Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition reached its second market in China as the Samsung W25. The Chinese phone is based on the Korean Special Edition, but it is not a simple rebrand: it has a ceramic rear panel, gold-colored frame, different storage options and a higher 255g weight.
What launched, and when?
Samsung announced the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition for South Korea on October 21, 2024, with Korean sales beginning October 25. China became the second country to receive the device, where Samsung used the W25 name. The launch was covered on November 6, 2024, alongside the Samsung W25 Flip, a separate phone based on the Galaxy Z Flip6.
Samsung’s Korean announcement is available from Samsung Korea. “Second market” means China followed South Korea; it does not mean a second generation of the foldable.
Is the W25 the same phone?
No. The W25 is a China-market counterpart derived from the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition. Both use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy platform, a 200-megapixel main camera, 8-inch inner display, 6.5-inch cover display, 16GB of RAM, 4,400mAh battery and 25W wired charging. The differences matter because portability was a central selling point of the Korean model.

Battery, software and S Pen
The W25 launch specification lists a 4,400mAh battery, 25W wired charging, Android 14 and One UI 6.1.1, plus Bluetooth 5.3, stereo speakers and a side-mounted fingerprint reader. Those are launch-era details, not a statement of the phone’s software version in 2026.
The Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition does not support the S Pen, according to launch coverage. That is a meaningful difference from standard Fold models that support Samsung’s stylus ecosystem.

Pricing and regional availability
South Korea
The Korean launch price was ₩2,789,600. This is the historical price announced for South Korea, not a current international price. Samsung’s release gives the date and specifications at news.samsung.com.
China
Early reporting expected the W25 to start at approximately CNY16,999 (about $2,400 at the time), but the cited November report explicitly said Samsung had not yet announced final Chinese pricing. Treat that figure as an expectation, not a confirmed MSRP. Samsung’s China product and support page is shop-support.samsung.com.cn.
United States and other markets
The cited coverage establishes South Korea and China as the launch markets. It does not identify a U.S. launch or broad global sales channel. That means buyers should not assume the W25 or Korean Special Edition has the same network support, warranty or repair access as a locally sold Galaxy Z Fold.

What to check before importing a W25
- Model and bands: obtain the exact model number and compare its LTE and 5G bands with your carrier. China-market modem bands and carrier certifications can differ by region.
- Warranty and repairs: confirm whether Samsung will honor warranty service in your country and whether authorized repair centers can obtain the correct parts.
- Software region: verify supported languages, update timing, regional features and preinstalled China-specific services.
- Google services: do not assume Google Play or every Google service will operate exactly as on a U.S. model; confirm the seller’s software configuration and return policy.
- Total landed cost: add shipping, taxes, duties, marketplace fees and currency-conversion charges to any advertised Chinese price.
- Accessories and resale: check case, screen-protector and replacement-part compatibility. A rare regional model may be harder to resell or support locally.
Which model makes sense?
Choose the W25 for its China-specific design
The W25 is the choice for buyers who specifically want the ceramic back, gold-accented frame or optional 1TB storage and accept the extra 19g and import complications.
Choose the Korean Special Edition for lower weight
The Korean phone preserves the Special Edition’s 236g portability advantage, but importing it still brings Korean-market warranty, carrier, software and shipping considerations.
Choose a locally sold standard Galaxy Z Fold for simpler ownership
A locally distributed standard Fold from the same generation generally offers an easier path to warranty service, carrier support, accessories and repairs. It may also retain S Pen compatibility, while the Special Edition does not. Current 2026 model names and prices require a separate up-to-date check.

Bottom line
Samsung expanded the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition to China as the Samsung W25, not as a universal global rollout and not as an identical rename. The W25 keeps the core processor, displays, memory and 200MP camera platform, but its ceramic construction and regional styling raise its weight to 255g. For buyers outside Korea or China, the hardware appeal must be weighed against uncertain pricing, carrier compatibility, software-region differences, warranty coverage and import costs.
