But the launch is already past: U.S. sales began on January 30, 2026, and Samsung later wound down sales after a limited production run. As of August 18, 2026, an old product page is not proof that new retail stock remains available.
What Samsung’s Galaxy Z TriFold actually is
The TriFold is Samsung’s first smartphone with two inward-folding hinges. It uses one flexible interior display, not three separate screens: folded, it works as a phone with a 6.5-inch cover display; fully open, that display becomes a 10-inch tablet-sized workspace. Samsung announced it on December 2, 2025, and began sales in South Korea on December 12, before its U.S. launch.
The two sides fold inward over the main display. Samsung describes a dual-rail symmetrical hinge structure and an Armor Flex Hinge developed for this design. That inward-folding arrangement helps cover the large inner screen when the phone is closed, but it does not make the device immune to impact, debris, pressure or hinge problems. Intermediate positions may be useful for viewing, but the available specifications do not establish that every angle works like a laptop hinge. Samsung’s announcement and its 2026 interim report describe the design.
U.S. price and availability
Samsung launched the unlocked U.S. Galaxy Z TriFold at $2,899 before tax. The U.S. configuration listed in Samsung’s March 2026 MSRP file was 512GB, Crafted Black, model SM-F968UZKAXAA. That price is a historical launch MSRP, not a confirmed current selling price or a promise that stock is still available. Samsung’s U.S. launch announcement gives the launch date and price; the March 2026 U.S. MSRP list identifies the model.

Samsung ended South Korean sales in March and said U.S. sales would continue only while remaining production lasted. Yonhap reported high production costs and limited production as factors in the South Korean sales decision. Bloomberg also reported the U.S. wind-down. Those reports support describing the TriFold as a short-run product, not claiming that every unit disappeared everywhere on the same date. Check Samsung and the seller directly for live inventory; a listing may be used, refurbished, imported or priced above its original MSRP.
Galaxy Z TriFold specifications
The figures below are manufacturer specifications, not independent lab measurements. In particular, battery capacity alone does not establish real-world battery life, and a camera’s megapixel count does not establish image quality.
| Specification | Galaxy Z TriFold |
|---|---|
| Main display | 10.0-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X; 2160 × 1584 |
| Cover display | 6.5-inch; 2520 × 1080 |
| U.S. storage | 512GB |
| Processor | Customized Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform for Galaxy |
| Main camera | 200MP |
| Battery | 5,600mAh |
| Wired charging | 45W; Samsung’s interim report says a 45W charger is included |

| Weight | 309g |
| Software at launch | Android 16 with One UI 8.0 |

Samsung’s product page and interim report provide the display and hardware figures. The slim open measurement describes the device when unfolded; it is 12.9mm thick when folded—the form most relevant to carrying it as a phone.

Why the TriFold costs nearly $3,000
Samsung has not published a component-by-component manufacturing cost, so no precise breakdown is established. The price is consistent with a large flexible OLED panel, two specialized hinges, a complex folding chassis, flagship components, 512GB of storage and the extra assembly and quality-control demands of a low-volume product. Yonhap’s report on the sales decision cited high production costs, but that does not reveal how much any individual component costs to make.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →For context, Samsung’s March 2026 U.S. MSRP list put the Galaxy Z Fold7 between $1,999.99 and $2,419.99, depending on configuration—below the TriFold’s $2,899 launch price. A Fold7 plus a tablet may cost less, but it is not the same setup: the TriFold’s particular proposition is one cellular device that opens into a 10-inch workspace.
What the extra screen can do
Multitasking across a larger canvas
Samsung says the main display can show up to three apps at once, with adjustable app sizes. That can help with combinations such as email and a document, a calendar alongside messages, or web research next to notes. Whether this is genuinely faster than switching apps depends on how well each app adapts to the large screen and its windows.

DeX for desktop-style work
The phone supports Samsung DeX, which provides a desktop-style interface on the device’s display or a compatible external display. That can be useful for supported workflows, but it does not by itself make the TriFold a laptop replacement: app compatibility, window management, file handling, a keyboard and the display connection all matter. Samsung notes that wireless DeX connection to TVs requires supported Android-tablet screen mirroring through Miracast on its product page.
Flagship-class components
The customized Snapdragon 8 Elite processor and 200MP main-camera specification place the TriFold in premium-phone territory on paper. They do not prove that its photos outperform a Galaxy S Ultra, or that its battery lasts a particular number of hours; those claims require comparative testing.

Weight and folded bulk
At 309g and about 12.9mm thick when closed, the TriFold is a heavy, thick phone for daily pocket carry. Its 3.9–4.2mm open profile is striking, but it describes only the unfolded device. The main screen’s larger work area comes with a noticeable portability cost.

Repair exposure
A large flexible screen and two hinges mean more complex hardware than a conventional phone. Samsung offered one eligible inner folding-screen repair for $699.50 for qualifying purchases made on or before July 31, 2026. That was a time-limited offer, not a permanent repair price or a universal quote for all damage. Its published terms are on Samsung’s repair-promotion page; verify current repair availability and pricing before buying, particularly after the offer cutoff.
- Impact, pressure or debris can damage a flexible inner display; keep the folding area clear and follow Samsung’s care instructions.
- An obstruction at a hinge can interfere with closing. Do not force the device shut against resistance.
- Do not assume every app will scale cleanly or that every workflow benefits from three simultaneous windows.
- Do not assume DeX supplies all the peripherals, applications or file-management features your work requires.
Less certainty about long-term ownership
A short sales window makes replacement parts, accessories, resale value and future servicing less predictable. Samsung has not thereby been shown to have ended software support, so it would be inaccurate to say that updates have stopped. The uncertainty is about the ownership ecosystem around a limited-run device, not a confirmed end-of-support date.

Samsung ended sales in South Korea in March 2026, and U.S. sales were described as lasting only until remaining production sold out. Yonhap attributed the decision in South Korea to high production costs and limited production; its report covers that market. Bloomberg’s report described Samsung’s plan to stop selling the phone after roughly three months.

- A premium foldable smartphone featuring an 8.0" Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display, 6.5" cover display, 200MP main camera, Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor, up to 16GB RAM and 1TB storage, 4,400mAh battery, and a slim 215g design.
One reasonable interpretation is that the TriFold also served as a technology showcase: it proved Samsung could ship a double-folding phone, while its cost and production constraints limited its suitability for mainstream sales. That is analysis, not a formal Samsung product classification. A short run alone does not prove that buyers rejected the idea; supply limits, manufacturing costs and an experimental design could all contribute.
Who should consider one—and who should not
It may suit
- Someone who specifically wants a tablet-sized screen in one cellular device and will use it for mobile work or multitasking.
- An early adopter or collector comfortable with first-generation hardware, weight and a less certain support ecosystem.
- A professional who has confirmed that their apps, peripherals and service arrangements fit the device.
It is a poor fit for
- Anyone whose priorities are a light phone, low repair exposure or easy replacement.
- Someone who mainly wants a large screen for video; a conventional phone and tablet offer a more flexible two-device setup.
- Buyers who need guaranteed long-term parts or accessory availability.
- Anyone considering an import without first confirming U.S. carrier compatibility, eSIM requirements, warranty eligibility and repair support.
What to verify before buying a remaining or used unit
Because Samsung’s sales wind-down does not establish current stock or a current market price, treat each listing as a separate purchase decision. Before paying, confirm:
- Whether the unit is new, refurbished or used, and whether the seller’s description matches its condition.
- The exact model and region, plus proof of purchase and warranty eligibility in your country.
- Carrier-band and eSIM compatibility for your network, especially for an imported model.
- Whether Samsung is currently accepting repairs for that model in your region, and the current price and terms for inner-screen or hinge service.
- Return rights, the seller’s warranty, and whether a scarcity premium is justified by the actual condition and support you will receive.
- Whether compatible cases, screen protectors and other accessories are available.
- Whether 309g is acceptable for everyday carry and whether you truly need one device to serve both phone and tablet roles.
Alternatives to the TriFold
| Option | What it offers | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy Z Fold7 | A more conventional foldable at a lower March 2026 U.S. MSRP range of $1,999.99–$2,419.99, depending on configuration. | It does not open to the TriFold’s 10-inch display. |
| Flagship phone plus tablet | Separate devices can be easier to replace, use independently and choose for each task, often for less than the TriFold’s launch price. | You carry two devices rather than one phone that unfolds into a tablet-sized surface. |
| Conventional flagship phone | A simpler, lighter daily-phone choice with mainstream availability and less complicated hardware. | It does not provide a tablet-sized screen in the same device. |
The Fold7 price range is from Samsung’s March 2026 U.S. MSRP list; it is not a current sale-price guarantee.
