Notion has not publicly confirmed a specific Android link-opening bug or published a fixed app version in the sources currently available. Users have nevertheless reported links opening in Chrome, landing on Notion’s home screen, failing to respond, or losing their intended page destination. Those symptoms can come from different paths: Android’s supported-link settings, Notion deep-link handling, account permissions, or an in-app browser problem.
Use the checks below to identify which path is failing before you reset or reinstall the app.
What “opening links” can mean in Notion
Several separate actions are often described as a “Notion link bug.” Test the one that fails on your phone:
- A Notion page link tapped in another app: for example, a URL in Messages, Gmail, or a task manager.
- An external website link tapped inside Notion: this uses Notion’s handling of external web content and the device’s browser.
- A shared Notion URL opened from a browser: Android must decide whether to keep the page in the browser or hand it to Notion.
- An internal link tapped inside a Notion page: a page, block, or mention may open the wrong destination, the workspace home screen, or a browser tab.
Notion’s help documentation describes page mentions, Link to page blocks, block links, web-page mentions, and backlinks. It also documents an Open links in desktop app preference for desktop browsers, but that preference is not evidence of an equivalent Android control (Notion’s link and backlink documentation).

Which symptoms users have reported
Anecdotal reports describe several behaviors, but they do not establish one universal defect affecting every Android user:
- A tap produces no response.
- A Notion URL opens in Chrome instead of the installed app.
- Notion launches but shows the workspace home page rather than the linked page.
- A deep link loses its page or block destination.
- A browser redirect appears before the app handoff, or an “unable to open” or “no app to open” message appears.
- The mobile Link to page picker fails to show the expected page.
Community posts document examples of deep-link failures, home-screen reopening, mobile link insertion problems, and browser-first opening, including reports at r/Notion, r/Notion, r/Notion, and r/Notion. These are user experiences rather than confirmation from Notion.

Has Notion acknowledged the Android glitch?
No official acknowledgment, incident notice, support statement, or release note confirming this particular Android link-opening problem was identified. The available Notion documentation explains normal link features and directs users with persistent access problems to support, but it does not name an Android link regression or give a fixed-version number (Notion troubleshooting guidance).
That means there is currently no verified answer for the affected Notion Android version, Android version range, rollout date, root cause, or release that resolves the behavior. Reports may reflect different problems rather than a single bug.

First check: update and isolate the failure
- Open Google Play, search for Notion, and install any available update.
- Restart the phone, open Notion directly, and confirm that the intended account and workspace are active.
- Test one public Notion page and one private page for which the account already has permission.
- Open the same URL in Chrome or another browser. Note whether the browser reaches the correct page.
- Try a second page from the same workspace. If only one URL fails, it may be malformed, expired, or inaccessible rather than evidence of a general app failure.
Check Android’s supported-link setting
If every Notion URL opens in a browser, Android’s app-link association is a more likely explanation than a Notion page defect. Google’s Android community guidance gives this general route:
- Open Settings.
- Tap Apps.
- Choose Default apps.
- Open Opening links.
- Select Notion.
- Enable Open supported links, or the equivalent Always open option.
- Tap a Notion URL again.
Samsung, Pixel, OnePlus, Xiaomi, and other Android versions can rename or relocate these menus. If the control is missing or behavior does not change, Android’s guidance also discusses resetting app preferences; record your current defaults first (Google Android community guidance).

Use the symptom to narrow the cause

If login or redirects are involved
Update Chrome and Android System WebView from Google Play, restart the phone, and test again. A third-party report recommends a WebView update for some Notion-related login or embedded-web-content failures, but it does not prove WebView causes or fixes this specific link-opening problem (reported WebView workaround).
Do not treat a successful browser opening as proof that the Notion app is healthy: the browser may be signed into a different account, while a private page still requires the correct workspace permission.

Safe temporary workarounds
- Copy the URL and open it directly in Chrome.
- Open Notion first, then use its search to locate the page.
- Use Notion in the browser temporarily if the page works there.
- Create a fresh share link when an older link alone fails.
- Test a page-level link instead of a block-level link to see whether the destination format matters.
These are workarounds, not guaranteed fixes for every Android or Notion version.
Clear cache before considering a reset
Android’s Clear cache option can remove temporary files without the wider consequences of clearing storage. Avoid clearing Notion storage or uninstalling immediately if pages or edits may not have synchronized: those actions can remove the local session and offline data. Sign out and back in only after confirming that credentials are available and important changes are synced.
What to send Notion support
Notion’s support guidance recommends comparing app and browser behavior and contacting support when the problem persists. Include:
- Phone manufacturer and model.
- Android version and Notion app version.
- Whether the URL is public or private.
- Whether it is a standard page URL, shared link, or deep link containing a page or block destination.
- The app from which you tapped it and whether Notion was already open.
- Whether the URL works in Chrome.
- Whether every link fails or only one workspace or page.
- Exact error text, a screenshot, and preferably a short screen recording.
Until Notion publishes an affected-version range or a release note naming a fix, these details are the best way to separate an Android routing problem from a Notion deep-link or account-access defect.
