the hotel’s casting system.
The practical answer for travelers
Samsung has made AirPlay available as a Hospitality TV capability, following Apple’s selective LG-based IHG deployment. The feature is most useful because it lets guests play personal content without signing into services on a shared television, but it only works where the hotel has installed, certified and configured the necessary system. Confirm AirPlay support with the specific property rather than relying on the Samsung brand name.
