The 83%-off headline appears to refer to an older Black Friday promotion. Surfshark’s page instead showed three extra months and a displayed 85% saving on its 24-month Starter and One plans. The current displayed totals were $67.23 for Starter or $75.33 for One, each covering 27 months before any applicable VAT. Check Surfshark’s current pricing and checkout total before buying; prices can vary by currency, tax, plan, billing term, and coupon.
Is the 83%-off Surfshark Black Friday deal real?
Surfshark has run promotions described as 83% off with three additional months, but the available evidence for that exact figure is historical rather than a current official offer. A historical Surfshark community post describes such a campaign; it does not establish that the same terms are available now.
On the official pricing page checked August 16–18, 2026, the displayed 24-month offers were marked 85% off for Starter and One, with three extra months. The percentage is campaign-specific: it depends on Surfshark’s reference price and should not be treated as a measure of what the plan will cost at renewal. Buy based on the checkout total and the service period, not an old headline or discount percentage.
What Surfshark’s displayed offer costs
The figures below are the U.S.-dollar amounts shown on Surfshark’s pricing page during the August 16–18, 2026 check. Each offer covered 24 paid months plus three additional months, with the initial charge paid upfront.

At the displayed offer, it cost $8.10 more upfront than Starter for the same 27-month period. That extra cost buys bundled tools; it does not mean the VPN connection itself is faster or more private.
One+: for buyers who want the additional identity and data-removal services
One+ is the higher-priced tier for people who specifically want its added identity-protection and data-removal services. Its displayed initial total was $121.23 for 27 months. If you only need a VPN, the higher tier is not necessary for the VPN’s encryption.

What the VPN includes—and what it cannot do
Surfshark advertises features including a kill switch, Bypasser split tunneling, CleanWeb ad and malware blocking, obfuscated servers, and apps for major desktop, mobile, and television platforms. It also offers browser extensions and router or manual-configuration options. Its paid plans allow unlimited simultaneous connections; the separate trial is limited to three devices. See Surfshark’s trial and feature information for its current compatibility and feature details.
A VPN can encrypt traffic between your device and the VPN server and conceal your IP address from the websites you visit. It does not make you anonymous, stop you from sharing information with a site, prevent every form of tracking, or protect you from phishing and malicious files you choose to run. Ad blocking and antivirus features do not replace ordinary device security. Streaming access may change by service, country, server, and provider enforcement; no VPN can guarantee access to every streaming, banking, government, gaming, or shopping service. VPNs can also trigger CAPTCHAs or interfere with local-network and location-based apps.

Upfront billing, renewal, and how to avoid a surprise charge
Surfshark offers one-month, 12-month, and 24-month subscription terms. Long-term promotional plans are generally charged upfront, and the introductory price does not establish the renewal price. Subscriptions may renew automatically, so note both the initial total and the renewal date and price shown in your account.
- Before payment, confirm the plan, service period, total due now, tax, and renewal terms on the checkout screen.
- Save the order confirmation or invoice, including the renewal date.
- Check your account’s subscription settings for the next renewal amount and date.
- If you do not want another charge, turn off automatic renewal before the listed renewal date and keep the cancellation confirmation.
If you bought through Apple’s App Store or Google Play, manage cancellation through that store’s subscription controls; purchases through app stores may have different refund procedures from purchases on Surfshark’s website.

Three free months, a free trial, and the money-back guarantee are different
- Three extra months: Promotional service added to the 24-month paid term, making 27 months in total. It is not a cash rebate or a month-to-month deal.
- Seven-day free trial: Available to eligible first-time users on 12- or 24-month plans. It requires payment details, is limited to three devices, and converts to a paid subscription automatically unless canceled. Read the trial terms before starting.
- 30-day money-back guarantee: Surfshark advertises this guarantee for plans. Confirm eligibility and the applicable process before purchase, particularly if buying through an app store or another third party. The guarantee is separate from both the trial and promotional months.
Is Surfshark worth buying?
Surfshark is a reasonable option if the upfront cost works for you, you want a VPN across many devices, and you are willing to keep track of renewal. Starter is the straightforward choice for VPN-only buyers. One can make sense if you expect to use its bundled tools; One+ is best reserved for buyers who specifically value its additional identity and data-removal services. Surfshark describes itself as award-winning and says it has received more than 30 recognition awards, but that is the company’s claim—not proof that it is the best VPN for every person. Surfshark’s deals page presents that claim and its product comparisons.
Consider another provider if you prioritize a different privacy-focused product approach, want a simple alternative to promotional bundles, or would rather pay a premium for another mainstream service. Proton VPN and Mullvad are alternatives to investigate if privacy approach is central to your choice; ExpressVPN is another mainstream option, while CyberGhost VPN is a commercial competitor. This is a use-case shortlist, not a claim that any alternative has a particular current price or outperforms Surfshark in testing.
Quick Recap
- Buy Starter if you want Surfshark’s VPN at the lowest displayed price and accept upfront billing.
- Consider One if you will use its additional security and identity tools.
- Choose One+ only if its specific extra services justify the higher total for you.
- Think twice about any long-term plan if you need only occasional VPN use, require a genuinely free long-term service, dislike auto-renewal, or are buying mainly because of the old 83%-off wording.
