Base44 vs Lovable: Key Differences, Features, and Use Cases for 2026

Base44 offers a managed path from prompt to hosted app; Lovable offers generated code, GitHub sync, and external services. Here is how to choose between them.

Base44 is positioned for the shortest path from a plain-language prompt to a hosted application. Lovable is positioned for builders who want generated code they can read, sync to GitHub, and connect to outside services such as Supabase. The better choice depends on how much setup you are willing to manage now and how much control over code and infrastructure you will need once the first version works.

Both platforms are described here as their own vendors describe them. The feature claims come from the vendors’ comparison pages, not from independent performance testing, and current plan prices are not confirmed in this article (see the pricing section below).

How each platform starts

Both tools create an application from natural-language instructions and let you refine it through follow-up prompts. Base44 and Lovable each publish a comparison page that describes this conversational workflow, so the starting experience is similar on paper. The differences appear after the first version runs: where the app lives, who manages its backend, and whether you can take the code somewhere else.

  • Base44 presents itself as a managed environment in which the app, its hosting, and its supporting services are provided together.
  • Lovable presents itself as a generator of real application code, with GitHub synchronization and external service connections built into the workflow.

Setup, hosting, and backend

Lovable’s comparison page describes Base44 as a managed package that includes backend, hosting, authentication, database, and analytics. The practical benefit is that you do not need to assemble these pieces yourself before the app can run. The trade-off is that the backend and data sit inside Base44’s environment, so the platform becomes a dependency for the life of the product.

Lovable’s approach shifts more decisions to you. Its comparison page describes a Supabase integration and other external services as part of the workflow. You gain more say over where data is stored and which services power the app, but you also take on the configuration work that a managed package would otherwise handle. Choosing this route makes sense when you are comfortable creating and maintaining accounts with those services.

Code access and developer handoff

This is where the two products diverge most clearly. Lovable’s comparison describes generated React and TypeScript code and synchronization with GitHub. For a project that a developer will extend, review, or host elsewhere, that workflow lets the code live in a repository you control.

Base44’s comparison says the frontend can be exported, while the managed backend components remain on Base44. A developer can therefore take over the user interface, but the backend that stores data and handles logic is not simply carried away with it. Before committing, decide whether you need a full move of the application or only a handoff of the interface. Treat that as a question to confirm against each vendor’s current documentation, because export behavior is the kind of detail that changes between releases.

Integrations

Base44’s materials present platform capabilities as bundled and simplified, which suits projects that do not need a specific third-party service. Lovable’s materials frame integrations with external services as a flexibility path, which matters if you already use a particular database, authentication provider, or API and need deeper access to its features.

Do not assume support for a particular provider from either comparison page. Check the exact integration you need in the platform’s current documentation and run a small test of it before you build around it.

Pricing: what is and is not confirmed

Plan prices, credit allowances, rollover rules, and usage limits change, and they were not readable from the official pricing pages when this article was prepared. The Base44 pricing page and the Lovable pricing page are the authoritative sources. The comparison articles also contain pricing copy, but Base44’s is dated and Lovable’s comparison explicitly dates its pricing details to March 2026, so neither should be used as a current figure.

When you compare costs, hold the workload constant: the same number of projects, the same expected build and revision volume, the same billing period, and the same plan for an app that stays live. Note how credits are consumed and whether unused allowances carry over. A headline monthly price can look very different once live-app usage is included.

Which one fits your project

Choose Base44 when speed to a working app matters most

Base44 suits a validation prototype, an internal tool, or an early product where you want to avoid configuring a backend and hosting before you know whether the idea works. It is a reasonable choice when you have no developer on the team and do not expect to rebuild the backend later. Accept that the backend and data remain tied to the platform, and plan an exit path before you put real customer data in it.

Choose Lovable when code and external services will matter

Lovable fits a prototype you expect to grow, a project that a developer will maintain, or a team that wants code in GitHub from the start. It also suits builders who already use Supabase or another external service and want that service to remain part of the architecture. Expect more setup work up front, and be prepared to manage those accounts and their configuration yourself.

If you are still undecided, test your real workflow

  1. Write the same small feature brief for both platforms, including one login flow and one data table. This shows how each handles your actual requirements, not a demo.
  2. Check where the backend and data live in each result, and note what you would have to configure yourself.
  3. For the integration you expect to use, confirm support in the current documentation and make one working connection.
  4. Open each official pricing page and estimate cost for the same workload, billing period, and live-app usage.

Checklist before you choose

  • Expected app complexity: a single-screen tool, a multi-user product, or something in between
  • Required integrations, and whether each is documented by the platform you pick
  • Comfort managing external accounts such as a database or authentication provider
  • Likelihood of needing code access, a developer handoff, or a move to another host
  • Who owns the data, and how you would export or migrate it if you leave
  • Current plan terms confirmed directly on the official pricing page
